mixlyra:
It is an absolute, personal rule for Lyra–to never refuse anyone who offers her anything related to sweets. Sweets were the only thing that wasn’t tainted in her memory by the emotions and feelings of pain and despair, although as to why she felt that way–Lyra couldn’t exactly remember the specific details. But that wasn’t something to worry about now. Her pale but lithe fingers glided along the cup of hot chocolate as she pulled the sweet drink to her front, glancing periodically at crown as she sipped on the hot chocolate.
“If you’re talking about my doppelganger, I’ve said this many times to others throughout the entire course of the week. I may not have my memories before my eighteenth year, but I am not whoever this Bae Jooeun is.” She scowled lightly into her hot chocolate, smacking her lips as the sweet taste stuck to her tongue and seeped down her throat. “And of course, no one wants to kill willingly…but there has to be some that does it.” She paused for a moment, his words causing her to straighten suddenly at the errant thought that appeared in her mind.
Why had she wanted to become a hitman in the first place? Her head throbbed suddenly, and Lyra’s palm rubbed her temples as she gritted her teeth, shifting uncomfortably as she forced her thoughts away from that question that was visibly causing her some mental dissonance and pain.
Why? Her brain pounded in her skull, a low groan slipping from behind her lips as she slammed her head back lightly against the wall, using the pain from the knock to the back of her head to momentarily distract from the throbbing of her mind right in the front.
“Me? Being more popular than the boss himself? That’s dangerous words to be said.” Lyra couldn’t help but chuckle, curling into her usual comfortable getup of shirt and jeans that she wore within the confines of Hydrus company.
“As for the choice of being a hitman…couldn’t you have decided not to take up that job?” She took a glance at her own two hands for a moment, a slow realisation dawning lightly on her. “I think…as for me, I didn’t really have a choice.” Lyra sucked in a pained breath as her temple throbbed yet again. “Alright, can we talk about something else? All this talk about finding the reason behind why we became hitmen is giving me a headache.” She grimaced lightly. “But that doesn’t mean that I’m not interested in listening to the story behind why you became one in the first place.” She smirked lightly up at Crown. “Maybe if your story is interesting enough, I’ll share you some details of mine. Or at least, what I can remember of it anyway. Compared to yours, I’m pretty sure my own story pales in comparison.”
jaehyun just nodded his head, pursing his lips as if he believed her, or at least thought about the option of genuinely believing her. the fact that himself had moment of his life he had forgotten for a second or two, but came back and hit him twice as hard.. it was hard to believe. however, he didn’t voice it out loud, instead he inhaled from his cigarette, slow and deep and let out a big puff of smoke into the still chilly morning.
hydrus was a weird place. a place for the wicked if you asked crown, and they all fit in just perfectly. he knew very few who maybe enjoyed this life, those who weren’t in hydrus, but he had grown up here. his father was long gone, his mother he hadn’t seen in more than a decade, he was left to stay with. maybe soojin would like to move away from here someday.. maybe. but they both seemed so busy, jaehyun doubted that would ever happen. so instead, he inhaled from the cigarette again, eyeing the way lyra just slammed her head against the wall with a raised brow.
“if you have a headache, i say don’t slam your head against a wall, won’t help, trust me.“ he uses his dry sense of humor, eyeing he quickly from head to toe, smoke exhaling from his lips as he spoke. maybe it was too early to have these types of talks, but the female’s wittiness made him chuckle, closing his eyes and leaning against the wall, humming even.
“are you calling me a liar now, lyra? i know i kill people, but come on. that’s a low blow.“ jaehyun jokes, looking back at her with a wide grin. he lied about very few thing: his family and his job. that was it. some things were better left in the dark than having people realize what monster he was at times.
her question makes him laugh, short and sarcastic as he stops mid drag, eyes rolling “and what? be a fucking drug runner? fuck that.” he says, because it was simple as that. being a drug runner was hella risky, even if he was a stupid 16 year old that didn’t look suspicious, he was a lowlife for hydrus. him being sentenced to prison wouldn’t be anything big. however, him being sentenced to prison now, he was sure there were a number of people who would pull a lot of strings to get him out. everything had a price to be paid, jaehyun has been paying his.
when lyra admits his talk gives her a headache, he placed the cigarette in between his lips, digging into one of the pockets of his black leather jacket and pulling a bottle of pills. painkillers, to be precise, and extended his hand to her, in case she wanted any “join the club of the regular headache club.” he jokes, dryly as he mumbles over the cigarette. “honestly, that doesn’t sound like a good deal to me you know? i probably remember mow than you, you can’t give a lot and receive a bit.” jaehyun jokes, this time a bit more lively as he takes the cigarette out from between his lips and hums.
“lets say i never joined hydrus, i was born in it. that sound like an interesting start?“ he asks,. inhaling one last time from the barely there cigarette and finally dropping it to his feet, stepping onto it to make sure the flame had gone off.
"Alright, now that just sounds so much more interesting than how you originally put it." Lyra shifted interestedly in her seat, stopping her foolish headbanging and giving crown every bit of her attention. "And fine. If you don't find this all lucrative, then tell me at least what you'd like in exchange for this information that you're feeding me." She flaps her hands lightly. "I mean you could totally take advantage of the fact that I don't really care what I'm spilling to you and dig whatever you can out of me. I wouldn't mind, anyway." Lyra's allegiance was never to Hydrus, nor Myeongcho, nor her own self.
Her allegiance was something deeper, that ran far back and out of Myeongcho, to a little island filled with experiments and torturous operations she vaguely remembered, called The Facility.
"And well, I never wanted to be more popular than our boss." She scowled slightly, crossing her arms defiantly as she huffed in Crown's direction astutely. "I came in here wanting to be normal, and everyone gave me everything but normal." She complained to the older male with a light huff. " And even I can tell that some part of you ain't believing about this doppelganger thing that I said it to be." She paused for a moment, thinking if she should divulge her next words to the male so apparently.
"You know, that doppelganger thing is all a lie." She admits, not in the slightest bit sheepish as she shrugged her shoulders off handedly. "It was the most convenient reason that I could ever come up with to make people stop hounding me about Bae Jooeun, and so I took it the first chance I got, and sold the idea like hell was chasing on the heels of my feet." She tilted her face up to Crown's expectantly." So now yours, since I've shared with you a secret of mine. The more you tell me about yourself and the greater the worth of the secret, I promise I'll tell you a secret of equivalent worth in exchange. " She promised, dark eyes crystal clear and honest. Lyra was always one to hold to her own words, and that said the same for everything that she promised.
