Kick's 2025 Hannibal Fic Rundown

It's been a rough year, but I'm pretty proud of what I've managed to write.

Current WIP: The Only Form of Permanence (E, 32k words and counting) A time travel make-it-worse fic set in multiple versions of season one. I've legit read at least four books and several essays researching this one, and I'm having a fuckin blast with it—worth every minute of trying to decipher Borges and Bergson. 😂

Longest fic: Keeping Myself Alive Through Your Empathy (E, 34.5k words) Second part of the Caches series, a post-fall recovery fic featuring a serial killer OC and also Villanelle because I love her and why the fuck not. Also lots of Will topping because it's hot. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Most Cathartic Fic: To Her the Hunted, Not the Hunter (T, 11.8k words) Season 2, post-BSHCI with Trans Will Graham, disability themes, and confronting mommy issues. Had big big feelings about this one, and I'd say it's the (completed) fic I'm most proud of.

Aaaaand the smut!

Fling Yourself Down and Writhe (E, 3k) Bondage fic with some grimy clothed frotting.

For Pleasure Fall (E, 3.4k) Will Graham gets horny about leather and silk.

Next year I plan to keep up my posting schedule for my current WIP and hopefully throw some more smut into the mix! I also would like to wrap up a TMA fic that I've neglected this year (sorry fellow TimGerry fans—it's not abandoned 💜).

You actually cannot skip to being good at a creative endeavour that you haven't put much practice into. You cannot trick your way out of the 'knows that your work is not what you want it to be but don't know how to improve it' stage by planning or reading or talking about it really really hard. At some point you just have to craft through it until your brain finds it's own unique way back to the 'everything I make slaps' stage and be prepared to start the cycle all over again. You just have to make that project you're excited about slightly less good than you want it to be. (Says this standing in a pool of blood and covered in blood and also coughing up a little blood)

Funny that the stereotypical cynic is an idealist who aged out of it. In my experience, the reverse is true. I was an extreme cynic as a teenager and then I noticed how profoundly limiting it was, and also that "cynics are cool and smart" was a message that was being constantly reinforced by corporate media for some reason.

I also think that the present era has proven that authoritarian leaders don't actually want a population of wide-eyed idealists, they want a population of jaded assholes who are convinced that everyone is lying, any resistance is either a scam or doomed to failure, and nothing can ever get better.
