David picked up the Walkman, turning it every which way. “Oh, the tape’s just in the wrong direction.” He flipped the tape in the other way, closed it, and handed the headphones and cassette holder to America. “It’s a good thing most of the kids here know how to work this because…I absolutely don’t know how I did that.” He smiled and took a seat next to America. “What’re you listening to?”
America watched David carefully figure out the Walkman and the tape inside. This technology was beyond her comprehension, though she could see the appeal of portable music. “Huh. Good job, David,” she beamed, clapping him loudly on the back. “Actually, it’s not mine. I confiscated it from a student who was listening to it during class. Granted, it’s just PE, but still, they weren’t listening to a word I was saying,” she clarified. “Maybe we should play it to see what’s on it.”
