Based on Szał uniesień (Frenzy of Exultations) by great polish painter Władysław Podkowiński. Original painting:
What the heaven , angel!?
Adam Young wouldve knocked some sense into crowley during that scene lemme tell you
So, I’ve been obsessed with Pratchett since I was 15. That’s 23 years for those keeping count. I just finished GO3 and these are my initial thoughts:
Crowley and Aziraphale becoming human: I don’t love, but you could argue that that was what he planned, and I would buy it. It does follow some of his themes.
But there is a knife’s edge that Pratchett balanced between fury and compassion. He absolutely loved humanity, but he also hated what humans did to each other out of malice, spite, or even laziness. Good Omens the novel was filled to bursting with that.
The end here lacked all of that somehow. God in S1 is unknowable, but God is S3 is just a capricious bitch who seems to have it out for Crowley specifically and through him Aziraphale. The viewer certainly gets angry at God, but the narrative seems to be that, while cold, she is doing the right thing and giving them their happy ending. And while Crowley expresses compassion for humanity, it falls on such deaf ears that the narrative doesn’t actually support that.
The closing sentiment seems to be that we can make their lives better by just erasing all their trauma and baggage. No. Sam Vimes did not pull himself out of the gutter and bodily hold himself out of it every day to be told that actually amnesia would be best. If you wanted to make them human: make them keep their memories. That would have been fine.
Terry would have Crowley and Aziraphale say “fuck you” to God and protect the earth as it was. The way they protected Job’s children. The way they did at Tadfield Airbase. Here they just throw in the towel and start a new universe. They accept their failure so quickly as to be farcical.
And you will never ever convince me that TERRY PRATCHETT would have allowed the words “a story shouldn’t live past its ending” to be spoken without the speaker being immediately eaten by a banshee.
maybe rereading one night in bangor would heal you
and once you're done with it immediately follow it up with in mixed company as dessert
we cannot never forget you, soft and only
Need more? How about Downpour?
nothing cheers me up like Hozier Missed a Trick
All right, but had you considered dream to me?
Yes to all, but - don't miss Don't Lose Your Cool.
I summon thee, Pray for us Icarus, to heal us all
Demon of the Lamp is one of my favorites
And if you haven't read it already for whatever reason, there's always Demonology and The Tri-Phasic Model Of Trauma: An Integrative Approach
Don't miss Upon the Place Beneath, with a much better take on how Crowley deals with the Slough of Despond.
If I may offer We Can't Keep Meeting Like This and What Are You Doing Here? because these are absolute gems
i’ll do it myself everyone applaud masterpiece slow show
Since Slow Show is a human AU I wasn't sure if it fit; all the others seem to involve Aziraphale and Crowley as an angel and a demon. If we can slide in AUs, in the house we remain, Old Vines, What We Make of It (Shotgun Wedding), and The Curve of Old Bones are all worth a read.
Or Be Nice, which I've read about 5 times. South Downs is my favorite actor AU. And if you want to see Aziraphale in Hell again, check out A Special Place in Hell, in which Aziraphale becomes the new king of Hell (as an angel).
This is so beautiful, but I HAVE to recommend my all time favourites.
Against Expectations is the first human AU that I read (and the first Ao3 fanfic that I read), and it's so perfect. Arrange marriage, genderfluid Crowley, Anathema bestie of Crowley... I've read it 5 times (that I can count...)
But then, I really had to mention May You Be Forgiven . This masterpiece, this beast, has helped me with my own issues after reading it. There's part 1 and 2, but OH it's so good.
I absolutely second Demonology, Slow Show, Pray for Us Icarus, Or Be Nice and so many others!
While we're on the big ones and the Human AUs, I will recommend Sit Tight, Take Hold by nieded.
OK well if we're going to talk about AUs than what about:
Waking Up Slow and Under Construction
Some of my favourites I have to recommend:
Two Shall Be One Flesh: Aziraphale takes a brief detour from Constantinople in the 13th century to check in on his eternal adversary. Accidents happen. Mistakes are made.
They learn a thing or two about the dangers of attempting to cohabitate in a single corporation. (13th century, rated T)
it's the light (it's the obstacle that casts it): The Patron Saint of London's LGBT Community is real, and he lives in Soho. (WW2, rated T)
Love Poems: talking dirty was invented by angels, it is the language of love. (S1, rated M)
Better Than Chocolate: After trying out something new together for the first time, Crowley has concerns. Aziraphale doesn't necessarily make them better. (Post S1, rated G)
Love Hath Made Thee a Tame Snake: He was the bloody Serpent of Eden, and he wasn’t going to stand for this kind of flagrant trespassing. (Post S1, rates M)
I am aghast that, among all these gems, no one has recommended my all time favourite fic yet, so here goes: Please read Anatomy 101 by Fyre (rated E) and have your life changed forever.
hurting ur friend with a really sad headcanon like
2023 me: Oh...well the worst case scenario was the 'Turning Human' ending, which if that is the worst then like that's not so bad, I don't like it but at least they're together...right?
2026 me:
2023 me: ...right?
2026 me: ....
2023 me: ...you're uh...you're scaring me a bit...
2026 me: go back to writing your fic.

It’s just that S2 introduced memory wipe as a punishment and S3 tried to tell us it’s a good thing.
Jim didn’t love Beelzebub. Gabriel did. He needed his memories for a reason. Anthony doesn’t know or love Aziraphale. He loves a completely different guy. Which is nice and all. But I wanted to see Aziraphale and Crowley happy. Safe. Free. I wanted them to stay in my universe. I thought we shared it!
I get what people mean about their dear ones when they lose memories. I care what people say about their own lost memories. I'd never say they were replaced by another person. But that's not at all what we are talking about here. It's a new universe with brand new people. (Which if determinism is not true and god is gone should not look like the old ones?)
And I am glad if you found comfort and happiness in S3! I wish I did too.
But to me Aziraphale and Crowley are gone - their love started the new universe and I am sure it was powerful enough to be everywhere and all that (I could have maybe even liked it if S3 was done better and I didn't get attached to Aziraphale and Crowley so much). It's just not the ending I craved. Or needed. Or find rewarding. As much as I like a deep philosophical conversation, I just wanted them to have one another. Safely. And for as long as they wished.
Happy birthday, serial Good Omens! Thank you for coming into my life. Thank you for giving me the strength to believe that the story I love so much has no ending.
I did a thing I guess
Im always like "i will not add my two cents. i will not add my two cents" but i cant lie the pennies are getting sweaty in my hand
it was all just one horrible nightmare crowley had. then he woke up in the cottage, wrapped in aziraphale’s arms.
Literally always take headphones with you. If you decide that you probably won't need them today, that's the devil talking. You will. You will
@sercezgazety
take your pick
The more I think about that ending, the more reasons it bugs me.
The newest one popped into my head as I was waking up, this morning.
The running theme of GO has always been to embrace who you are (Aziraphale's embracing of his love of creature comforts, and of a certain demon... Crowley's constant assertions that he's a demon who has no use for Hell, but still embraces minor acts of mischief... Adam's determination to stay in Tadfield, even when offered the entire world to rule... Maggie's love of a record shop that's essentially failing... And I could go on, but you get the point). But in the end, in that pub scene, what GO ended up saying, was "you can only get a happy ending if you become someone you're not." NONE of those people were actually the selves they'd been the whole series. Not one of them. Instead of finding happiness and peace as themselves, they had to become completely new people, to be happy??
I think that's why so many of us were so instantly bothered by it. The GO fandom has always been largely made up of queer and/or misfit people. Those society has deemed mostly "outside" the norm, at various points. GO told us we were accepted and lovable just as we are. It gave us the safety to explore who we actually were, through the lense of characters who were, themselves, unusual or outsiders. And then, in the end, it ripped away everything that provided safety and community for us, and said "you can only be happy if you conform to the status quo."
Excuse the fuck out of me?? Not just no, but HELL, no.
This is yet one more reason for me to ignore the existence of S3.
Today's vent:
