playing through legends ZA as an alternate universe Syldyr has been so healing. his family is alive, the worst his dad can actually be is like. evil team leader bad instead of the literal god of murder, and he gets to go on a bunch of adventures and make new friends both Pokemon and human alike!!

it’s also made me realize that pokemon might literally be the best universe for a guy who loves animals and forms deep bonds with them, loves to study them out in the wild, and also trains them to fight together in battle

#beast master ranger actually just secret pokemon master???#he’d literally be a pokemon field researcher with the battle prowess of like. Red.#I’ve never had a universe and career change be so seamless for a character before #it’s just making me love this little au more though #it’s so cute to see a young Syldyr running around catching pokemon and battling with them 😭😭#his starter was chikorita because it reminded him of home <3 #Syldyr posting

The two best reasons to ship anything are:

1.Incredible deep and detailed narrative themes. The parallels that seem to hit just right, the narrative foils that they can be to each other, the intricate dynamic that's both extremely complex and easily understood. The juxtaposition between something that's harsh and undoubtedly toxic, with the softer undertones, the parts where you read in-between the lines and find a mutual feeling of loneliness from both parts, their intrinsic understanding of each other comes from the mere fact that they're each others mirrored reflections and shadows. In the end both sides will be together forever, and you as an audience can clearly see their tragedy laid out before in a path that blurs pure anguish and tender romance

2.It would be so fucking funny

#Syldyr post-bg3-campaign when he runs into the past that had been taken from him by years of torture and manipulation #and everything in him is hell-bent on those memories staying hidden from his conscious mind #a past buried so far down in his psyche that he’d thought the flashes and glimpses of it must have been a dream #and the man that has always been the apex predator to those who know him #sharp and dangerous and strong even at his lowest points #suddenly becomes stricken with constant paranoia like the devil is always on his heels (it was. at one point)#and shows a crippling level of vulnerability (weakness. to him. he wasn’t ever strong enough to best it.)#he’s jumping at shadows and barely sleeping because something’s coming for him (it had before.)#but nothing is actually there #factually there is no danger #the shadows are his past traumas rearing their heads and his mind and body are slave to fear beaten into him #so he lashes out and pushes the people close to him away #and his friends and lovers are at a loss with how to help and comfort him #because this is a side of him they’ve never seen (a side he had just barely glimpsed during their time in Baldur’s Gate)#and he can’t even articulate what’s happening in him well enough to bridge that gap #and it truly is the role reversal of predator becoming prey #syldyr #anyway. im totally normal about this guy
