Hi, mintyrest! I hope that you are thriving! After a long time away, there is a new bit by DorkWingsRise up on Ao3 (if you have time to spend reading my silliness). Cheers :)
I sort of know: A Happy New Year, right?
I'm a little slow, cause of RL of course, but I've got impressions:
Chapter One feels like a one shot spiraling out of control. I mean, if it stopped there, I'd get it.
Chapter Two starts with what feels like the meme of the screaming "Then They FXXKED". Which is surprisingly, really nice and deals with the complicated aftermath. It's clumsy and awkward (that word looks so wrong for some reason), and really sells the investment they have going forward.
Chapter Three has both nice mama Sabine and mama Caline in the background, so that's fun. I do sort of like evil Sabine a smidge more, but she doesn't fit the fun tone of this work at all.
Four is a good parent Gabe? Which is weird considering he's usually way more nuts. Slipping into an art fugue is cute, and I sort of feel for him. Though I don't understand his relationship with Chloe really. Considering Adrien's relationship with Chloe is a bit toxic? Friends don't blackmail friends with their friendship. Just sayin'.
Five introduces a few things I was wondering about. New Chloe skills are cute, but it kicks up a lot more questions I have about Adrien in this universe and more importantly Zoe. Because that's a tire fire that demands attention in a larger universe.
However sweet and healthy the universe is, I can count on Audrey to do some major damage.
I'm watching "Centaurworld" way late
I'm on Season 2 Episode 2 and paused it SPECIFICALLY to come on this blog because no way in HELL would any platform of Centaurworld fans find Wammawink the worst! Right?
She's my fav! Wammawink fans, like or reblog to show our girl she's loved and that the birds don't know what they're talking about!
Because the version of The Herd that the birdtaurs are watching is in it’s 7th or 8th season.
Horse is to The Herd as Cousin Oliver is to the Brady Bunch. A new character who comes in and changes the group dynamic by challenging the status quo.
Wammawink, like the Wammawink in the first episode, is an overbearing secret hording wet blanket who drinks too much and reacts with denial instead of dealing with any of the actual underlying issues. They have years of background coloring their impression of her. Not to mention the only characters who know her backstory at all is Horse and ‘possibly’ Bayden. (I’m pretty sure he flies by in the twin tree shaman episode inside the flashback).
One of the things I love about Buffy is that it presents knowledge and research as an absolutely vital part of the process of world saveage. So much of the show is dedicated to the characters sitting around doing research. And that’s pretty rare. Usually if research is a plot device in these kind of shows, it happens off screen. Which does kind of make sense on a storytelling level - it’s not usually that interesting to watch people look stuff up. But I really like that BtVS finds a way to make it interesting, not only because it leads to a lot of great group scenes, but also because it foregrounds the value of educating oneself about something before engaging with it. Which, you know, is an excellent value to foreground.
This post was very much inspired by this tweet.
Sunnydale High probably had the money to spend on a good library because it’s sports teams were constantly being found dead in unusual circumstances.
I think it's more than fair to want gay sex on tv and evil gay representation and hot gay serial killers etc etc but I keep seeing a lot of pushback against "sanitized" gay representation that often just encompasses "family friendly" (aka g, pg, pg13 rated media) gay rep and, while I certainly don't think it should replace hot gay sex, hot gay villains, trashy gay rep, slutty gays, etc etc (in fact, imo we need more gay media of all types and genres and ratings), this family friendly gay media serves the purpose of giving lgbt kids representation that they may not even realize they want or need yet until they see someone onscreen that they finally genuinely connect with, which they otherwise may not have until they're much older. Also I just don't like this habit of begrudging younger lgbt generations of things. Who cares if the cartoon shows are cheesy or the high school romcoms are cringy! They're not necessarily for you.
Yeah, so...
If I’m up in your comment section, and you tell me that I’m overthinking your work, it’s just for fun...
I’m gonna check out on your work. All of it. Possibly for years.
You can tell me it’s crack, you can tell me it’s a one shot, you can tell me that you didn’t mean to put subjects into your work. I might even say that I’m overthinking things.
But outright ignoring careless ‘Authorial Intent’ because my brain is working too hard on the basis that your work is actually meaningless, means I’m going to start waiting for the ‘Death of the Author’ to kick in.
If you try fucking w/ gender and it just confirms that you are in fact cis, that still gives you like an upgrade because now you’re approaching your sense of self with Intent™.
self-knowlege is never wasted.

the least realistic thing about star trek is that starfleet uniforms don’t have pockets and nobody complains about it
My instinct is to agree with this, but like, when I really think about it…
No money, no credit cards, identification is all vocal/fingerprints/retinal, so no wallet.
Again, doors are voice activated, or just unlocked by entering a code. No keys.
Communication devices are tiny and stick onto clothing starting in Next Gen. TOS had bulkier communication that they carried around or kept in, like, packs and stuff, so the arguments for pockets is a little more valid, and if I remember correctly, those costumes did have pockets, tho I could be wrong about that. But anything post TNG, the point is moot anyway.
Tricorders and phasers are really the only thing anyone’s carrying around, and that’s usually on away missions where they’d be bring their packs/holsters or just have them out. I mean, who wants to stick a phaser in their pocket?
So, yeah. There’s not much little stuff people need to carry around everywhere. And if they are preparing for a longer journey or want to bring bulkier things, well…just bring a bag. It fits more anyway.
what if i find a cool rock and want to take it home with me
Every time a member of the USS Enterprise has found a cool rock and taken it home, it has resulted in eleven deaths, six temporal displacements, the holodecks breaking again, and somebody getting turned into a lizard. Pockets are a privilege, not a right.
I’ve gotten more notes on this comment than anything else I’ve ever posted, but this is the best addition to it I’ve ever seen. Thank you.
wish there was a non rude way to be like “I understand your criticism, I don’t even necessarily disagree with it, but I am doing these things on purpose, because I like them and I want to, and therefore your opinion has no value, because you might think me painting a room entirely pink is tacky, but I did it on purpose”

the Undiagnosed Neurodivergent Experience™ is trawling through wikipedia/webMD desperately searching for a mental disorder that matches your symptoms, whilst being simultaneously terrified you will discover a mental disorder that matches your symptoms
this was a great read. “Laziness Does Not Exist” by Devon Price
Starting some silly autistic comics because they vibe (his name is Apple Sauce)
Even if you don't think/know that you have [disorder] (or even if you know you don't!) you're allowed to use coping strategies meant for or associated with that disorder. You can use ADHD tips for your poor memory. You can stim even if you're not autistic (stimming has a lot of overlap between disorders honestly). You can use chronic fatigue tips if you have depression. You're not stealing resources. If it helps you, it helps you, whether you were the target audience or not
#dismantling the 'but am I hurting ENOUGH?' brain voice improves the life immeasurably
And doing those things? Can help normalize the behaviors and make them less strange for neurotypical/abled/whatever people. Like, people wanting to keep working from home benefits people who NEED to. Unless you are stealing disabled parking spots or something, we really do want you to use what you need to use to feel better.
