my personal little headcanon is that kris's light world knife is their dark world shield. both go completely unacknowledged in the world you don't see them in, in contrast to things like kris's dark world sword, which is stated to be their light world pencil. the shield is never spoken about—it has nothing to do with their armor, either, and it never seems to change. i also strongly believe that kris's knife, in the light world, is a defensive tool and not an offensive one, and it just makes sense to me that it would manifest as a shield in the dark world. AND the most memorable uses of kris's shield in the dark world are when they use it to defend susie.... the only person kris has voluntarily and happily just handed over their knife to, blade-first.

This is a tried and true tactic and one of the main reasons intersectional theory was conceived

In her founding essay for intersectional theory, Demarginalizing the Intersection of Race and Sex, Kimberlé Crenshaw begins by describing a case where Black women brought a lawsuit against General Motors for discrimination, but they were told by the courts that the hiring practices weren't discriminatory because only Black women were affected. Since Black men were being hired it didn't count as racism, and since white women were being hired it didn't count as misogyny. This case is an example of the intersection of oppression which would later become known as misogynoir

The same thing is happening when laws specifically targeting trans women are ruled not discriminatory. Since they don't target trans men they aren't considered transphobic, and since they don't target cis women they aren't considered misogynistic. Just like in the case described by Crenshaw, the intersection between two different types of oppression—in this case, transmisogyny—is being ignored in order to defend discriminatory practices

The shortcomings of an either/or understanding of oppression in cases like these is one of the main reasons Crenshaw outlined for intersectionality, to address the discrimination faced by people who exist at the intersections of multiple different types of oppression. We can't address this discrimination if we pretend that it doesn't exist

Transmisogyny is an intersection of oppression that needs to be addressed, on both a structural and interpersonal level. You can't refuse to ally with marginalized women on the compounded discrimination they experience at that intersection and then chastise them for not showing you "solidarity" on the issues that affect you too
