Kurt looked up from the magazine he sat thumbing through on the edge of the stage one leg crossed over another so that his foot could lightly swing back and forth to a melody in his head as he tried to pass some time away until the others showed up for practice.  The auditorium was too quiet being occupied by only him and Mr. Schue.  His wide eyed stare showed his surprise but he scrambled to his feet letting his reading material fall to the floor.  “I never thought you’d ask.  Are you being serious?  Cause I might end up pushing the boundaries on your whole panache for songs that can be found in 8-Track format being our Go-To…if you know what I mean?”  Was there a way to put that delicately?  Probably not.  Maybe a cute crumpled up wince?  Yeah that, so he went with one trying to make that bitter pill of truth easier to swallow.

The sheer excitement the boy was showing was enough to make Will smile, though it turned into a confused frown at the 8-tracks comment. He nodded and paused before replying, clearly Kurt wasn’t trying to be rude, so it wasn't difficult to move past it. “Right. Yes I’m serious, I’m going to choose to ignore the rest of what you said, but go ahead and push the boundaries to your heart’s content,” he laughed, leaning on the front of the stage. “Since all of you want more input, I figured why not dedicate a week to each person’s choices? It would help expand our options for competitions, and I want glee club to be a place where everyone’s opinions are heard and validated. If that means me not rapping to classics for a couple of weeks then so be it.”

“Yeah! We could always use more talent. I’ve not really seen you around here, are you new? I’m Mr Schuester, I teach Spanish as well as coaching the glee club.”

Rachel took a deep breath and smiled. “Mister Schuester,” She started. 

“I believe that it is counter productive to give the female solo in The Rain In Spain to Mercedes. My Fair Lady is one of my all time favorite musicals, and I firmly stand by the fact that I was born to play the role of Eliza Dolittle.”

The teacher blinked a few times, having prepared himself for this. Nodding slowly, he exhaled. “Rachel, I know that you’d  make an excellent Eliza. But this isn’t a production of My Fair Lady, it’s one song, and Mercedes sounds great singing it. I promise next time we do anything from that musical, you will get the lead.”
