Don’t ask me where they got those plants from girl I don know.
OOUGH they make me sickKKKK OOOUUUGHHHH
"Bloodymary is fucking peak!!" I scream at the enraged mob, hollering at me to die.
"He's right!" A voice echoes from the back of the crowd.
I raise my head- Markiplier from YouTube is smiling at me.
I think having the main theme of your movie being that bravery does not nessicarily mean willingness to subject yourself to pain and fear but rather rising to the challenge once you’re already in that situation is such an important message given our circumstances right now
just finised my now fourth viewing of Iron Lung. GOD this movie is so good. Watching it with captions on helped a lot too, I got a lot more out of the scenes with multiple voices speaking at once. I just adore how much detail was put in. Mark knew we were all going to be feral and made sure we were well fed😭
Ellie constantly being so conflicted and contradicting herself every few sentences is sooo important to me… it says so much about the nature of consciousness in the blood ocean/as the monster.
Every drop of backstory regarding Eden or the COI is so good, the religious imagery, the final sequence, all of it is just soooo dang good, I adore Iron Lung so muchhhh
the best part of field trip experiments is a chance to become THE experiment yourself ;)
Words that I see used incorrectly in fanfic a lot
Disclaimer: language is always changing. Words are made up. You can do whatever you want forever. HOWEVER if you want to write in a way that ensures others will be able to easily understand you, it might be helpful to know the following.
Disassociate: an intentional choice to stop associating with someone or something, often an organization or a cause. "He disassociated from the company after the scandal." Dissociate: a psychological defence mechanism involving mental/emotional disconnection from oneself or reality. "After he quit his job, he sat down on the couch and dissociated for thirteen and a half hours."
Addicting: a verb. "Cocaine addicts people to itself. It is addicting those people." It's a very unusual verb, as you can see. If you find yourself about to use this word in your writing (especially in porn, where I see it SO much), you probably shouldn't. If you could say "causing to develop an addiction" or something like that, then phrase it that way instead. If you say "[Sex thing] was so addicting" that's a little like saying it was so "running." You can totally say that, but it does feel odd... Addictive: an adjective! It describes nouns! "[Sex thing] was so addictive." Nice.👍
Affect: usually a verb. "She was affected by the sad movie. Movies often affect people's emotions." In psychology, it can also act as noun, referring to a person's general emotional presentation. "Her affect was muted." Effect: a noun. This is the stuff you experience. "The effects of the movie were long-lasting." Affectation: also a noun. A way of behaving that's different from your normal way of behaving, usually intentional and meant to impress or fool others. "She put on the affectation of a movie critic when she wrote her review online."
Allude: to indirectly reference something. "He alluded to past criminal activity." Elude: to evade. "He eluded the police."
Compliment: a nice thing to say to someone. "I complimented her new shoes." Complement: a way to say that something that goes well with something else. "Her new shoes complemented her dress." You might recognize it from "complementary colours." Can also refer to free stuff, as in the "complementary coffee" you get at events (the coffee complements the event).
Elicit: a verb. To bring out something, like a reaction. "He elicited the jury's sympathy by telling a sad story." Illicit: an adjective. Judged to be illegal or immoral, as in "illicit drugs" or "illicit affair." "The judge found him in contempt of court for illicit use of emotionally manipulative story-telling."
Conscience: a noun. This is the thing that (purportedly) tells you right from wrong. "His conscience told him he needed to apologize." Conscious: an adjective. This refers to someone or something that is aware of something and/or capable of thinking. "He was conscious of an urge to apologize."
Taught: a verb. Past-tense of teach. "They taught a course on knot-tying." Taut: an adjective. Describes tightness or tenseness, often of something which can be relaxed. "The students pulled their ropes taut to tighten their knots."
Lathe: a noun. This is a machine that carves wood or metal. "The lathe operators wore gloves to protect their hands from the dangerous machine." Lave: a verb meaning to wash or bathe. This is what tongues do. "I laved at my wound (which I got from the aforementioned lathe because I am committing to this bit now)." Lather: a noun or a verb describing bubbles, especially when referring to soap. "I rubbed my soapy hands together to form a lather so I could clean my now horribly infected lathe wound."
Consolidation: the noun form of consolidate, which means to combine. "The two kingdoms consolidated their armies." Consolation: the noun form of console, which means to comfort someone. Might recognize it from the term "consolation prize" – a prize you get when you lose or fail at something. "It was a small consolation that the war would be over soon."
Lose: the verb form of the word loss. "Don't lose your brand new horse, Julia!" Loose: an adjective meaning not tight or contained. "Predictably, Julia's new horse was now loose in the streets of the city."
Ensuring: to make certain of something or to guarantee something. "He handed her the knife, ensuring that the handle was presented first." Ensuing: to take place afterwards or as a result of something else. "The ensuing knife fight was a bloody duel to the death."
Whose: this is the possessive form. "Whose car is that?" Who's: this is the contraction form of "who is/was/has" "Who's driving that car?" Whom: this is the object form of the pronoun "who." It functions like the pronouns him, her, them, me, and us. If your sentence could be restructured to use any of those, then "whom" is correct. Compare "Whom should I blame for the crash?" ("I should blame him.") and "I wondered who had crashed the car." ("He had crashed the car.")
Those are the common mistakes I've noticed. Feel free to suggest more if you've noticed other commonly mixed up words!
I could never find the right way to tell you, have you noticed I've been gone?
ok so, I approached my local library with a proposal to donate a mural as a way to A: build portfolio/gain practical experience and B: give back to a beloved public institution. The director was very enthusiastic about it and i've been working on it since the beginning of March. Come with me as I endeavor to paint what is in all honesty an excessive amount of birds
I wanted the birds to look like they were actually in the space so first thing after doing the draft was to do a lighting study
after that I covered the walls in letters in lieu of a projector/vr headset bc i have neither of those :) Then i take a picture of the section of wall and superimpose the lineart over top of it so I can pencil in the lines
et voila
and that was a whole week on it's own so next comes the paintin' >:)
and now, the birds
Birds 1 and 2/14: Red Winged Blackbird, Male and female, Agelaius phoeniceus
Bird 3/14, American Robin, Turdus migratorius
hoo boy, ok *out of breath*
GIVE IT UP FOR BIRD NUMBUH 5, THE CANADIAN GOOSE, Branta canadensis!!!!
this guy took me about 4 days to completely finish, all of those freakingk coverts were a bear to render
speaking of obnoxious coverts:
bird 5/14, Bluejay, Cyanocitta cristata
the friggin stripes almost got me chat, i may not make it
Madam....
birds 6 and 7: American Goldfinch, Spinus tristis, male and female
pleasantly simple to paint! next is the flickerrrrr
*melts into goo*
BIRD NUMBER 8, (yellow shafted) NORTHERN FLICKERRRRR, Colaptes auratus
genuinely made me start questioning my sanity around day 3, it's half the size the of the goose, WHY did it take me 4 days to finish??
nothing but pain and suffering, i'm sure hope the next bird will be much easier and with FAR less barring :)
in other news, I am losing my mind hairline
SHE'S DONE!!
Bird number 9: Red-tailed hawk, Buteo jamaicensis
my chains are broken i am FREE. although i did have a great deal of fun with this, the barring on the wings itself took me like four days and i am READY to move on
this was a week and a half of continuous work so please excuse me for getting a little emotional in the bg 🙏
*does a little jig*
BIRD NUMBER 10!!! The Male Mallard Duck, Anas platyrhynchos
the male and female ones are gonna be posted separately bc they're taking a lot longer lol but yea! super happy i was able to capture the iridescent green of the head, i found metallic green and blue paint at a craft store that really made his head POP. it looks better in person i promise
ALSO!! As this is the 10th one, BIG announcement. The end is in sight!!!!! I plan to finish within the next 3 weeks and there will be a small dedication ceremony/ unveiling happening at the library to commemorate its completion on the 16th of May. If you live in the Western New York region and want to check it out for yourself shoot me a dm!
Also thank you everyone for your kind words and support throughout this whole process, it's been a genuine treat thinking there are potentially thousands of you out there cheering me on while I paint this 🥹
aaaand another one bites the duck,
we're movin right along with bird numero 11!! The lady Mallard!! Anas platyrhyncos
the 16th is looming in the distance so i'm trying to get thru these as quickly as i can so i can have as much time for the GBH as possible. i still need to do the names next to all of them so i've got about a week and a half to finish everything which is GREAT because i have adhd and nothing gets my ass in gear like a fuckin deadline, let me tell you
power couple that they are, here's bird number 12 and 13,
the Northern Cardinals, Cardinalis cardinalis
and NOW that they are complete, ITS GO TIME, in the next five days (library's closed for mother's day 😭😭) i need to have the GBH fully rendered, the names of the birds vectored, weeded, masked, applied to the wall, and then painted, plus additional cattails throughout. I may be able to get away with just getting the GBH done in time for the unveiling and then just have the names and cattails added later, but i'm gonna really try to get it all done in time. BUT, i have a plan. Part of why i take so long on these is because i really am just figuring it out as I do it lmao. there have been many a time where i am sitting on top of the ladder googling "how to paint birds" but I think if i take the time tomorro to do all that figuring out how to approach it beforehand, this will go a lot faster. I may also recruit some of my artist friends to help with the placing of the names... hrmm we'll see.
Anyways, shout out to the librarian who tracked down exactly the thing i needed so i could figure out where to place the highlights in my birds eyes, ur the real mvp
thanks for the reminder, kid
at long last, we've reached the end...
Bird number 14 out of 14,
The Great blue heron, Ardea herodius
thank you to everyone who reached out or got excited about this project, it genuinely gave me the fuel i needed to keep going. In total, the 480+ total hrs it took me to cover this wall pales in comparison to how long its expected to spend on there, hopefully imparting a sense of beauty and love for the natural world to the next generation and here's hoping i'm only getting started with these.
i'll see y'all soon :')
I feel like early in their friendship Rocky would be curious about Grace’s glasses (ft. Grace’s inability to wear them correctly)
I think having the main theme of your movie being that bravery does not nessicarily mean willingness to subject yourself to pain and fear but rather rising to the challenge once you’re already in that situation is such an important message given our circumstances right now
we got a full redbox and now we're playing go fish with the redbox movies
I would never pay money for a redbox. if you ask politely and are very very persistent (i.e. annoying) they will let you take it away
here's my dad and i taking it away
a redbox makes a wonderful addition to your patio
for those wondering why they're free to take now, it's because the company that made those "chicken soup for the soul" books bought them a few years ago and then completely collapsed so bad they couldn't afford to dispose of or even take the blu rays and dvds out of their kiosks all over.
so any of them is free game because they're all located on other business' property and they usually don't want to have to pay to get rid of them either. so asking the store manager usually gets you the ok to pull it out and keep it.
there was a period of time right after their bankruptcy where you could put in any debit or credit card and it would spit out movies without charging you. you could even put in like an expired or deactivated card, or a visa gift card with a $0 balance, didnt matter, they'd just start spitting discs out. a lotta people raided redboxes for movies for a couple months, with some people doing what me and my brother and my dad did here, taking the whole box and signs and marquees as well. because managers sure as hell don't want a big abandoned piece of trash on their sidewalk disappointing customers. BUT they're also often too cheap to pay someone to remove it. so they just sit there.
luckily there are no shortage of freaks like us who will just take them away on our own volition. we did it all "by the book", too: we set up cones and caution tape, disconnected electricity properly, used an angle grinder to grind down the bolts in the concrete so nobody would trip on them, then cleaned everything up afterward and sealed off the electrical panel so the store would know everything is safe and tidy. though they were hesitant when we were first contacting them, they were honestly very relieved and grateful when we finally took it away, especially once they saw that we "knew what we were doing" (we don't) and look like we've "done this before" (we haven't).
the fun part: the reason why this redbox, in particular, was completely full and unraided is because the computer hardware inside had failed some months before the bankruptcy, and a failing company sure as hell wasn't gonna send a tech out to our podunk dipshit city to fix it, so it was impossible to rent movies or take any discs out. plus, for who knows how long, people were returning old redbox discs to this machine and not taking any out, leading to a much higher variety of movies than your average redbox.
there is a thriving community of redbox hackers and modders out there, as well, creating open-source software for repurposing the machines and not letting their very interesting and robust disc-management hardware go to waste. this one belongs to my brother (who was very annoying persistent and did all the legwork of contacting managers and securing permission) who is a programmer by trade and will be hacking it into a family-access movie library, with whatever discs we want. i mean the machine is completely weatherproof and has a built-in AC unit, it would be such a waste to not try to turn it into something cool.
if we get another one, i'm gonna try to mod it into some sort of art or zine vending machine. the disc boxes are just the right size for small print art or stickers. would make a great "little free library" too.
remember: the rules are made up. act like you belong there and you can get away with anything. this applies to your own life
As someone who has seen both movies, (iron lung three times) here's a few things i see ppl get wrong/ misunderstand:
Simon is missing his left arm, up to the shoulder. Like at the bicep.
Simon is not just a eel, he's fused with the seed and explodes into a tree.
The seed was on the left arm, fused, reversed Pinocchioed him, and got ripped off.
He kills Elli by exploding into a fucking tree.
He met God.
God gave him prophetic visions and fucked him up. Promised Simon would live, and like a Genie, didn't specify how.
Also some time manipulation bullshit was happening.
Homeboy is played by Mark(iplire), who is Korean. (Draw him Korean you cowards /j)
Simon would not necessarily be impressed/ emotinal from looking at stars. In a flashback he's seen stars before, but knows they're ghost light. He would be grateful being able to see them again though.
He WOULD be very emotinal about any plant life. He found a new will to live when he found the little seed. He had a breakdown when the little charm cracked.
His "job" on Eden was to nourish the last tree with the people he killed. Hence his nickname.
There's a lot symbolism regarding trees (the hull window crack)
Simon is resourceful and smart! Like smart smart! Let him be smart woth Rocky and Grace!
Yes, Simon can be aggressive, but is only in situation where his life is threatened. He's also remorseful. He's apologetic and does want to make up for his wrongs, even if it wasn't his fault.
His left eye glows :3
Grace is not a coward.
Like Simon, Grace did not go down without a fight. He ran, yes, but when he was being sedated he shouted how he would sabotage the mission. Do everything he can to make it fail, just so the wouldn't risk putting him on the exhibition.
He is incredibly brave. He did a space walk without training. He trusted rocky that he wouldn't explode in the space bridge. He CLIMBED ON THE BURNING EXTERIOR OF THE HAIL MARY TO RETRIEVE THE COLLECTION DEVICE.
Grace is not a crybaby. He crys for very real, reasonable reasons! When he was betrayed? When they found a solution to save their stars? When Rock gave him a way to return to Earth? It would be weird for him NOT to cry! (Edit: person in the tags you're so right)
He would be scared meeting Simon, but he would not be a coward.
They BOTH have a "This is bigger than me" mentality. They both risked everything to ensure the survival of humanity. They were willing to die.
It's not selfish just wanting to live.
I don't think either of them would have a problem doing anything to survive. (Eating the Taumoeba or Me-burgers)
How it works in my head
Finally. Some good fucking food.
"I asked chatgpt" okay well I asked Tumblr and- wait, one second- there's some new yaoi lore in the space fandom or something- oh my god is that Markiplier?
"I asked chatgpt" yeah well I asked ryland grace. And he's. Actually kinda busy rn- I think he's making out with Markiplier.... But then I asked Rocky and he thinks you're lame as hell for not using your own noggin!

Btw. If you're a teacher and you catch one of your students (kids, tweens, teens) using AI for the first time, please be gentle with them.
Last week i was looking into one of my teen's homework when I noticed she was writing words she "wasn't supposed to know" in english (like "furthermore", for example. They only know very intermediary english) I got a bit mad for a second. I wear an "anti-AI" button all the time, i even told them before why i was anti-AI, yet she didn't listen to me and thought she could get away with it... But i decided to keep it cool because i didn't know why she would do this, since she never did.
Okay, one week after, this Wednesday, it was time for their class again and, when she arrived, i told her to come to my desk and asked her: "what is furthermore?" She went pale when she noticed the paper in my hands. I asked again: "darling, what is furthermore?" Then, she shuttered: "I don't know, teacher. I'm sorry, I had to ask Gemini because I had no time..." then I sat her down, she was clearly upset (she is just 13) and I asked her what happened. "I didn't have any time left because of my exams and there were too many units to go through. So I asked my mom to help me and she told me to use ChatGPT but I asked google instead." Okay. So I looked into her eyes and told her it was okay, that she didn't need to be upset, but she would have to re-do that paper and bring it back to me by the next week. I told her she didn't need google or gpt to do her work, because she got a very high score at her english exam (both at school and at the course). She got right back on her feet and we started class as normal.
The only reason why I'm telling you this is because I hate AI. I hate it SO much. But, as a teacher now, I hate ANYTHING that takes the learning process away from kids. I hate the GLOSSARY in my kids' books as well for the same reason bc they don't want to figure the words out with me, they want to check the answer as fast as they can to get rid of that boring thing and I don't blame them for wanting to get rid of the boring task! But I blame ADULTS for allowing the kids to go the fast way, when they need the slow process to learn something! Her MOM told her to use ChatGPT to ace her homework. You know, the person PAYING the course bills so her daughter can learn english at an early age doesn't care about her learning process. But I do. I care. And you should care too. It's not my student's fault, it's about the learned helplessness, it's about wanting to be the fastest, it's about the knowledge scrapping, the way nobody cares anymore. And the kids are being affected by parents who don't care anymore. They're byproducts of this. So please, when teaching them why AI is bad, be gentle. It's not their fault the world around them is teaching them how to be dumb in a smart, sneaky way.
You send people to space to save the literal entire world and you still don't trust them to dispense their own drugs
There'll be statues of him all over the place.
Statues of Grace with his new familly and his students
