It just really gets to me that 10 year old Mob walked into Reigen’s office looking for anyone who could give him advice about his powers that are scaring him. And Reigen looked at him and went “This baby child is absolutely delusional, but he looks like he needs someone to say something important to him right now.” And Reigen spun up some bullshit on the spot that became the guiding compass of Mob’s life.
And it’s very important to clarify that Reigen did not -accidentally- give Mob good advice. Because one of Reigen’s most distinct traits is his ability to come up with genuine advice and tell people what they need to be told. But he’ll do this on the spot. He’ll do it wrapped in bullshit. He’ll camp it alongside some conman string. He’ll go along with anything. He’ll pretend anything is true. The grift is, in fact, integral of it.
And I love this dichotomy in him because he’s so precariously set up at all moments to topple. For anyone to call him on his bullshit and use that to dismantle everything he’s said. He was lying. He was scamming you. He was using you.
And yes, he was. But it wasn’t really for service of the con. It was for service of the customer, who needed to hear something important.
A terrified 10 year old walked in because his powers had just hurt his little brother and he was feeling so alone in the world and so dangerous and so scared. And Reigen saved him the way Reigen does best.
there's a lot of talk about reading comprehension and one thing i think is the biggest barrier to people on this site getting better at it is simply... rushing. rushing to share something you haven't understood, rushing to have an opinion without taking the time to think about it, rushing to declare that you don't understand something
take these tags, on somebody else's post (condolences pip)
the thing is. this is what i would call an inside thought. nobody would have known you didn't get it if you didn't tell them that. if you recognised that it was important but didn't have the headspace to process it, you can reblog without commentary for others, or to come back to later. or you can save it somewhere and wait until you DO have the capacity to read it over a few more times, ponder it, consider what it might mean, figure out how to understand it, and THEN reblog it
but no. rushing to reblog while it is still opaque. rushing to admit to ignorance rather than spend the time to achieve understanding. perhaps hoping that somebody will break it down for you more simply, though to my mind it was quite simply phrased in the first place. never stopping to take the time first
comprehension is not always instant! sometimes it takes a bit of time for something to percolate after you read it; sometimes you need to read it a few times; sometimes you realise you don't have the context for it and either go and get the context or accept that it's not for you right now
please just simply slow down. you don't always have to respond to everything within a second or two. it is okay if it is not an instantaneous understanding. we all need to get more comfortable with thinking more slowly and more deeply and more carefully, and not letting our instant split second responses drive us all the time, because they are a barrier to genuine reflection
Remind me later.
if I just had the presence of mind and the wherewithal and the chutzpah and the bandwidth and the executive function and the energy and the mental resources and the spoons and the right attitude and the capacity and the gumption and th

I’m writing a long fic for KhunBam settle after the push in season 1 to Workshop Battle, a canon divergent fic. Mostly in Bam’s POV. I like to write from his point of view because Bam is really an interesting character to work on. But when writing, I decide to expand it to Hell Train saga (and maybe in season 3, I guess:DD?).
I realize something worthy of talking about.
Bam was hurt so much when Khun was trapped and may have died in Hand of Arlene. Every one of his friends has tried so hard to save and help him in the Workshop Battle, and Bam really truly appreciates that. But… everything is not enough compared to Rachel. When Bam met Rachel again at Train City, even though there were Khun, Wangnan, and Ehwa, Bam ONLY SAW Rachel. Khun called him and Bam didn’t hear because all his attention was on Rachel.
A good thing is that Bam has come to his sense thank to Hwaryun. He felt guilty and reflected on himself about what he had done.
The Hell Train saga is the journey for him to overcome the relationship he has with Rachel. He started to think about what was good for himself and learn to accept the fact that everything would never be the same as before, when he was still in the cave and Rachel still came to see him. He learn to give up on something not worth his effort.
He also developed his friendship with Khun, Rak, and the other you know? Especially Khun. Name Hunt Station is my favorite arc because there are a lot of things I talk about (I can talk for a day about how I like the parallel between Kaiser and Jyu Viole Grave, the hidden meaning, the metaphors, etc). This arc has flaws and I know that, it has too many good things (at least for me) that it's flaw doesn’t bother me at all.
From the Workshop Battle to Hell Train saga, we know how much Khun cares and goes for Bam (I will never forget the quote he said if something happens to Bam’s life, he will be like Daniel, do everything to bring Bam back even though it means siding with the devil. I think I can make a post about it).
At the start of Name Hunt Station, Khun noticed something unusual about Bam and asked about that, and Bam told him about what he experienced in the Rice Pot. And also Khun who listened to Bam after the whole mess about Endorsi, tried to understand him and gave him good advice.
Bam, being conflicted about whether he should have been too harsh on Endorsi because he wants to do something for himself? Should he become a god so that he could make everyone's wishes come true? And Khun was the one remind him was human, it’s his power so it was he who chose how to use it. If he wants to use it to save the one he wants, it's fine.
Bam took Khun’s advice too well. It may be recalled what happened to Bam in the Rice Pot too.
The one who noticed his unusualness is Khun, the one who listened to him is Khun, the one who is always by his side is Khun, before, now, and after.
Bam doesn’t blind. Their relationship is growing over time, from Death Floor to Hidden Floor.
And I am still amazed by the fact that what makes his and Rachel’s relationship completely broken is that Rachel hurt Khun. Like, Bam still cared for Rachel even after he said goodbye to her in Death Floor. But Rachel hurt Khun? Ok, she has crossed the line and he won’t ever care for her anymore.
——
I’m sorry if someone reading this mess, English is not my native language and it's incredibly long-winded and rambling when I could just say that the relationship only really began when the Hell Train saga started. And the Workshop Battle is just the prologue.
About the fic, I’m not sure when to post it in AO3 and I want to complete it first before posting it. And I don’t know if I can complete it. But I am still working on it, so I hope I will finish it someday.
