Mako’s unbroken spotty sides are so mesmerizing. Absolutely adore her! Plus she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body.

words of wisdom from wikipedia this evening
One time a friend told me that if she wanted to have a chill night she would come to me and ask for tea and a book to read. I didn’t like tea at the time, but I always made sure my cupboards had them in case she needed a quiet night. One time I told my boss that I loved oranges, but couldn’t peel them because of my nails. For a year he made sure to peel me one at least once a week. Once my friends gave me a made up superlative of “most likely to have a pen they could borrow” and ever since I’ve made sure I always carry a pen with me. A long time ago, my high school librarian told me that no one would care what my grade in my sophomore chemistry class was if I’m bringing them doughnuts and asking them about their day.
Sometimes friendship is about carrying pens and peeling oranges. But the point is, surrounding yourself with people who you want to do the little things for. The point of it all is bringing in the doughnuts because you’ve found the people who deserve the doughnuts.
And I’m so fucking lucky, and I don’t always say it or even think it. Because I have friends who send me letters and who told me when the cafeteria at work had chopped tomatoes and who want to watch Scream with me and it just hits me sometimes that this world can do the ugliest things to people, but as long as I still have a friend who will point out dogs on the sidewalks to me then I have something amazing to live for. And as long as I have pals who I want to make peppermint bark for, then I have a reason to keep pushing this world to be better.
During the 2019 flu season in Canada, 46k people were diagnosed with influenza. That's not people who "felt sick", that's people who went to their doctor or emergency, had a test done, and were told "yup, that's the flu".
Of those 46k, 2000 had symptoms severe enough to be hospitalized so they could be monitored.
Of those 2000, 600 ended up in ICU, connected to machines to breath for them.
Of those 600, 200 died.
2019 had a fairly average flu season.
During the 2020 flu season, that was 69. Total. Zero hospitalization. Zero ICU. Zero deaths.
The 2021 flu season is almost over and since people were "more comfortable" this year not wearing masks where they should have been the numbers are higher, but still only in the hundreds of cases, with zero deaths to date.
If anyone tries to tell you masks don't work, there are statistically at least 400 people who did not die of the flu who prove otherwise.
WE PROBABLY ELIMINATED TWO STRAINS OF INFLUENZA IN HUMANS. WE CUT TRANSMISSION SO MUCH THE STRAIN DIED OUT BECAUSE IT COULDN’T SPREAD TO PEOPLE.
WEAR THE GOD DAMNED MASKS.

genuinely cant stop thinking about whatever early human first looked a literal wolf full in the face and thought domestication would be fun but ALSO cant stop thinking about the ENTIRE early human tribe that absolutely did NOT think to stop them

Slightly related: I read a book by Rick McIntyre, who was official Wolf Guy at Yellowstone Park for 25 years (and studied wolves for 40 yrs total). He describes how, when they’re alone, wolves—both adults and pups—will pick up sticks or bones or bits of animal skin and toss them around to entertain themselves, the way you might toss a ball up and down. They essentially play catch by themselves.
So if wolves do this by themselves, in nature, that means that we saw them playing this game and thought “huh, that wolf enjoys fetching the stick it’s throwing for itself, maybe I could throw it further and it would like that more?” And thus began our two species’ mutual favourite game to play together
But the point is that they invented fetch
they made fetch happen
