OH BUT THE THINGGG about ilya giving shane flowers is that it is SUCH a slavic boyfriend thing to do. to ilya buying flowers for his partner is the baseline. the bare minimum of good manners. (as an aside, consider how he wants to do it SO badly for SUCH a long time but does not. CANnot.) when he gifts shane flowers, shane is flustered instantly. ilya you shouldn't have. ilya these are so beautiful but its so... and ilya goes so what and shane goes i don't know.... because i think my beautiful shane also thinks that flowers are for girls. he doesn't want to but he does and he doesn't like it that he thinks it either but the thought is there it's like a reflex. and ilya says do you like them. and that stops shane's mind from racing and he thinks and says yes. of course i like them. i love them so much. because he does. and ilya can see that he does. and that is allll that matters. because from then on ilya gives shane flowers very regularly. at least once a month, more often on special occasions – birthdays, boyfriend days, start of season, end of playoffs. it's a thing now and ilya is so so stoked and elated that shane loves it too

Obsessed with the idea that Ilya has wanted to get Shane flowers for a while now, had thought about it maybe before- seeing the elaborate bouquets in flower shops in passing, wondering if Shane would like them. Wondering if he likes roses- or something less classic. If Shane’s ever been given flowers before. It makes something in Ilya’s chest ache to think he never has. Shane is so, gorgeous, so beautiful, he deserved a bundle of flowers are pretty and radiant as him.
And I AGREEE I think shaney bug would have a weird reaction at first, concerned that well, guys don’t get flowers do that? But then again Shane guesses he never really thought about it. He’s only ever really known the stereotype of the man buys the girl flowers. But Shane loves, he looooves how it feels when Ilya presents him with a bundle of brightly coloured flowers, the bouquet so large it’s heavy in his hands. They smell sweet, are gorgeous and it makes Shane’s stomach swirl, it looks like Ilya’s love, how he makes him feel, wrapped up in a thick ribbon bow.
And Ilya’s simple “do you like them” and it overwhelms Shane, makes his heart flutter, butterflies his belly. “Yes, he’s very much” and Shane has to use a glass serving jug as a vase but he puts them in the kitchen, so he’ll walk in and see them every morning, first thing.
The idea of casual flowers is soooo cutie to me. Maybe when Ilya goes grocery shopping and then he’s bringing home grocery store flowers. Or they are going out to dinner and when Shane gets in the car there’s a huge bundle of flowers on the car seat, and Shane is always like Ilya when did you even get these? But god, it makes him feel so fucking special, so treasured. It makes him feel precious, loved.
