when wriothesley is in the fortress of meropide (which is, frankly, all the time), he had his own set of rules. one of them was to never look at the clock, for two specific reasons. one - does he ever have the time to? two -
he's trying so hard not to count down the time he can finally land in your arms.
unfortunately, he broke that rule.
"your grace, more documents are here - um. a-are you-"
"just place them here," he said almost dismissively, hoping that his colleague tried not to pry any further.
wriothesley looked like he hadn't slept for days. his hair was disheveled, his already loosened tie was now discarded on the edge of his desk, his sleeves were now rolled up so high that more scars were now visible.
"okay...i'll just - let me know if you need anything else," the colleague replied, almost growing accustomed to the duke's demeanor as he walked away.
30 minutes. just 30 minutes to hold this archon forsaken pen. to sign off the last bit of documents before he could get that bit of momentary freedom.
and through it all, the duke's handwriting was still readable. it makes people wonder how a man like him, constantly moving back and forth, handling affairs left and right, manages to go through it all like a breeze.
20 minutes. come on, wriothesley, he thought to himself, sweat almost dripping down his jaw. has it gotten hot in here all of a sudden?
10 minutes. he sees it. he can practically vision your figure gracefully ascending the stairs in his office, greeting him with a smile so bright it lit up your face. those pleading eyes, begging him for more and more kisses.
as disciplined as this man was, he had his limits.
5 minutes. he was practically buried in paperwork, cursing under his breath for continuously looking at the clock. if he finishes now, he worries less later!
the sweet, sweet sound of that knock on his doors. he finished the last batch of his papers, setting them aside carefully before sinking into his chair.
how wrong he was, wanting to complete each and every affair he had. paperwork can leave your muscles drooping.
"wriothesley," you cooed, only to see half his face popping out from behind his desk.
as you rushed over, you couldn't help but giggle.
"goodness.... rough day?"
wriothesley's heart was jumping for joy upon your arrival, but all he could do was adjust his position back in his chair, sighing deeply and holding his arms out to you.
"....oh, sweetheart," he muttered as he pulled you into his lap, sinking into your soft embrace.
"i wanna stay like this forever."
"i have all the time in the world, your grace."
as you softly ran your fingers through his locks, he set his gaze upon you, his tired eyes admiring every feature of yours. taking this opportunity, you placed a kiss on his forehead, earning a soft murmur of approval from him.
"you looked at the clock, didn't you?"
"bingo. i think i need to take it away from my office."
you broke out into a fit of giggles as wriothesley pulled himself away from you a little, feigning hurt from your reaction.
"you're always free to, you know."
"but it's a gift from you, darling. i can't think of anywhere else to put it. except for when we do get a home together someday."
"which is why this is the perfect place," you replied.
a reply so quick that it made wriothesley look at you with a puzzled expression. it was only then did it dawn on him, his eyes widening upon realization.
"you're cruel," he stated, his mouth left agape.
"and you're my favorite, wriothesley."
