I can’t stress enough how irritating I find it when Shostakovich or any other composers are just, “uwufied”. Like, you can do what you want but it just makes what I’m researching feel useless and, to be fair, annoys me. Like take Shostakovich. I’m not going to say who, but many people on Twitter do amazing fanart of composers, and that’s great! It’s always nice to see different people’s styles and takes on the composer. However, there are some which are… let’s say questionable. I’ve seen Shostakovich drawn as a maid catboy and other stuff which I don’t feel would be appropriate to say. He’s also been shipped with other composers (even stalin, like bro what?! That literally defies all sense of history surrounding the two!). It is then when I feel kind of uncomfortable. You can ship composers, you can do whatever you want, but I’m just not like really into that or even have the right judgement at times. But when it comes to Shostakovich, that’s a whole other thing.

See, he already has 2 kids, a wife who is still alive and the man literally died like, what? 48 years ago? That’s the thing, it just feels. Weird, even wrong to me to ship Shostakovich with anyone. I’m not saying you shouldn’t but don’t take it to the level where it gets… too much. I love Shost so much and practically research and play his music on a daily basis, so all the shipping and other things related kind of feel like a slap in the face to the research that not just me, but a thousand other scholars have done upon his life and works. Given there are numerous controversies surrounding some sources as well as multiple viewpoints by different researchers and authors.

Anyways, that’s all I have to say. Also, please don’t take this the wrong way, you lot do you I just wanted to say my opinions on the matter. In no way am I trying to hate or attack someone else’s opinion (and I’m really sorry if it came across like that.) This is just what I think and I hope it’s not too critical :)
