I had the honor to hear Kate Bornstein speak at PSU last night. Here is one of her comics that clearly illustrates how dangerous binaries are in all aspects of our lives. We are bred to believe everything is either/or, instead of the living fluid spectrum that life truly is. That's me! I got to spend yesterday with Alice, and we'll be adding more tree herbs in a couple of weeks. These are all herbs that I work particularly often with for rootsandcrowns, so I figured an homage to the plants with such a brilliant artist's work, truly appropriate. Love you, Alice!

By choosing integrity, I become more whole, but wholeness does not mean perfection. It means becoming more real by acknowledging the whole of who I am.

We waste so much energy trying to cover up who we are when beneath every attitude is the want to be loved, and beneath every anger is a wound to be healed and beneath every sadness is the fear that there will not be enough time. It’s like wearing gloves every time we touch something, and then, forgetting we chose to put them on, we complain that nothing feels quite real. Our challenge each day is not to get dressed to face the world but to unglove ourselves so that the doorknob feels cold and the car handle feels wet and the kiss goodbye feels like the lips of another being, soft and unrepeatable.
