To everyone who has been and will be affected negatively by this election, but especially my trans and queer siblings,

Do Not, under any circumstances, take your own life. 

That's what they want you to do. Don't give them the satisfaction. Things suck ass right now but this isn't an immediate death sentence by any means. We can, and we WILL still fight. I know I will and I know I’m not alone in that. If any of us are going to go out, let's at least be able to say we went out standing up and fighting. Killing yourself is not an option. They may have won the electoral college but they have not truly won yet. Do what you have to, cry, scream, sob, hit something, as long as you are still breathing they have not won yet.

I'm not giving up and I'm sure as shit not letting any of you give up either.

I know you're scared, I know you're tired, believe me I am too. In spite of that I am determined to live because I truly believe there is nothing else worth doing. I am going to fight like hell and in the meantime, in between the battles, there are people to love, dogs to pet, food to eat, and art to make. I'm not going to miss out on that just because some republican fuckwads think I should and at the risk of sounding too prescriptive I don't think you should either.

Right now it looks like the next 4 years are going to be hell and we will probably be fighting the decisions made here for a long time coming but IT IS NOT HOPELESS. The world is not hopeless, this country is not hopeless, we are not hopeless, and in the evening that we cannot find hope we will create our own. It’s going to be hard and it’s going to hurt like hell but I wholeheartedly believe in us and it’s going to take more than one fucked up election to change that.

Looking at the election rn….what is going on??

I tend to avoid talking politics on this blog - I have other spaces and places where I do get into it - and people need places to just

exist

and decompress.

It's just as important as keeping informed.

That said, I'll get into things below the cut. It's gonna suck, but more than ANYTHING else, giving up right now is the Worst Possible Choice to make.

Mourn today. Feel your feelings, and get those tears out. At the very least the act of being in those emotions might help you sleep better tonight because you'll physically tire yourself out.

Tomorrow: Make dr. appointments if you can. Get your vaccinations up to date, and see if your doctor will give you anything you could qualify for in the next four years.

Renew your passport, make sure your birth certificate and other documents are easily within reach, and if not, make steps to get copies.

Reconnect to your communities and find strength in numbers where you can. Your immediate networks are going to be really important in the next four years.

After 2025: Tune in as much as you can. Watch local legislation, vote one ANYTHING you can vote on. Sign petitions. If you can call and write your reps, do so.

FIRST AND FOREMOST KEEP YOURSELF SAFE AND ALIVE.

You absolutely cannot do anything for anyone else if you're not on your own two feet first. Surviving the day is priority #1.

Mind your words - threats against the President can, and often are taken seriously. Doesn't mean if you meant it as a joke, doesn't matter if it was a meme, you're running risks you can't afford, back off for your own safety.

Changes won't happen overnight, but deciding that it's done and there's nothing you can do about it is only going to help the people who want to make it even worse. Don't let the despair of this result stop you from fighting for your fellow Americans.

"I don't talk politics." Is a valid response in professional settings. (Remember, first and foremost keep yourself safe and alive).

I want to remind everyone as polls begin to close, to not panic when the red “mirage” comes. That’s exactly what it is: a mirage. Historically, republican votes are counted first because they tend to populate rural areas, whereas democrats tend to populate cities. So, of course republican votes will come in first and democrats later in the evening. We know that Trump will prematurely claim victory before all the votes are counted as he did this in the last election. I urge you to not look at the polls until at least midnight, the latest tomorrow morning.

Do not cause yourself unnecessary anxiety and fall for the red mirage. The blue shift always follows after and I firmly believe that Harris is in the lead, we just won’t see it for the next few hours.

Ok, I am just genuinely baffled at the people who somehow find a way to hate on 'Loser, Baby'.

Like, if you don't like Huskerdust that's fine... but 'Loser, Baby' is not overshadowing/brushing off Angel's SA. It's not victim blaming. And it's not Husk telling Angel to just shut up and get over it.

Like I've seen it so much, and you know what? Fuck it. Welcome to my TedTalk on why it's not all of those things.

For starters: Husk doesn't know about Angel's SA

When Angel has his vulnerable outburst (Side note, props to Blake I mean, they said 'take 5' he heard 'change lives') he talks about how he feels like he has to act the way he does to keep Valentino happy because he stupidly sold his soul to him. That he wants to get drugged up because that’s his escape. That he wants to be broken because maybe, just maybe Val will let him go. He wants to be free, but he can't and he has no one to blame but himself.

"What's the worst part of this hell, I can only blame myself" is literally the pre chorus to his song (Poison), and that is what he shares with Husk.

Not once does he bring up his abuse or SA. If he did, do you think a song would have even happened? Look how Husk reacted when someone tried to drug Angel's drink! Now that Husk actually genuinely cares about him? Dead. Dead. Valentino would be dead.

We as the audience know more than the other characters. We were given the insight of Angel's true trauma.l that he deals with on the daily. You can't get upset at a character for not knowing something they would have no way of knowing unless it was shared with them.

Moving onto the song itself, it's a song of empathy.

Allow me to explain.

Husk pinpoints perfectly what Angel is feeling in this moment:

"So things look bad, and your back's against the wall Your whole existence seems fuckin' hopeless You're feelin' filthy as a dive bar bathroom stall Can't face the world sober and dopeless You've lost your way, you think your life is wrecked"

When Husk starts singing, you can tell that Angel is expecting Husk to pull the whole "But that's not true! It's not hopeless! You're life's not wrecked!" and is very surprised when Husk doesn't.

Instead, Husks says "Yeah. You're right." And this is when a lot of the haters get angry- but hold on a second.

When someone is feeling all of those things, saying things like "That's not true! You'll be ok!" aren't helpful at all. That's brushing it off. Even if it may be true, that doesn't help anyone when they're feeling like hopeless, lost, losers.

Because that's sympathy, not empathy. Sympathy is feeling for someone, and trying to make them feel better. Empathy, is not trying to make them feel any certain way- better or worse- empathy is simply feeling with someone. And that's what Husk does.

During the first chorus, Husk is clearly teasing Angel a bit while doing so, but not without good reason. It's keeping Angel from closing back up again, he's being a little bit silly with him and teasing him. I mean, did you see the silly lil walk he did crossing in front of Angel? And Angel is super confused because he's like "how tf is this supposed to make me feel better??"

That's the thing. It's not. That's sympathy's job, not empathy's. Empathy just want's you to feel felt with, it doesn't want to tell you how to feel. And adding that bit of silliness gives Angel's vulnerability a chance to breathe and it prevents Angel from closing in on himself.

The next verse, pre-chorus, and chorus is when the empathy though really kicks in.

The next verse, is the first part of empathy: Sharing about a similar experience you went through.

In this verse, now that Angel is listening not just hearing, Husk shares that he has been gruesomely damaged. Calling back to what he shared literally seconds before the song. That he knows what it's like to sign away your soul, and constantly look back at it with huge amounts of regret. That knowing that moment is what turned him into the mess he is today, and that he has no one to blame but himself. Just like Angel.

Then in the pre-chorus where there's the whole:

"I sold my soul to a psychopathic freak Haha! And you think that makes you unique? Get outta here, man!"

That isn't Husk telling Angel to get over himself and this isn’t him undermining what Angel’s been through. That's him saying 'I did too, you're not alone’

And then the very simple word change from "you're" to "we're" in the chorus is SO FREAKING HUGE. Because Husk is essentially saying "You feel like a total loser right now. Ok. Then if what happened to you/what you went through makes you a loser, then I'm a loser too. Let's be loser's together." Instead of trying to make Angel stop feeling like he's a hopeless loser, he decides that he is too.

He meets Angel where he is.

Aka: ✨empathy✨

Angel finally feels seen, understood, felt with. All the goals of empathy. He no longer feels alone in what he is struggling with, which is HUGE! Especially for people going through/dealing with SA and abuse.

The bridge of the song, is also extremely important, because this is where they acknowledge the differences in what they're going through. Their root problem is the same, but how it messed up their lives and created the problems they deal with now are completely different

And that's around when the song begins to shift from just Husk showing empathy and comforting Angel, to them both finding comfort in each other.

Which you can clearly see by the chorus under the umbrella, where it's not just one of them singing the chorus, but it's both of them. Because they have found a place to go to and confide in, a place of comfort, with each other.

Like, I am genuinely concerned that people find this song toxic like... have- have you never experienced empathy before? Are you ok?

So yeah, to wrap this up, if you don’t like ‘Loser, Baby’ just because you don’t like the song in general? That’s fine (odd, but fine)

But if you hate it because it “undermines Angel’s experience and what he goes through” I…

Some things worth remembering...

Thing 1: Peter Jackson's original Lord of the Rings trilogy (largely hailed as the most successful adaptation) has itself changed a lot from its source material. Chronology got swapped around and compressed, and entire characters were left out completely.

Thing 2: Rings of Power is not, actually, an adaptation of a single Tolkien work. It's an interpretation of a number of different bits of Middle Earth lore + some entirely new non-Tolkien characters to fill it in.

Thing 3: I am frankly astonished that Tumblr, the bastion of fanfic that it is, is out here complaining that Rings of Power strays too far from Tolkien's canon lore.

Listen, no one has to like any show/book/movie/whatever. Like it or don't like it. But "it strays too much from the source material" is not generally, in itself, a legit reason to not like something. Chances are there's something about how it's changed from Tolkien's lore that you don't like. So figure out what that is and explain why that bothers you.

You'd think people who like fanfiction, or transformative works would actually enjoy changes that are made to adaptations, as something to add to the lore, or at least to have as some cool AU.

Do I have issues with stuff in the Rings of Power? Also yes.

Do I even like stuff of it? Yes, I do.

And that said: as much as I have issues with parts of the series itself, I have issues with some posts floating around already, coming from selfproclaimed experts; posts bordering outright on fandom-anti behavior.

With the series, I keep it as I always have: enjoy and let enjoy, ship and let ship, and even if I don't like anything specifically, I'm fine if somebody finds their absolute enjoyment in it and certainly won't go into their posts/askbox.

There's no harm coming from behaving like a decent human being. There really isn't.

form community provider networks and see if you or someone you know can be trained to use manual vacuum aspiration kits or a Del-Em

all of the above should be done in complete secrecy using verbal communication, end-to-end encrypted apps such as Signal, or a VPN

If you are in a yellow state, you currently have constitutional abortion protections but they are in jeopardy. Get active in local political groups NOW to fight back against constitutional amendments to ban abortion. Your focus should be purely on political action.

If you are in Michigan, you currently have a ban in place which is being challenged, and your governor is working to add abortion protections into the Michigan state constitution. Your focus should be on supporting the work that is currently under way.

If you are in a green state, your state has constitutional protections for abortion that are unlikely to be challenged. Your focus should be on helping others to enter your state for abortion care.

connect with abortion access groups such as Aid Access, Abortion on Demand, the National Network of Abortion Funds, or Just The Pill

volunteer to help people enter your state for abortion care, either with transportation help or letting someone crash on your couch

if you live in a green state with no current or predicted primary routes from other states for abortion access, you can focus your efforts on supporting political action in other areas

If you are in a purple state, your state currently has no constitutional protections for abortion but is unlikely to implement a ban. You have two focuses: pushing for constitutional protections AND helping others to enter your state for abortion care (see green state list).

So I was watching a video and came across this comment that perfectly sums up my frustrations with Rey’s character and how Anakin’s legacy has been destroyed.

“Rey single handedly destroyed Anakin’s entire legacy, and made his whole life a joke. - you don’t need to train to be stupidly powerful with the lightsaber or the force. Training isn’t necessary anymore, as Rey proves in TFA and TLJ, and in some ways in TROS since I doubt Leia taught her force heal, force skype or force lightning. Thus, Anakin’s tough decision to leave his mother in slavery while training to be a Jedi powerful enough to one day save her is made pointless. - you don’t need to be in control of your powers. Hell, fits of unexplained anger are encouraged and other characters love you for it. Rey can be rude, destructive and irrational all she wants, and everyone supports her, while Anakin was always taught to obey orders and not think for himself, furthering his feeling of being enslaved and controlled. But nah, he was just wrong I guess. - the path to the dark side is no longer the easy and fast one. Everyone can just decide freely, flip flop between allegiances and do whatever the fuck they want to. I don’t know what Anakin was tempted by, Rey is angry all the time, uses force lightning, a power only the most powerful sith can do, and is never tempted in the slightest, always making the morally perfect decisions and never giving in to any temptations. Just be incorruptible, Anakin! - You can force heal easily at no cost. Anakin’s mother died for nothing, as did Padme. Anakin’s whole turn to the dark side was made utterly ridiculous by this movie. Anakin trained for years, mastering everything he could, striving for more knowledge and wisdom to be powerful enough to save and protect those around him, when he could have just done everything he wanted by closing his eyes. Fucking hell Rey, is there anything you aren’t perfect at. - He didn’t even kill Palpatine. He didn’t redeem himself. He didn’t bring peace to the galaxy. He did bring order though, the First Order. Fucking hell, did he actually do anything right or did Rey seriously outclass him in every _single thing he ever did This trilogy just shits on everything that came before. Everyone in Star Wars sucks because Rey is just perfect at everything she does, and all the other characters, with their flaws, struggles and problems they have to overcome just look stupid compared to her and her god powers. I hate this trilogy so much omg words can’t describe it”
