two unrelated ai thoughts I've been debating writing down:

I think people don't sufficiently understand the parallels between the ways ais are created and, like, the kinds of things you see in horror films, comic character origin stories, etc. it really is a lot of bludgeoning the thing into submission with repeated inputs, and we have a long way to go before the "experiences" that shape these things resemble a diverse lived experience (which would substantially change how I think we should think about them if it were true.) it's like if a character were made exclusively out of brainwashing.

so much of ai right now is in parallel with the (western?) sense of individualism, of a lonely supergenius. not just the way they're used to empower a single person and to replace interpersonal collaboration—I also mean the ais themselves, which simulate a siloed experience. when people do make more than one ai model or instance interact to solve problems it's in a master-slave relationship or in a "critique/criticize/find fault in the other" setup. why have I not seen anyone prompt collaborative dialogue? "here's an idea I had; what does it make you think of, other ai model?" I actually understand why the underlying math makes simulating diversity of viewpoint rather difficult in an ai, which I won't go into here, but come on, someone's got to be able to do it.
