NYC Cyclists--Who just rode in that amazing lightning storm and sunset with me?

I'm so happy I had the opportunity to see that! I realized about half-way through my ride that was the kind of die I was willing to risk .. no worries! Got home safely!

How do you deal with the constant objectification and questions as to whether you're "really a cyclist" or "really a messenger" because you present femme?

I love this question! Although it’s an easy place to go in my head, I can’t get too concerned about what other people think. Where people are willing to cut me short because I’m a female who cycles, there are a lot of people who also give me extra credit. I think it really evens out in the end. I’m young, happy with my body, and love what I do. There will always be haters and people willing to question my integrity. The only thing that matters is that I’m honest with myself. I don’t feel the need to fight for my integrity. I just like to post about my world. If people want to question that—it’s their burden.

Today started off cold! My gloves were still wet from the rain last night so my hands froze 5 minutes into my ride and I could have ice skated over the Williamsburg Bridge at 7am (there were actually a couple inches of ice/frozen rain up there). 

I got out of work early and had the best vietnamese spring roll. I gave my college hockey sweater to a chilly homeless man and then I found a dollar on my way home. It looks like things are warming up!

How are you able to maintain balance while riding your bike during winter I tried it once and it did not work out too well.

I usually practice sliding out to get a feel for the terrain. Especially in the beginning of winter or when I haven’t ridden in those conditions for a while (ice, slush, snow, etc. all feel different). I also keep my clips loose so I can unclip quickly and I usually avoid the bike lane. It’s usually easier to ride in traffic where the snow is packed down by cars. Fixed gear is super fun in the snow because you can feel what you’re doing.
