christians: what could possibly be in that evil book…. what horrible spells does it hold within its pages… what black magic does it propagate….
the talmud: so if you send your kid off to Torah school but he has a really hard time with it, send him back home and go to school yourself instead so that once you’ve learned Torah you can go and teach your entire family. in fact, once some rabbi went out to go to Torah school and do just this, and on his way he came through this town and he asked if he could stay in the synagogue for the night. and of course the rabbi said yes but weird enough no one was in the streets and something was kind of off about the whole place. so our hero went into the synagogue only to find a seven headed demon just hanging out in the library!! our hero is terrified and prays super hard and because of this the demon is vanquished. he goes back to the rabbi and is like “dude wtf” and the rabbi was like “listen i know this is unorthodox but you’re well known for how good at praying you are and this demon has been terrorizing us for well over a month and we were desperate. we knew you wouldn’t die” and the guy was like “i didn’t know that!” who do you think is in the right? hm. tough question. anyway. what were we talking about again? oh right. what if you make your sukkah doorway 1/7 of a cubit too short. would that be fucked up or what
look up Bavli Kiddushin 29b <3
I really need non Jews to understand that the Talmud is mostly just a bunch of nerds arguing about their hyperfixation.

I was taught the boy in the striped pajamas in SIXTH grade in 2012. I am currently 23 going on 24 in a few months. Remember 2012 isn't that LONG ago and they already started doing this imagine the students in grade levels 6th through 9th learning the white washed shit NOW. JUST FOR CONTEXT I LIVE IN A BLUE STATE and sanctuary city where undocumented immigrants can live in peace. The cherry on top of this was that I was taught this by a LATINA teacher in a working class HISPANIC neighborhood. She was not a bad teacher she was amazing and taught us the themes the best she could but the fact that she thought it was a good idea to use this crappy book means the problem begins with the school curriculum they teach teachers in college for public schools.
My high school sophomore teacher was right the Boy in the striped pajamas is an awful book because of how it completely erases nuance and agency from Jewish victims for a more black and white pov.

It feels like political movements nowadays are just attracting all of the most morally deficit egocentric assholes, and they keep mucking things up because everything is just an ego trip for them until it becomes inconvenient to their image. Then they just pretend they had nothing to do with it and leave, with the actual devoted people having to pick up the pieces.
yep
that said, i don't think it's totally new, per se, because positions of power attract people who want to have power over others. see: cops, church leaderships, your friend's dickhead boss, etc. but MAN does it feel real bad right now.
i think the whole wave of making Having the Right Politics your main personality trait has left us in some pretty dire straits. especially like--the aesthetics of Correct Political Opinions without the underlying belief in kindness or privacy or dignity and respect? i was the teenager who thought that anybody who didn't use all the right lingo or accept that you were correct without question (yikes) or who asked you to explain it to them were bad people to be punished/belittled. it did not make me a kind or generous person. it did not build bridges or allow for compromise or half-measures in the name of things being even a little better. and it doesn't let people make mistakes or learn and grow.
then i got kicked off the internet for a year, and guess what? i looped back around to not being Like That just in time to be a Real Adult. and thank fuck for that.
anyway.
cult of personality, egocentric assholes in power, it's got a long history, but it's really scary to watch the whole--fascist lefties thing escalate over the last decade or so.
and you're very right that we all get left in the wreckage, trying to salvage things. meanwhile people move on to the next big thing. the new political fad.
my friend shared this quote the other day: "the logical result of fascism is the introduction of aesthetics into political life," [link to post, it's good] and i am really feeling that.
i was the OP of the modesty anon on etz-ashashiyot's blog. thank you so so so so much for the tips you added! they are really helpful
!! i'm really glad i could help. i hope you're able to find things that work for you! 💙
Thank you so much I really needed the assurance, the discomfort had been mild before but something made it really bad I had been feeling like I'm overreacting to silly things. Thank you again.
Absolutely! Dysphoria can definitely come and go in waves, and sometimes when you start paying more attention to it, it'll feel a lot louder. Annoying but true. XD You're totally not overreacting and I'm glad you sent me a message. <3
Hello, sorry this is a strange question I'm new to this and I don't know who to ask. Can someone experience second hand dysphoria? For example if say an afab enby/ trans person sees a man or a male character be feminized they get really uncomfortable, can it happen or is it limited to self? Is it even dysphoria? Again sorry this reads like a stupid question..
IMO? Absolutely. I used to get bad dysphoria around other people's breasts. Even just my friends talking about their own cleavage. Hated reading about people's enjoyment of them. I have since had top surgery and am almost never bothered by this anymore. (Honestly, I was kind of ashamed of this for ages. Admitted it to some cis friends who were unoffended and suggested it would probably be easier after surgery and hey, they were right.)
The thing with characters is that a lot of us connect to them so hard, you know? Their experiences feel very real and personal. But honestly, even if it was -- I don't know, a passing glimpse of a character you knew nothing about being feminized, I totally get why you would have an immediate recoil response from it.
Dysphoria can make you really ill at ease -- in your body, in the world, in your relationships. It's really complex and very personal. It can be really subtle or really in your face. There's ways it can be straightforward, but in my experience (especially being nonbinary!!) it's much more confusing and complicated.
Best of luck, anon, and welcome to the family. <3

If I saw one of these in a sci-fi or fantasy movie I would just accept them as a made up part of the fantasy without question. The possibility of them being a real thing would never even enter my head
