warnings: angst, character death, violence, not proofread
I was reminded of Yuji when I listened to homesick by wave to earth, so why not make some angst?

Freezing breath, frozen memories
“Y/N, I love you,”
”Where is this coming from, ‘Ji?”
”I just felt like saying it.”
“Well, I love you too! “
Fires surrounding the city, engulfing the area. One curse behind it, now possessing a boy’s body. That boy lays dormant within the confines of his own walls. Destruction filling the air and corrupting those that come close to it.
Her, the ever so loving girl, being the one to run towards the flames instead of away. Her, the one who watches the curse taking over the boy’s body.
She stands in front of the one she loves, fear absent in the face of the king of curses. She looks at his face and tries to find remnants of the person she loves—wincing at the face the curse makes.
“Baby.”
”Yeah?”
”If I ever get taken over by Sukuna, run as far away as you can.”
“I’m not that stupid. I wouldn’t even be within the area when you both switch.”
”Good. Keep it that way.”
She attacks with all her might, trying to relieve the burden that Sukuna was placing on Yuji. She couldn’t watch as everyone she loved got attacked— she couldn’t stand there and do nothing.
Fearless behavior
Multiple attacks, countless black flashes. Allies and friends alike trembling in fear. Communities of curses emerging from the cracks in the ground. Jujutsu sorcerers at a loss, most seriously injured.
The sky is painfully dark, stars cleared from the view. It was like the heavens refused to give salvation in the face of hell.
“Y/N, come watch this movie with me!”
Yuji stands at the door frame to the bedroom holding a bowl of popcorn in his hand. She gets up from the bed and approaches him.
”Is it Human Earth Worm again?”
”Maybe….”
”Can we watch literally anything else?”
”Fine! Let’s pick whatever you want to watch this time.”
She walks past him, grabbing a piece of popcorn and walking towards the living room.
”I’m just kidding, baby. I’ll watch it a million times with you.”
He beams in excitement, following after her.
”You’re the best!”
She managed to land attacks on Sukuna, leaving remnants of scratches on his body. As fast as she was, her mind stopped her from swinging with all her might. That was still her love’s body.
She doesn’t give up, though. She stays, just like she said she would. Like she said she would forever.
“I think I want to marry you.”
He stares up at her, laying on her chest with his arms glued to her waist. She looks down at him.
“That’s so sudden, ‘Ji. Why do you say that?”
She smiles, gently caressing his hair.
“I don’t know what life would be without you in it.”
She laughs. He hugs her tighter.
“I don’t know either. Guess we gotta get married.”
It doesn’t exist in me anymore
Sukuna laughs at the scene. A city up in flames and helpless sorcerers groveling at his feet. But there’s one thing bothering him—her.
The girl he feels in the body’s soul. The one he instinctively gravitates towards. He smiles. In a blink of an eye, her face is in the grasp of his hand.
“You’re irritating. Stop struggling.”
Tears emerge from her eyes, gazing into the irises in front of her. Exhaustion hitting her body feeling the touch of the person she knows by heart. By habit.
“Your eyes remind me of red beans.”
They lay facing each other, the grass flowing against their bodies.
”Is that an insult?”
The sky is painfully blue, as the couple gazes into each other's eyes.
”No, I love red beans.”
”Yawwww. That means you love my eyes?”
The sun gazes over them, painting a beautiful scene in the meadows.
”Of course I do, Yuji.”
”Well I love yours too!”
Her body goes limp. Any struggle leaving her resolve, finally giving up. Sukuna laughs maniacally, watching her gaze search through his soul. He knew she wasn’t looking at him, but who he was keeping within him.
She manages to pull her hand up to his face with her remaining strength, cupping his cheek and tracing her thumb along the edge.
“I lo-ve you, Yuji. It’s n-ot your fault.”
She says through choked sobs. A small smile appeared on her face.
Sukuna responds with a big smile, feeling a rush from her comment. He snaps her neck in an instant.
He dropped her to the floor without a second thought.
Erase me from here and set me free
Yuji’s eyes are wide open, seeing all the destruction ahead of him. But most of all, his eyes directed towards the body that lay below him—the body conveniently placed there for him to see first when he came to.
It had been seemingly seconds since he was last aware of his surroundings, first he was in the subway and now he was on the street. He looks at his hands first, shaking as if he was terrified. And he was. It was all because of him.
There she lay. The hair he would caress before falling asleep, the hand he would secretly tug at, the chest he’d lay on when he needed comfort.
His girl.
He drops to his knees, struggling to breathe. Megumi watches the whole scene unfold behind him.
All I wanted was to fly-y
“Yuji, what do you want to do in life?”
”Hm.. I want to make people happy.”
”I guess you already have hit that goal!”
He tugs at her hand, holding it as if she was the one who grabbed his first.
“Baby? Why are you laying there?”
He smiles gently, but it doesn’t reach his eyes.
“The ground is dirty. We should go home so you can rest properly.”
He inches closer to her chest and wraps both his arms around her, lifting her up. He presses his chest into hers, not feeling the beat of her heart. He pressed his face into the crook of her neck, smelling the scent he would always take in.
”You’re so cold! How long have you been waiting here for me?”
He starts looking around for something to ground him.
”Fushiguro, why was she waiting for me here?”
Megumi looks at him with a pained expression.
“Itadori…”
Megumi looks away, unable to look in his eyes. Yuji looks back at her, scanning every inch of her body.
He cradles her in his arms yet again, feeling her arm go limp on his side. The facade goes away and he finally understands. A string of sobs and pained cracks in his voice came after.
I can’t believe my wings are broken
He buries himself deeper into her, letting every single tear drop stain her bloodied shirt. The proud, outgoing and determined boy finally lets himself cry.
“Do you ever get tired?”
”Of course I get tired. I nap a lot.”
”That’s true, but not what I mean ‘Ji. I mean do you get tired of forcing yourself to be happy for others?”
”Sometimes. But it’s okay.”
”Then I hope I can be someone that helps you rest.”
He tugs at the back of her shirt, trying to feel any sense of comfort she once would constantly give him. The comfort that would come to him without having to beg for it.
He struggles to breathe for a good amount of time, watching as the color continuously leaves her body—as the warmth becomes scarce.
“What am I supposed to do without you?”
He manages to let out, feeling a part of his heart drift away from him. He looks up at the sky, cursing the heavens for allowing this to happen. But most of all, he was blaming himself.
And fell against the sky
He pulls her off the ground and into his lap, pressing his cheek into her forehead. Every fighting bone of his body leaves with every second passing by.
“If I ever die sooner than we think, promise me you will keep living.”
He looks up at her, legs tangled underneath the blanket that’s draped on the couch, both of them on each end.
”Woah, that’s dark. I won’t let you die baby!”
She looks up from her book, giving a gentle smile to him.
”I know you won’t, just promise me hypothetically,.”
He stares for a second longer, searching her face for any hints for her comment. He decides not to think any further, the thought pains him.
”…okay then I promise.”
He stays there for what feels like ages, people refusing to even go near him because of what occurred. The brightness of his eyes, the ones she loved to look into, absent.
“I’m sorry, princess.”
He whispers. He pulls her closer as if that were more possible.
“I don’t know if I can keep my promise”
The air blazes at both of them, the sun finally coming up after the longest night in Shibuya.
He places his hand on her cheek, feeling the texture of her skin once more. The sun gazes upon both of them, finally lighting up the chaos that Sukuna inflicted.
Yuji stays sitting on the ground, still cradling her in his lap.
“I don’t know if I can.”
He gazes at her once more, hoping for a response.
”Not without you.”
Tears spill out once again, threatening to take his heart with them.
“I know you can, ‘Ji.”
A voice says in the distance. He looks up immediately, eyes widening at the sudden noise. But nothing appears in front of him.
He tightens his hold on her, forever grasping at the strings she spun for him. He gets up with her in his arms, walking in the direction of the sun.
Oh, will you please take me home?
After that night, no one had seen or heard from Yuji since. Everyone got their wish.
The vessel of Sukuna has vanished.
