A redraw of my old RWBY Necromancer AU
An idea that stemmed from how Weiss can summon the things she's killed.
The character of Monika in Doki Doki Literature Club is a modern iteration of The Little Mermaid, as originally written by Hans Christian Andersen: A character who falls in love not just for typical romantic reasons, but because the one they love represents a world they want to be a part of, because they view their own world as not as whole/fulfilling. However, they are never able to cross this barrier, being seen by their love interest as more of a curiosity, a distraction, a substitute in place of something better, a plaything. And in the end, they come to realize this world doesn't have a place for them, and sacrifice themselves for the happiness of the one they love. In this essay, I will
yo mr white did you hear this shit? they say Ulfric Stormcloak murdered the high king. Fuckin' shouted his ass apart
You know, when I see fictional characters who repress all their emotions, they're usually aloof and very blunt about keeping people at a distance, sometimes to an edgy degree—but what I don't see nearly enough are the emotionally repressed characters who are just…mellow.
Think about it. In real life, the person that's bottling up all their emotions is not the one that's brooding in the corner and snaps at you for trying to befriend them. More often than not, it's that friendly person in your circle who makes easy conversation with you, laughs with you, and listens and gives advice whenever you're upset. But you never see them upset, in fact they seem to have endless patience for you and everything around them—and so you call them their friend, you trust them. And only after months of telling them all your secrets do you realize…
…they've never actually told you anything about themselves.
Some of you have never worked in customer service and it shows.
OP is not describing an emotionally repressed person. OP is describing an emotionally mature person's public persona.
If someone never gets upset in front of you, or the other people in your circle, that does not mean they are “bottling up” their feelings. In fact, they could be talking shit about you to the husband they never told you about right now.
The fact that you know nothing about someone does not mean they are incapable of opening up to anyone.
It just means they don't trust you, specifically. . I’ve had plenty of acquaintances mistake my politeness and my good conversational skills for “a connection” and jump to the conclusion that we were much closer friends than we actually were. These same people would overshare about their personal lives to me, and they'd rarely notice that I never shared anything about my personal life in return.
People who are not familiar with my private persona often fail to recognize that I am wearing a public persona in front of them.
But my true friends can easily tell the difference between the "real" me and my public persona. .
In the real world, we usually only ever see people's public personas, unless they're very close friends or family. Fictional narratives, in contrast, tend to focus on characters' private lives.
It isn’t that fiction doesn't show emotionally repressed people "the way they really are."
It’s that people who don’t compartmentalize their public and private personas tend to be baffled by people who do, and don’t recognize what it is they’re seeing when this kind of compartmentalization is represented in fiction.
A lot of people can't tell the difference between emotional maturity and emotional repression, or the difference between polite friendliness and real friendship.
I love it when anons/guests find my works and kudo/leave reviews, but given the new revelation that Elon Musk is using bots to mine AO3 fanfiction for a writing AI without writer's permission, my works are now archive-locked and only available for people with an AO3 account.

what the fuck.
to archive lock multiple works at once:
go to your dashboard then “works”
click the “edit works” button
select all the works you want to lock
click on the “edit” button
scroll down to “visibility” and select “only show to registered users”
then “update all works”
this will hide your works from anyone without an archive of our own account
Looking at the notes and OP and there's a lot of telephone game goin' on. Some information missing from above that I want to put all in one place:
data scraping to train AI is really common and if you post things in public places you can expect machines to be fed it these days. nobody asks permission of you. even if they should. if it's on the internet it can be downloaded and will be downloaded and often repurposed/redistributed/repackaged/resold. even if it's behind log-in walls and paywalls.
this is not the first time for-profit AI has been trained on copyrighted works (x)
if this is true that Sudowrites has scraped Ao3, archive-locking all your existing works will not remove them from the dataset. archive-locking any subsequent fics may exclude those from future datasets.
however it is easy to simulate being logged on using a script (x)
this information is only a day old and yet to be confirmed beyond "seems fucking likely"
ao3 has been made aware of it and has requested people stop sending in support tickets about it
elon musk sure is a guy but he is not personally involved in this. he left openai, the research group that produced the tech used by sudowrites, in 2019 (x)
this is a very new field with developing legal precedent and the social and ethical concerns of AI trained on human labours to reproduce similar things for cheaper are not going to go away anytime soon. i hope more people get involved in the discussion because of this!
i understand otw has a legal fund so maybe fanfic will become a part of that case law. that would be neato
on a user by user basis, personally, i am sitting tight. i am unsurprised. the notion of stories made for free and out of passion being fed into a sausage maker to train software that can sell stories for cheaper than the rates of the humans who do get paid for it is distressing. nonetheless i am not going to archive-lock my fics at this time because probably 98% of my reading consumption was as a guest and i think if algorithms get our stories humans without accounts should too. i am also not confident it would change anything at this point. i respect anyone's decision to archive-lock their stories and understand the desire to do so. i am privately extremely relieved to be on the right side of wall bc two months ago i'd be wondering where all my half-read fics had gone hahaha
what day is it
always fucking some day or another around here
I don't think you guys get it. Since 1934, there have been 23 midterm elections.
In those, the president's party has only held or picked up senate seats 6 times.
But you guys. So many of those were with high presidential approval. Biden has around 42%
In the past hundred years, there has only been one other time when the president's party picked up seats in the senate while the president had sub-50% approval.
1982 under Reagan. He gained one seat.
It should be noted, Reagan also lost 26 seats in the House that year!
My guys. This wasn't just a break in the red wave. This was a historical election. This was a MASSIVE rebuke of the republican party. Everything in our history says they should've picked up quite a few senate seats and WAY more house seats. This was absolutely humiliating for them, and we really have Gen Z to thank. But thank ALL OF YOU who voted. This was INCREDIBLE.
nobody tears through library books quite as fast as a 12 yr old girl with no friends
Crunch culture isn't bad because it produces busted games, but it's nonetheless reasonable to connect the two phenomena because:
a. Learning how to recognise the external symptoms of crunch culture is important – publishers exercise tight information control about their employment practices, and there's often no other way to readily identify when it's occurring; and
b. It's been demonstrated time and time again that if you don't explicitly draw a line from a game's bustedness to its publisher's abuse of crunch time, folks will tend to conclude that the game is busted because the programmer are just lazy.

every once in a while i can’t help but think about how wild it is that some lesbian was like “I’m so fucking starved for representation that I don’t watch movies unless there’s at least one scene where two women aren’t talking about a man so I can pretend they’re lesbians for five seconds” and then another lesbian put that sentiment as a gag in a comic, and then straight women took it and ran with it as Official Criteria for Feminist Media and then other straight women got offended by it and now straight women just debate the merits of it back and forth forever while still ignoring lesbian representation (and lack thereof) just as much as they always did
