so someone once called my old english teacher immature (because at this point he was spinning around on a wheely chair) and he said:
âYeah, but the truth is we never really grow up. We just masquerade as adults because thatâs what weâre expected to do.â
and to this day that is the single most profound thing i have ever heard uttered by someone dicking around on a swivel chair

How to other eye
ALRIGHT, so, I know a lot of people have trouble making eyes match. Yesterday I found out a way to make it significantly easier! Hereâs a small guide.
Well, first of all, you have your face. mark where the eyes should be on it.
Then mark the corners of the eyes and go over the middle again, to make the next step easier
Alright, I know it sounds a bit crazy, but draw this shape, trying to make it as symmetrical as you can.
Draw the eyes using that shape as a guide and TA-DA! They match! For different eye shapes you tweak the angle of the two guide lines.
And it also helps with angles where the size and shape of the eye is distorted, you just put it in perspective.
I think the theory behind it is that the thing that makes it hard to make the eyes match is the angle of the corners, and this type of guideline helps make them even, which makes the eyes look symmetrical. Welp, here it is! I hope it helps someone!
reblog to save a life
im not going to add it onto the post because itâs too long already (sorry sheepdoge) but i think when you look at floweyâs perception of being in a game as his way of processing trauma, then his further inability to understand friskâs kindness towards him and his reaction of running away becomes more relevant to us, as people playing games, as well.
because like, isnât that kind of the same way a lot of us reacted upon first playing the game when it threw us a curveball? we went into it expecting things to go a certain way, conditioned by years of video games that followed the same typical formula; self contained, existing in a vacuum, ultimately completely outside of ourselves as individual people even if they did relate to us on personal levels.
but undertale is very good at being very close with its players, and making us uncomfortable in the process. are we, as individuals, obligated to help strangers at any range of cost simply because we are capable of doing so? is it valid for us to judge people based on first impressions? and then undertale takes these questions, throwing them in our face: hereâs a literal child dying over and over to free a race of people, simply because theyre the only one who can! hereâs these people who are trying to kill you, but if you go back and talk to them later youâre realize they have their âreasonsâ and have their own problems.
flowey has learned to accept a world where kindness is meaningless, worthless, and a weakness; has learned to reject it, has learned the value of presenting it to manipulate others; has come to expect the world around him to operate in a certain way based on these assumptions.
we have learned that video games will not literally talk to us on an individual level, that they have some variability but no real value in terms of culbability; that characters who present themselves as tropes will fill those roles.
and upon first being confronted with something outside of these expectations, persistintely and without apology, we justâŚcanât understand
Flowey meta like this makes me go nuts because while itâs cool making video game mechanics a literal part of the world building in undertale (like item inventory being a form of magic) THIS is the Flowey I wish more people would see. A lot of people chalk up all of Asrielâs issues to him being soulless and see giving him a soul as a viable solution to him not being able to function like a decent, empathetic person, but while depth of character and acknowledgement of the real harsh effects your actions have is afforded to other characters, no one really looks at Flowey and goes âmaybe heâs not fucked up because he realizing he has no soul to feel with and that his reality is a simulated lie broke him but instead heâs fucked up because who WOULDNâT get fucked up over eating your friendâs soul, becoming your fursona, dying, and coming back as a Flower?â I think about how Flowey is a foil of not only destructive potential and motive (going on the nm route just to see what happens) and capacity for atonement (Frisk going the tp route, Asriel breaking the barrier and Flowey making a plea to let Frisk live their life) but ALSO in just not know what the fuck any of this bs means and trying to make sense of it by processing it in a way that can make sense and offer some form of comfort and doesnât that make sense for someone whose been severely traumatized several times over?
itâs really so fuckin wild but entire portionâs of floweyâs personality can be interpreted incredibly different if you take the time to understand him as a person, instead of a character. (a person whoâs experienced trauma and heartbreak trying to come to terms with it in an incredibly unhealthy manner, instead of an entity meant to fill a narrative role), and thatâs so totally ironic to me that i canât believe i didnât realize that before now
#THIS YES #i mean sure video game mechanics or whatever #do what you want #but floweyâs whole worldview is such a big part of undertale that gets ignored often!! #hell even i forget about it #there are certainly parallels and foils and metaphors to be had #but itâs a bit deeper than that (or maybe not that deep) too
right now my favorite activity is creating a very sonorant conlang, where sentences such as kasa o bao pauo kasa so lio fao and awadi so raisai moihui? are real things...
... and having it be spoken by a rather violent culture that is basically a military dictatorship, where all non-second-class citizens are required to be part of a standing on-call army/militia, and coming-of-age ceremonies involve potential murder.
but they sound really fluffy while theyâre talking about these terrible things.
you can make nearly any object into a good insult if you put âyou absoluteâ in front of it
example: you absolute coat hanger
as well u can just add âedâ to any object and itâs sounds like you were really drunk
example: i was absolutely coat hangered last night
#i was gazeboed mate #i was absolutely baubled
Meanwhile, âutterâ works for the first (e.g., âyou utter floorboardâ) but somehow âutterlyâ doesnât seem to work as well for the second (âI was utterly floorboardedâ).
Utterly doesnât work for drunk because itâs the affix for turning random objects into terms for *shocked*, obviously.
⌠huh.  I thought that might just be the similarity to âflooredâ, and yet âI was utterly coat hangeredâ does seem to convey something similar.
I have to tell you, I am utterly sandwiched at this discovery.
Completely makes the phrase mean âsuper tiredâ.
âGod, itâs been a long week, I am completely coat-hangered.â
Something is
Something is wrong with our language
Is it a glitch or a feature?
Feature
I think this means youâve been utterly linguisted.
in other news I woke up at 7 this morning and immediately went to a coffee shop because apparently I donât remember how to make breakfast in my apartment
When you find out that you are now capable of churning out a fairly-complete basic grammar for a conlang in only about 8 hours with some help from rando wordgen and your old ling typology textbooks, thatâs when you know youâve hit some kind of achievement
Part of the New Internet Grammar: using question marks not to denote questions, but upturns in voice, so that a tentative statement gets a question mark but a flatly delivered question doesnât.
why would you do this
It just seems right?
Shit can be traced back to the Old English verb scitan (which meant exactly what it does today), and further back to Proto-Germanic skit (the Germans still say scheisse), and all the way back to the Proto-Indo-European word (c. 4000 BC) skhei, which meant to separate or divide, presumably on the basis that you separated yourself from your faeces. Shed (as in shed your skin) comes from the same root, and so does schism. An odd little aspect of this etymology is that when Proto-Indo-European arrived in the Italian peninsula they used skhei to mean separate or distinguish. If you could tell two things apart then you knew them, and so the Latin word for know became scire. From that you got the Latin word scientia, which meant knowledge, and from that we got the word science This means that science is, etymologically, shit. It also means that knowing your shit, etymologically, means that youâre good at physics and chemistry.
