Hello! My name is mira/maati, and I am 22 years old now. It really feels like time is passing by quicker every year .. (⁠;⁠;⁠;⁠・⁠_⁠・⁠) Not particularly religious, but spiritual in a Jedi The Force and also entities and dieties way. I don't have any pronouns preference, and am a-spec in multiple definitions of the term乁⁠(⁠ ⁠.⁠ ⁠ര⁠ ⁠ʖ̯⁠ ⁠ര⁠ ⁠.⁠ ⁠)⁠ㄏ I LOVE ZOHRAN MAMDANI! I AM BLACK!! FREEDOM IS THE RIGHT OF ALL SENTIENT BEINGS! I am currently trying to get into nursing school for my LPN, so that I have a steady career when I finally pursue my archiving/conservator dreams(⁠ ⁠ꈍ⁠ᴗ⁠ꈍ⁠) it is definitely a very small and hard to enter career so better safe than sorry!

I am getting back into reading, mostly old/classic horrors at the moment, but I am also trying to learn to go slow again with some harmless low-stress novels and even trying out some light LIGHT romances. I also spent a small fortune getting the mushishi collection which I'm extremely happy about.

I love watch those shitty historical/xiancia/wuxia c-dramas as well, and am always taking recommendations. Music taste is mostly whatever is on and if I don't have a migraine, but I tend towards folky/indie/no harsh sounds (on account of the migraines) and enjoy emo/alt, 'dad rock', r&b, 90s-2010s rap but some newer too.

A bunch of animes I've enjoyed that I can remember off the dome (most favs in purple 💜):

(old), wolf's rain, given, doukyuusei, ROBOTICA*ROBOTICS <- I've been looking for it again since it came out, fma, mp100, fairy tail (up to episode 200 I think I left off), soul eater (old), bungou stray dogs (old), samurai champloo, baccano (REWATCHING!), kekkai sensen, K, d-gray man (REWATCHING), no. 6, nanbaka (old), death parade, AJIN, juuni taisen (old), days (OLD ASF), noblesse (REWATCHING), cat soup

-> I love classic otherworldly horror, surrealism, slice of life, sci-fi space, wuxia/xianxia, and other media along those lines :) a pretty wide range but surprisingly niche when I get into specifics lol

I also love:

-> Transformers, star wars, (newly) murderbot diaries, iron lung (both), alien, predator (movies) esp alien vs predator, tgcf, (newly) svsss, ghibli films (I need to catch up lol), (newly) resident evil and silent hill, (renewed) metal gear solid, the Magnus archives, welcome to night Vale, fantastic planet, the last unicorn, supernatural (unfortunately (⁠-⁠_⁠-⁠;⁠)⁠・⁠・⁠・), good omens (I read the book have yet to see the TV but I love the actors for it omfg), (starting) the discworld series, one hundred years of solitude, the king in yellow, and labyrinth.

I am sure there are more but I genuinely can't remember until I see them so ┐⁠(⁠‘⁠～⁠`⁠;⁠)⁠┌ Always looking for movie recommendations and for series recommendations!

-> outside of media, which is my primary form of entertainment and the majority of my life, I like to walk nature trails in forest areas, (relearning) horseback riding, napping with my angel cat, hanging with my snake, pool time, biking, eating out/baking/cooking, and honestly little else. I definitely need more hobbies and have been thinking of sewing or pottery but who knows.

I am not on here often even though I love it the most, and I do not get notifications consistently either.. but!! I would love to chat and make friends and join communities instead of just lurking on my own, so I will definitely try to change that.

the issue with growing up in the 2000s and 2010s was like there was this really big push toward "accepting your weirdness" overall but they meant like idk wearing mismatched socks or something not being tangibly beyond the norm in any way shape or form

the reality of depression and overworking yourself and disassociating and making your way through life in a fog is that not only do you suffer in ways you will not anticipate, the things you care about will also suffer and I promise you will not notice it first, before your own suffering, so be very careful about how complacent and complicit you are with problems that crop up, regardless of the cause, because if you ever surface you will first see to yourself and then look around and realize the world you held on for is still burning.

Seeing yourself in media is such a valuable experience, and has helped me understand and process/identify my own feelings, and seeing characters different from me has also helped me understand others - which, imo, is the whole point of media!

I've had two wonderful escapism dreams in the past 24hrs and James Dean was in one of them helping me move out. Like I'd straight up just packed my bags and already had an apartment ready and I had a dramatic escape where I got to keep all my things and also have a cathartic yell at my parents and neatly and forever cut ties, no contact, no guilt or anything.

I absolutely cannot wait until I get this LPN and can run for the hills with financial security (esp in this economy)

Reasons Why Fans of Color Leave/Don’t Interact with Fandom

Casual racism that is brushed off as “an innocent mistake” or “they didn’t mean it” and then everyone pretending like it didn’t happen and moving on with their day (repeat)

Speaking over fans of color about issues that pertain to them specifically

When fans of color speak out about something that makes them uncomfortable or why that don’t interact with it (usually because of the racial/ethnic bias) they are accused of being anti’s or pro-censorship

Characters of color being used as scapegoats/bashed/plot devices 

Characters of color never getting happy endings/real development

Backlash against characters of color if they do anything other than be a white character’s side kick/best friend

Actors of characters of color being harassed for something their character did or didn’t do

White characters/actors getting all the attention/credit despite the fact that they are a side character to a POC or on the same level as the POC

Fanfic authors patting themselves on the back for writing a “realistic” character of color and it’s just a bunch of stereotypes

Being told that they should be happy they were even included when they call out the above people

White fans crying about persecution/exclusion because their fav character/trope/kink/ship isn’t loved by all 

Fan artists re-imaging characters of color as white/lightening skin tone

Everyone rushing to a white fans defense after a well deserved call out while the fan of color receives hate

Never having a safe fandom space and always having to be on guard with new people/fandoms/chats etc because they’ve been burned before

from my own experiences and observations:

fans being overly defensive of the source material/performers when fans of color point out racist behaviors/depictions such as miscasting, cultural appropriation, or colorist writing

being accused of outright bullying/harassment when, even gently, pointing out racist behaviors by fellow fans or creators

being treated as more hostile than peers when expressing the same points. similarly, fans outside of the impacted minority being taken more seriously for their “objectivity”

white knighting for a culture you aren’t apart of when a non-western media is called out for racism. mostly applies to east asian media that includes racist depictions of black people, arab, or generally darker skinned people. most often done by white fans who themselves hold orientalist views of east asians as “soft uwu babies”.

being considered “too negative” or “ungrateful” for being critical of the source material. all critique expressed by a fan of color is somehow 100x more ‘negative’ than anything a white fan says

being excluded from marginalized headcanons. the white characters get to be disabled and/or queer while characters of color (particularly dark skinned characters) are only “allies” at best and bigots at worst. also includes downplaying canonically intersectional minorities for fan headcanons on white characters

complete refuse to engage in own voices stories that center BIPOC. minority made media is ignored in favor of white people talking about us (most of mcu, most of Star Wars, ATLA, the hunger games, etc.). everyone loves revolution and progressive values until they’re in the hands of the actual groups

treating our issues like costumes to insert characters into. for example: the famous MHA BLM fic and people writing about their faves protesting for gaza. (as a personal note, from a palestinian: these depictions often feel extremely voyeuristic and alienating. it’s as if you don’t take our lives seriously. an in-group member depicting their own culture and struggle for comfort is very different from you doing it as an isolated out-group member. doubly so if you’re from an oppressive position such as a white/imp core citizen.)

similarly, treating white fiction as having the same revolutionary weight as real theory or real events. the handmaid’s tale and the hunger games are not political theory. at best, those are watered down fictionalizations of brutality BIPOC already experienced. at best, these should be treated as primers for getting interested in non-fiction revolution and human rights abuses. women having rights taken away and being forced to carry children isn’t “handmaid’s esq”. it is something that actually happened to the global indigenous community and/including enslaved black people and is rooted in that material reality.

1000% correct. and it isn't the userbase being 70% white, it's that they act aggressively disgusted and angry if anyone even mentions blackness and black culture or that racism and white privilege exist. If you so much as insinuate that one white woman posted something racist they will relentlessly dogpile and gangstalk you. Remember that blackout day started by black tumblr desperately BEGGING white people to post/rb black people once a year. But in response, people said "no, black people aren't aesthetic enough for my theme" or "no, you're being too political and black people are too serious a subject to post" but then they would make 1000 posts about how being trans is worse than racism. and if you even mention rap or r&b or hip-hop on here people will lose their damn minds. Every black woman I used to follow was either chased off the site, caved from the constant misogynoirism and hostility, or were so ignored by their "friends" that they left.
