Overcoming addiction

Today officially marks one year clean from intravenous heroin and crack cocaine abuse. I don't talk about this at all, it is a very touchy subject for me. While I was abusing, I hid out in sketchy motels and dirty apartments. Nobody knew where I was, and I kept it that way on purpose. I knew how people would judge me if they knew I was a scumbag junkie. I used people for money, and didn't give a shit who I hurt. It took me forever to realize I was hurting myself. And when I did, I didn't care at first. I was just waiting for the hit that would kill me. If it wasn't for the one person who stayed supportive and got me the fuck out of there, I'm sure I'd be dead by now. He loved me enough to see past the bad, he saw the little bit of good I had left in me and clung to it. He stayed by my side while I was writhing in pain, puking, shaking, and sweating from withdrawal. Don't ever fucking give up on someone just because they use heroin. Your support could save their life.
