You're the light he needed, the thing he fears losing most.
He has lost a lot of things in his life. His leg, his wife a few years later, feared he was going to lose Robby. But he knew if he lost you it would be the thing that finally breaks him.
You had moved in next door two years ago, he had just gotten back from night shift when he saw you moving in. He introduced himself, you gave him homemade cookies three days later. You needed help building your bed, he brought the tools.
It was simple, a welcome distraction from the hospital. He was older, a change of pace from the twenty something guys you met at bars or through friends.
Month ten is when it started to shift more, you had shown up at his door, tears on your cheek from a date that went horribly. He dried them, ordered food for you both, and never asked about it after.
Jack lost track of time with you, lost himself with you.
For his birthday you decorated his apartment with the spare key he gave you when you had let maintenance in for him. You had balloons, a banner, and a small cake that read “Happy Birthday Jack”. That was also the first night it went beyond lingering looks, delicate touches that seemed less and less necessary.
In the morning you hadn’t left, you were still in his shirt, hair falling all over his pillow, his comforter pressing against your cheek, back to his chest, peaceful.
The next time it happened you had invited him over for dinner. The table had been set, food was eaten, and dishes were cleaned.
And at some point distance ceased to exist, and your lips brushed him with a softness that he never knew could exist. His hand found the curve of your back, guiding you closer. His fingers danced across you as he let his hands explore you.
Your hands found their homes, one in his short hair, the other his jaw. You angled your head against his, lips parting when his tongue swiped them.
Jack took care of you, warming you up before doing anything. He loved whispering sweet praises in your ear while pressing soft kisses over your skin. He wanted you to know exactly how he feels.
He never snapped, never yelled, never raised his voice in frustration.
He always made you smile, wiped your tears if you cried, kissed you like he would die without it.
It was a random night off when he first said he loves you. You were tucked against his side on the couch while a movie played. It wasn’t anything over the top, just said quietly in your ear.
He had been scared for so long that he wouldn’t be able to love someone the way he had loved his wife. And to an extent he didn’t, but it was because this time it was different. You were different. You were the light he needed.
He didn't flat out ask you to move in, just left a few tabs open to houses in that neighborhood you had liked, the one you drove past after a date. It was a three bedroom place, a nice kitchen, big yard. No pressure on what comes next. That's how things are for him now. He wanted whatever you did.

Warnings: Smut, but like he is doing things to her.
Note: My once in a blue moon post brought to you by my friend breifly referencing ' The First Time'.
“I traveled the world, but it got me nowhere.” Bob whispered in your ear. His arms were wrapped around you, your back pressed against his chest. “Nothing could ever compare to you, baby. You brought color to my world. It gave me meaning.”
He turned your head, placing a soft kiss to your lips before pushing his tongue into your mouth. It started slow, like he was drawing the moment out. “You’re an angel, my north star.” he murmured against your lips. His lips trailed down your jaw and neck, his hands pushing your shirt up as they started to explore your body.
You let out a soft whine followed by his name, a needy plea. You felt him smirk against your skin, a low rumble sending vibrations against your skin. “Bobby.” you breathed again, squirming against him.
“Yes, pretty girl? Use your words." He murmured against your neck, His hand cupped your breast, massaging it, fingers pinching at your nipple, earning another moan from you. “That's right, let me hear you.” Your head fell against his shoulder as his hands kept up their movements.
“Lets take these off you.” he whispered, moving his hands to push your pajama shorts and panties off before moving to pull your shirt off, leaving you bare in his lap. He pressed kisses down your neck, brushing your hair to the side before nipping your shoulder. “So beautiful, so soft, so mine.”
He ran his hands over your body, down your sides with a feather light touch before his hands found your thigh, pulling them apart before dipping a hand between them, fingers sliding between your folds. “You’re so wet baby, all for me.” he brought his fingers to your clit, pressing soft circles against the sensitive bud.
“Fuck, Bobby.” you murmured “Feels so good.”
He moved his hand to your mouth. “Open,” he murmured, pushing two fingers into your mouth. You obeyed his command, parting your lips. When he pulled them out of your mouth he brought them back between your legs, pressing them inside you. You let out a whine at the sting of the sudden stretch. He gave you a few seconds to adjust to him before he started to pump his fingers inside of you. He knew exactly how to make you feel good, it was second nature at this point.
His built up his pace, stopping for a few moments just to push off your release before starting again. He kept it up until you were fully squirming in his arms, a mix of moans, his name, and needy whines leaving you.
“Bo-bobby.” you gasped, fingers digging into his bicep. “Please, please baby, need to come.”
He moved a hand to your neck, applying light pressure as he curled his fingers inside you. It only took a few thrusts of his fingers before your vision started to blur and your release tore through you. He whispered soft praises in your ear as he helped you ride out your release. “That's it baby, such a good girl for me.” When he finally pulled his fingers out he brought them up, pressing them in your mouth like before. “Suck.” he murmured, and you did. He watched you intently, heat in his eyes. When you pulled back there was a soft pop. In an instant his mouth was on yours again, moaning into the kiss. “You’re a fucking drug, baby.”

A/N- When I wrote this the vibe for Gibbs is similar to how he acts at the end of season 7 episode 23 when he is taking to the lawyer. It seems really specific but gives an idea for the vibe.
“Was any of it true?” The anger you tried to hide was boiling inside you. You thought you meant something to him. That it was real and not pretend. But here you were, standing in his living room feeling like a fool.
“You knew what this was. It was fun y/n, nothing more. I don’t know what made you think this would be anything but that.” Gibbs seemed like his normal emotionless self. Hell by the looks of it he seemed more annoyed you were bothering him with this conversation
“For months you would get mad if a guy even so much as looked in my direction. Tony brought me coffee and you dismissed him over some bullshit thing he didn’t even do. Mcgee gave me his coat after mine got fucked chasing down a perp and you ignored him for the rest of the case. So nothing my ass Jethro. You want to act like it was nothing but I know that deep down you felt something.” That was your breaking point. You grabbed your stuff before leaving his home, slamming the door on the way out.
~~~~~
“Hey y/n, everything good?” Mcgee gave you a questioning look.
“I’m fine.” You snapped.
“Ohhkay.” Mcgee’s seemed shocked at the outburst.
“Fuck. Sorry Mcgee. I had a rough night. I'm better now, some things have been cleared up.” You smiled back.
“Well if you want a different kind of rough, let me know.” You Didn't see Tony walk up behind you, his comment making you jump in your seat.”Here, brought you coffee.”
“Thank you Tony.” You shot him a flirty smile. Tony winked back at you before sitting at his desk.
Gibbs was watching the entire interaction play out from his desk. He knew what you were trying to do. The remarks of a rough night, the flirty look at Tony. You were trying to get under his skin. He hated it. Not just what you were doing but the fact that it was working.
It had been a few days since the moment you had in Gibbs’ living room. There hadn’t been any new cases the past few days, so the team was catching up on paperwork. Disrupting the silence, Gibbs slaps a hand on your desk.
“Can I help you?” You don’t even bother looking up, already knowing who it is.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Gibbs snapps through gritted teeth. Irritation clearly written across his face.
“Work Gibbs. I have a job to do and that's what I plan on doing.” You still hadn’t looked up from your computer.
“Agent l/n, I expect you to look at me when I’m talking to you.” His outburst drew the attention of everyone around. Questionable faces wondering what the hell was happening.
“Careful Jethro, people might think you have emotions, wouldn't want that to happen.” You looked up at him, clearly annoyed with his presence. Your quip had also clearly pissed him off.
“Leave.” His voice had a bite to it.
“Why? You're the one who came over to my desk, got annoyed I was focused and not looking up at you, and now you want me to leave? I get it, you're the boss man, but I still deserve respect. So give me one valid reason that I need to leave, aside from hurting your “feelings”.”
“Y/n-” Zive tried cutting in before things got more heated.
“Thank you but I’ve got this Ziva. I'm not scared of an emotionally immature man who thinks he can stab me with his words like pins. You want to act all big and bad, but we both know what you are.” You could hear a pin drop with how quiet it was.
“Thats it agent l/n. You need to leave, and until you can act like an adult don't feel the need to come in.” Gibbs was pissed. At this point he was practically yelling.
“Gladly. I would rather be anywhere but near the smallest man who ever lived.” With that you grabbed your bag, collected what you would need to finish your work from home and started toward the elevators.
~~~~~
Gibbs knew he had fucked up. Both in front of everyone and during the original fight. He had cared. He loved to show you off, but always made sure nobody the two of you knew could see. He was a private man, he told himself. But looking back you're the only person he hid. He felt ashamed. You were younger, happier, all the things he wasn't you were.
And now here he was, at your front door. He straightened his stace before knocking on the door. At first he thought you might not be home, but that thought was whipped away when he saw your frame in the open door. He heard you scoff, before asking him what he was doing there.
“I wanted to apologize.” He stated with a small hint of softness.
“Really?” You were calling his bluff.
“Yes, I had no right to yell at you in front of everyone. We should've talked privately.” You rolled your eyes at his statement.
“Yeah I tried that with you, remember? What was what started thin. I wanted to talk and you acted like it was nothing. I'm over it. I can deal with arguments, but being pretty much getting told I was delusional for believing that we had something killed any spark I had.” You meant every word.
“I’m trying here y/n.” His plea fell on deaf ears.
“Next time don't think “I’m sorry” will fix all your problems. You're a grown man Gibbs, act like it.”
“Its always the dramatics with you isn't it?” You scoffed at his remark. “Listen, I meant what I said. What we had, it was great. I’m sorry I said it was only fun. I had feelings for you, but we both knew it wouldn’t last.”
“Why not? Was it not fun once it wasnt forbidden? Once we were seen together was the thrill gone?” You thought back on all the times he would make excuses not to be seen with you. You felt stupid.
“Don't act like you didn't know that this was only meant to be between the two of us.” He knew he was pushing your buttons, but he kept going.
“Are you that ashamed of me? Years of friendship, months of passion, and after that you still hide me away. I don't want to be some secret.” You wanted to smack his chest, cause the same pain he caused you.
“Do you not understand what would happen if they knew? How many rules I broke every time we were together?” He was yelling at this point.
“You know what the saddest part was? I would have died for you, but instead I just died inside. And you deserve prison but you won't serve the time.” You felt hot tears fall from your eyes. The realization you allowed yourself to cry over him fueled your anger. “It's over Gibbs. No second chance. No “it's different this time”. And no more acting like I’m nothing. We still work together. And as much as I would love to say "Good riddance", I love my job too much. I will take punishment for the show he had in the office, but I will not let you take my career.”
He didn’t say anything, he just looked at you, trying to read your expression. Without saying anything you walked to the door, opening it. A silent tell for him to leave. Taking in a slow deep breath you turn to face him. “Leave Gibbs, please.”
“I understand you're hurt y/n, and I know I'm the reason. I will still have your back, and I will still be your boss. But for both our sakes, I think it's best we keep the rest of the details between the two of us.”. You watched him walk out your door, down your steps to his car, and drive away from your home, shutting the door when you could no longer see him. And just like that it was over. No more late nights after cases where you end up in bed together, mornings shared over fresh coffee, and one less friend. Maybe some day the two of you could be friends again, but as for now that wasn’t something either of you wanted, or more realistically could handle.
Summary: Alone time with Rip is few and far between these days...When your daughter stays with her Uncle Kayce for the night, you finally get alone time with your husband.
A/n: This was requested by @elenavampire21 ! Thank you for your request, I had a blast making it a reality for you! And I also want to thank @momentaryescape for helping me with this!
The familiar sound of Rip groaning woke you from your sleep as your 4 year old daughter, Hallie, climbed on top of him. He picked her up and placed her between the two of you with a tired chuckle. It was early in the morning, but this was the normal routine between your little family. Hallie would wake up before either of you and always came into your shared room to wake you both up.
“The munchkin is up.” Rip chuckled in his gruff morning voice.
“Then we are to.” You said with a tired laugh as you sat up in bed.
Hallie was looking at you with those big hazel eyes that looked exactly like Rip’s. You smiled softly and picked her up to get out of bed, placing her on your hip as you stood up. Rip got up soon after and started getting ready for his work day, meeting you in the kitchen as you started making your daughter breakfast.
“Where is daddy going?” Hallie asked as she ran up to you.
“Daddy is going to work, munchkin. I gotta go help with the new horses” Rip told Hallie as he crouched down to get level with her, gently poking her nose with his finger.
“Can I go with you, Daddy?” She looked up at Rip, big eyes pleading with him.
“We can go see Daddy and the horses after you eat your breakfast, Sweetheart.” You responded after Rip looked at you for an answer.
Rip kissed Hallie’s forehead before sending her to the table. He fully stood up and made his way over to you, running his hands down your arms. He leaned down and left a kiss to your lips before he grabbed his cowboy hat and walked out the door to go to work.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You arrived with Hallie at the stables a little while later. Rip was standing outside of the round pen watching Ryan work with a horse. Hallie let go of your hand and ran to her dad, climbing up on the round pen to get a better look at the horse. You smiled softly when Rip put his hand on her back to keep her steady while he pointed at Ryan and the horse.
As you watched Hallie giggling to Rip you felt someone come up next to you. You looked over and saw Lloyd standing next to you. He watched Rip and Hallie, a small smile peaking through his signature mustache. Lloyd was like a grandpa to Hallie, a father figure to you and Rip.
“He sure is a good dad.” Lloyd told you, glancing over at you for a second.
“He really is.” You replied, smiling at Lloyd.
“So, when are you two giving me another grandkid?” He asked, fully turning to face you.
You let out a soft laugh at his question.
“Hopefully soon. It’s been so busy around here so we haven’t gotten much alone time. But we’ve been trying when we can.” You said to him, looking over at Rip who was talking happily with your daughter.
Lloyd gave you a smile and a gentle pat on the shoulder before Hallie came running over to you.
“Mama! Can we ride the horsies?” Hallie asked, pulling on your pant leg.
“Of course we can, Sweetie! Come on, let’s go get a horse.” You smiled down at your daughter, taking her small hand in yours to lead her to the stables.
Once you got to the stables, you saddled up your horse Blaze. He was good with kids and would be a great fit for Hallie. You led Blaze out of the stables with Hallie on your hip, leading Blaze to the other round pen.
You lifted Hallie up and gently placed her on Blaze, making sure to keep your hand on her back to steady her. Hallie giggled when you made a clicking sound with your tongue to get Blaze to start walking.
Rip watched carefully while Blaze walked around the round pen with Hallie on his back. He knew Hallie wouldn’t get hurt, but he was still protective of both of his girls. His eyes stayed glued to you, smiling to himself while he watched you smile and talk to your daughter.
Kayce, your brother, came up beside him, placing a hand on his shoulder. Tate was in the other round pen with Ryan, helping with the horse. Kayce noticed Rip’s gaze on you.
“You know, Hallie can always stay the night with Monica and I. Tate would love it. Plus it would give you a little alone time with Y/n.” Kayce suggested, nudging Rip’s shoulder with his own.
“And how do you know we’ve been trying to get alone time?” Rip questioned, looking over at Kayce.
“You seem to forget that your wife is my sister. She tells Beth and I nearly everything.” Kayce said with a raised eyebrow.
Rip shook his head and laughed. Kayce did have a point. You shared a lot with your siblings.
“I’ll talk to Y/n and make sure she’s okay with Hallie staying the night with you guys. Thanks, Kayce.” Rip said, still chuckling softly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you finished walking around the round pen with Hallie and Blaze, you led Blaze to the stables again to get him back in his area. You smiled when you saw Rip waiting for you guys. Hallie ran to him, her little laugh ringing through the stables as Rip lifted her up.
“Hey, munchkin!” Rip smiled as he held Hallie in his arms.
You walked up to your husband, letting out a soft laugh when he kissed you. Hallie was giggling like crazy, her cheek pressed against Rip’s shoulder.
“Why don’t we let Kayce and Monica take Hallie tonight? Tate wants to hang out with his favorite cousin.” Rip suggested to you, giving a look that told you his true intentions.
“Do you want to stay with Uncle Kayce and Aunt Monica tonight, Sweetheart? You always have so much fun with Tate.” You asked your daughter, letting out a chuckle when she nodded happily.
You took Hallie back up to the cabin to gather a few of her things before Kayce came up to get her. Rip met you there, keeping Hallie entertained while you gathered her things.
When Kayce came with Tate to pick her up, you and Rip each gave her a kiss on the forehead.
“Thank you, Kayce. You didn’t have to watch her tonight.” You said to your brother, giving him a hug.
“It’s not a problem at all, Y/n. You and Rip need some time together. And Tate wanted to see his cousin.” Kayce replied, smiling at you.
Rip handed Kayce Hallie’s little backpack of her things, smiling down at the excited 4 year old next to him. Kayce took Hallie’s hand in one of his hands and Tate’s hand in the other.
“Come on, kiddos!” Kayce said to the two happy children, leading them out of the cabin and to the truck.
You stood in the doorway of the cabin, smiling as you watched the three of them drive off. You were thankful for your brother. He was ensuring that you got your much needed alone time with your husband.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rip came up behind you as you closed the cabin door, gently sliding his hands down your sides. You turned in his arms with a smile, reaching up to rest your arms over his shoulders. He leaned down and kissed you as he squeezed your hips.
“Let’s go make us a baby, Mister.” You said, giggling a little when he kissed the corners of your mouth.
“You know I can’t say no to that, Baby.” Rip responded in that gruff voice you loved so much, leaning down to kiss you again.
You melted like putty in his arms, letting him deepen the kiss until his tongue was exploring your mouth. Rip’s hands slid from your hips to your thighs so he could hoist you up. He smirked against your lips when you locked your legs together around his waist.
You didn’t even realize he had started carrying you towards the bedroom. All you were focused on was the feeling of his lips against yours. He squeezed the underside of your thighs as he carried you, reveling in the way you moaned softly into his mouth. He loved the way you reacted to even the simplest of touches.
Rip laid you down on the bed and hovered above you. You looked up at him as he took his jacket off before he leaned down and began kissing your neck. You tilted your head to the side to give him better access, making him smirk against your skin.
He adored the small gasp you let out as he slid his hands under your shirt. No matter how many times the two of you had done this, you still reacted to his touch in ways you never knew were possible. He loved that he could make you and your body react to him in all the right ways.
Rip kept his eyes locked with you as he slowly pulled your shirt off of your body. He leaned down again and pressed wet kisses to your collarbone. He kissed down your body, removing your clothes as he went along.
Soon, you were almost completely bare under him. The only thing keeping you from being fully naked was your lace panties. An obvious wet spot covered the thin piece of fabric, which made Rip lick his lips.
“Look at you, Darlin’. So pretty for me.” He said in his gruff voice, his fingers running feather light over your thighs.
His touch made you shiver, a small whimper leaving your lips. You couldn’t help it, your body was so reactive to him. He always made you feel like you were on cloud nine.
Rip’s fingers inched closer to your panties until his thumb was right over your clothed clit. He applied just a little pressure, reveling in the moan he pulled from your lips. In one swift motion, he pulled your panties off your legs. You were now completely bare under him.
His eyes immediately went to your soaked folds, licking his lips at the site. He ducked down and made himself comfortable between your thighs. He looked up at you right as his lips connected with your clit.
You threw your head back with a loud moan as he began sucking, his skilled tongue making circles around your throbbing clit. Your hands went to his hair, holding his head in place as his tongue lapped through your folds.
Your fingers tugging at Rip’s hair caused him to moan against your clit, sending vibrations straight to your core. A loud gasp left your lips when he pushed a finger into you. His mouth continued to circle around your clit while he added a second finger and thrusted them in and out slowly.
That familiar heat started pooling in your lower stomach, your moans getting louder. Rip knew you were close so he didn’t stop. He picked up the pace of his fingers, making a ‘come hither’ motion that had you seeing stars.
“Come on, Baby. Cum for me. Let me hear you.” Rip said to you, immediately going back to your clit afterwards.
You came on command, loudly moaning his name. Rip smiled when he felt your walls fluttering around his fingers. He kept thrusting his fingers into you, getting you through your high. He pulled his fingers out of you when you came down, licking your juices off of his hand. He loved the taste of you, it was like a drug he could never get enough of.
“So pretty for me, Baby. My pretty girl.” He praised you, loving the soft moan that came out of your mouth at his words.
“Please, Rip…” You whined, watching him take off the rest of his clothes. Your eyes were locked on his member as he stroked himself a little.
“Shh shh. You’re okay, Darlin’. I’m gonna give you what you need.” Rip cooed, his gruff voice sending shivers down your spine.
Rip moved up your body, leaving wet kisses against your skin. He propped himself up with his hands on either side of your head, caging you in as he looked down at you. You reached up to wrap your arms around his shoulders and pulled him down to kiss you.
Rip lined himself up with your dripping entrance while he kissed you. He slowly pushed into you, his size stretching you open. You moaned into his mouth, loving the slight burn his size gave you.
He stayed still for a moment, letting you get used to him. No matter how many times the two of you had been intimate, you still had to get used to his size. He left gentle kisses on your neck while he waited patiently for you to adjust.
When you were ready, he slowly pulled out almost all the way. Before you could whine in protest, he thrusted back into you with more force. You moaned in surprise, your eyes fluttering closed as he fucked into you with a slower pace.
“There you go, Sweetheart. This what you wanted?” Rip asked softly in your ear, nipping and sucking at your neck.
“Yes, Rip…Oh fuck!” You whined, crying out in pleasure when his tip hit your g-spot.
Your cry of pleasure only fueled him further. He picked up his pace, hitting your g-spot with every damn thrust. Your brain went fuzzy as you wrapped your legs loosely around his waist to pull him impossibly closer.
Rip decided to change the position and lifted you so your chest was pressed against his. You both moaned in unison, his cock nestled so deep inside of you. He began lifting you up, guiding you to ride him. You started bouncing on him, letting him guide your pace as he squeezed your hips.
“Look at you, Baby. Such a good girl for me. Want me to give you a baby? That’s what you want, isn’t it? To be so full of me that it’ll give us another baby?” Rip spoke against your ear, massaging your hips as he thrusted up into you.
You moaned loudly, clenching down around his cock involuntarily. Rip hissed from the feeling, loving the way you tightened around him. He was so close to release, and he knew you were as well.
“Fuck, you’re so tight, Darlin’.” He groaned, his hands squeezing your hips tightly.
“I’m so close, Rip!” You cried out, rolling your hips when you couldn’t ride him anymore.
Rip took over again, thrusting up into you at a pace that, once again, had you seeing stars. He moaned when he looked down and watched his cock slide in and out of your perfect heat. He reached between your legs and began rubbing circles on your clit.
“Cum for me, Sweetheart. Let me feel you.” He whispered in your ear, applying more pressure to your clit as his thumb continued rubbing circles.
The pressure he applied was more than enough to send you over the edge. You cried out his name, throwing your head back while your thighs began to tremble. Strings of moans left your lips, your body going limp in his arms as your walls fluttered around him.
Rip thrusted up into you a few more times, fucking you through your intense release. With one more thrust, he held you down on top of him and spilled his release inside of you with a groan of pleasure. He held you there for a moment, letting you calm down.
“That’s a good girl. You did so good for me, Darlin’.” He cooed in your ear, rubbing your back in a soothing motion.
You leaned forward and nuzzled your face into his neck, your breathing heavy. A soft whine left your lips as he gently lifted you off of him. He laid you down next to him, a shit eating grin on his face when he saw his release begin to drip out of you.
Rip used his fingers to gently push it back inside of you, softly shushing you when you whined and squirmed from the overstimulation. He got up to get a washcloth and brought the damp cloth back to clean you up.
When he was done cleaning the both of you up, he laid down next to you. He wrapped his arms around you and pulled you close. You let out a content sigh and smiled when you felt his hand splayed across your stomach.
“It’ll stick this time. I just know it.” You said with a tired smile, turning over in his arms to look at him.
“Well I hope it does, Sweetheart. I can’t wait to see you carrying our baby again.” Rip told you, his hand gently rubbing circles on your stomach.
“I love you, Honey.” You whispered with a small giggle.
“I love you too, Baby.” Rip whispered back, pulling you even closer.
It didn’t take long for you to fall asleep in his arms. He just had his hand on your stomach, rubbing soothing circles on your skin until he fell asleep with you.
This time would stick. You would get another baby. You both just knew it.
a/n- HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! I know its almost over, but college and work are a pain in the ass...hopefully I am able to post more this year, but I don't want to make any promises.
Anyway me and my amazing friend @rewrittenreality here texting like a month ago about if the tgm dagger squad boys became dads, this is the result of that. I hope y'all enjoy.
Bob was over the moon when he found out you found out you were pregnant. He would surprise you with flowers and a gift for your baby. When he found out that you would be having a girl we went into full girl-dad mode. He found matching outfits for the three of you to all match with once the baby was born.
The day your baby was born Bob couldn't stop smiling. The first time he held her, he looked like his life was complete. You walked in more times than you can count to him just staring at your daughter with all the love he had.
As she got older he learned how to do her hair in various styles, and would dress her so they could twin. When her favorite movie was the little mermaid he started calling her “Flounder” and it stuck. The dagger squad started calling her that too, leading to her being the first baby dagger squad member to get a callsign.
On her first day of school Bob woke up extra early to make her her favorite breakfast, and get her a small bouquet. And when it was time to drop her off you could swear that Bob cried more than her.
He would talk to your belly just like he did in your first pregnancy, which you swear is why she is a daddy's girls. But you didn’t mind, you loved your husband any your daughter more than anything else.
When you found out you were pregnant, and that it was another girl, you couldn't wait for Bob to find out. He was on deployment when you learned of the second Floyd baby. When he got home he looked confused at your daughter's shirt. It read “big sister”. When it clicked he looked back and forth between her shirt and you before pulling you into a tight hug. When you told him it was another little girl he told you he was excited to be a girl dad again. So the matching outfits were updated to include another baby. And just like before, when your younger daughter’s favorite movie was Zootopia, he started calling her “Bunny”.
Bob was meant to be a girl dad. He made sure to raise them with all the love possible. He told you everyday that you were the best thing to happen to him, and that you made him the happiest man in the world.
You were praying the pain in your heart would stop. That all the hurt you had been through was just a horrible nightmare. But it wasn’t. It was your reality, and you couldn’t just leave it. Piece by piece you could feel yourself shutting down, your walls building high. And for the first Jay wasn’t there to put you back together.
The case you were working on kept getting worse and worse. Following lead after lead, looking into case after case trying to see if there was anything that could get you any closer to solving and closing the case. This was the first case after Jay left, and they could tell you needed him.
Hailey was the first to realize you were struggling. Offering you someone to talk to, but you didn't want to put anymore onto her. Torres was next, not ging you a choice but to talk. He got you a coffee when you were out chasing leads, and you broke down when he asked if you were okay. He told you that it was okay and he was there if you needed him. Kevin and Kim followed soon after that, then Adam. All trying to offer support. Hank and Trudy tried convincing you to sit this one out, but you couldn't. This was your job, and you needed to do it. You also needed the distraction.
But no matter how hard you tried the loneliness crept in whenever you were alone. His absence in your bed, the one you shared. The smell of his cologne fading from your apartment. Your ring only a reminder that he wasn't there with you. Everything was different without him. Every routine changed. It was like you were back before you and Jay got together. Except this time he was still yours. You hoped at least.
You hadn’t heard from him since he left. No phone call, or letter. It was radio silence. You knew contact would be scarce, but this felt like overkill. You missed your husband but there was nothing you could do to bring him back.
~
After weeks Intelligence was able to solve the case. You had the next few days off. You stayed in bed sobbing. Finally able to fall apart. You were allowed to be upset, but it felt like you should be happy. Happy Jay was doing something good. But you hated it. Why didn’t he talk to you? Tell you what he was going through? That he was going back into the military? He felt hurt when Mouse reenlisted, why would he keep that from you? You would have supported him, you just wanted him to tell you what he was going through.
After spending all day in bed crying your throat was raw from the sobs. You made your easy to the kitchen, grabbing whiskey. And while it wouldn't soothe the pain in your throat, it would help distract you, even for a short time. It burned going down, but the burn preoccupied your brain for a minute.
You didn’t have a lot, just enough for a light buzz. Deciding that you needed to try calling Jay you grabbed your phone. You knew he wouldn't pick up the phone, and that your buzz was pushing you to do this. But you did it anyway.
The phone rang until you got his voicemail.
“Hey it's Jay, I missed your call but leave a message and I’ll call you back”
Your voice cracked as you began to speak. “Hey, Jay…It's me. I miss you. I know you are probably busy, but I wish I could hear your voice.” your voice cracked more as you spoke. Tears started falling as you continued. “I’m not doing great with you gone. I keep expecting to wake up and you be next to me in bed. That when I walk upstairs at the station you will be talking to the team from behind your desk. But every day I wake up and that doesn't happen.” You whipped the tears that were falling from your eyes.
“It shouldn't be this hard. I miss you and my world has gone dark without your light. I wish you would come home. But I know that’s not fair to ask, or say. But I need you. I love you, Jay. I wish you would talk to me. Goodbye.” You ended the voicemail and started to sob. Hoping he would come back to you soon.
“Maybe we should change our names and run away.” Your head was on his chest looking up at him. The two of you had filled the bed of his truck with pillows and blankets so you could stargaze comfortably in the fields on the ranch.
“I wish it were that simple, I really do.” He met your gaze. Kayce knew that his family did many not-so-legal things and that because you lived on the ranch with him, you had witnessed some of that first-hand. And while it wasn't your first time seeing violence, he hated that being with him put you in harm's way, and in a place where you saw the violence more often than you would if you weren't together.
“Maybe one day things will be different.”
“I hope so darling.” He leaned forward kissing your forehead before looking back up at the stars. That's how it always went. Whenever you would watch the stars you and Kayce would talk about if life was different. But at the end of it, you both knew leaving would be hard. Kayce would fight for it if you asked, but you would always tell him you were happy as long as you were with him.
“Let me know what I've done wrong. I should have known this all along, we’d do around a time or two just for you to say “I wasted my time with you”. So tell me, Pete. Tell me all that you've thrown away.” You felt stupid. Why would Pete settle down with you? You were younger than him, and he was known for flings. Penny told you that it seemed different this time, that someone had finally done it. Someone got Pete Mitchell to settle down. You wished that was true, but Penny didn't know you were the one to get him to settle. Nobody knew.
You were at the bar when you heard a girl flirting with him. Saying how she thought aviators were the hottest people in the military, and asked if she could “take him for a test ride”. He laughed before leaning in whispering something in her ear. You turned away when you saw him lean in, making your way out of the bar. Pete followed as soon as he saw you walk out of the hard deck. Running after you towards the beach.
“Y/N” Pete called after you. He could tell you heard him but chose to ignore him.
“What are you talking about? You didn’t do anything. And what the hell makes you think I wasted my time with you?”
“I FUCKING SAW YOU PETE!” You turned around, blood boiling. “That girl was flirting with you and you fucking leaned in and fucking flirted with her. I was okay not telling everyone so we could enjoy the privacy for a while, but I'm not going to stick around if you are going to flirt with girls at the bar. I'm not a fucking dirty little secret, and I'm not going to be treated like one. If you want something else than what we had, someone else, just tell me because I can’t do this if you want that.” He took a step towards you, and you take two back.
“Flirting?” He was confused, who was he flirting with?
“YES! AT THE BAR WHEN I WAS TALKING TO PHOENIX!” That’s when it clicked.
“I wasn’t flirting with her, she was flirting with me.” He didn’t even think how it might look.
“Oh, that makes it all better right? “It was her not me”. You leaned in and whispered in her fucking ear.” Tears started to pool in your eyes.
“I was telling her I had a girlfriend, and that I wasn't interested.” Pete’s face was drained of color, did you think he would cheat on you? “Y/n…I promise I would never cheat on you. And I promise you aren't a dirty secret. I thought it would be easier on you if we kept it private. So nobody could say things about us, the age gap. We were the only ones that needed to know.” He stepped closer so you were within his reach. “When we live such fragile lives it's the best way we survive.”
“I'm so sorry.” You sobbed out, wrapping your arms around him, pulling him close.
He wraps his arms tightly around you. “Shh. It's okay honey. I wish you told me how you felt. And if you want we can tell everyone. I’m more than happy to tell the world that you're mine.” You could hear the smile on his face when he spoke.
You looked up a him “I love you, Pete.”
“I love you too y/n.” He pressed his lips to yours. “And I think everyone might already know.” He said as he pulled away.
“What?” Your eyes went wide.
“Darling you are the only person who calls me Pete, you always linger behind the others so you can walk with me, you glance at me anytime you get a chance. And you tend to look my way when Hangman flirts with you.” He laughed when he saw the look on your face.
“Oh…” You didn't think he realized those things.
“And Bradley might have told me about a bet the squad has.” Your eyes went wide. “Are we surprised?”You both stare at each other before laughing.
“Not in the slightest.” Knowing they had suspected something but didnt push or make jokes was a relief.
“I’m serious though. I want to tell everyone you're mine.” He had wanted to tell everyone a while ago but didnt know if you wanted people to know. He knew with the age gap that not everyone will be as comfortable as the two of you were with everything, and he didnt want you to be treated any sort of way because of it.
“I want everyone to know I'm yours Pete. I don’t care what anyone says,you’re mine and thats all I care about.” Pete Mitchell was your person. You knew he would never do anything to hurt you but you couldn’t help but feel the anxiety whenever another girl flirted with him.
He takes a step back. “Why dont we head back to the bar and tell them. See who we need to kill for the bet?”
“Mmm, I love that idea.” You felt giddy knowing that after tonight you wouldn't have to hide anymore.
You were working for Penny when you saw her from across the bar. Natasha “Pheonix” Trace. Moving to North Island to work for your aunt you knew you would see a plethora of people in the Navy. But the last person you had expected to see was Her.
She had come over to the bar to order more beers for the group she was with when she finally saw you. She smiled wide asking how long you were in town, answering that you had just moved there. Penny called you away, telling you to take the rest of the night off, saying she had enough hands for you to have fun.
You and Natasha had walked around talking for a while before eventually sitting on the beach. “Do you remember the night we almost got arrested? When we drove right past that no trespassing sign to watch the planes take off, man I thought your dad was gonna kill me.” She recalled one of your favorite nights from that summer.
“That was the summer after senior year, you were scared my scholarship would be pulled if they arrested us, and I was afraid you wouldn’t be allowed into the Navy.” You look to your right looking at her as she watches the water. The smile on her face is one you shared. Memories of when neither of you had any worries when you were together.
“You saved all the letters?” She laughed as she flipped through the box holding items from your time in college.
“Of course I did! They were my favorite thing.” You couldn't help but blush, remembering how excited you got when you saw the letters. Your roommates used to tell you how they wished they had someone who wrote to them. It stung knowing that to Nat you were just friend’s now. There were times you thought it could be something more, go back to when you told her you liked her and she kissed you. But in the end, it never came.
“What’s this?” She questioned pulling out a journal. The phrase “Everything I Didn’t Say” written across the cover in your handwriting.
“Don't open that.” You said a little too fast. She arched her brow, a questioning look on her face. You knew she wouldn't invade your privacy, but even her holding the notebook brings waves of anxiety flooding your body. “It's uh… Things that were better left unsaid. Things I wanted to say but in the end, never got shared.”
“I get it. Trust me, I have a fair share of things I've wanted to share but never said to the person they were meant for. It's safer that way I guess.” Her emotion is unreadable. She put the journal back before finding the pictures you had from when the two of you were in High School.
When Natasha told you she was going on a mission and might not come back you broke. You had just gotten her back, and now, you might lose her again. This time you wouldn’t be able to stumble into her at a bar. She had 3 days before her mission when she told you.
That night when you got home you sat down at your desk grabbing a pen and paper. Suddenly it felt like you were in college all over again, but this time instead of writing what you felt in a notebook nobody would see, you were writing to the person you cared about the most.
Natasha,
I know it's not fair that I’m telling you this now. But I can't pretend I don't want to tell you. I never stopped loving you. When we ended it a part of me broke. I've spent years trying to fix it. And I did, the night I saw you at the Hard Deck. That was the first time in years I felt whole again. And these last few weeks have been some of the best of my life. Sometimes I think of what could have been if we had stayed together.
When you would write me letters I hoped that you would say what I’m saying now. That we were too young to know we had everything. And that what we had is something some people spent their whole lives looking for. I tried telling you a few times. Like when I surprised you when you graduated from the naval academy, but I couldn’t get you alone. And when I finally did I didn’t have the guts to say it. Then again when you did the same for my graduation.
When the letters stopped I thought maybe you had found someone. I tried moving on, but no matter who it was, or how amazing everyone said they were, I never found someone who made me happy like you did. Maybe it was because in the end, I didn't want someone like you. I wanted the real thing.
With all of the mistakes I've made not telling you how I felt. And all the letters that I've saved, this is everything I didn’t say.
I know you will make it back. Give them hell Natasha.
Always,
y/n
P.S. Don't be mad at Bob for being the one to give you this, I knew I probably wouldn't see you before you leave.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Natasha read and reread the letter over and over again after the mission. She felt a feeling she hadn’t felt in a long time when she saw you. She hadn’t met anyone new when she had stopped writing the letters. She stopped because she thought that you had and hadn’t stopped her because you knew she didn’t have anyone else to write. Natasha thought back to the night she suggested the breakup. It wasn't that she didn’t love you. It was that she didn’t want to hold you back from your dreams. Everything you felt is what Natasha had been trying to pretend she wasn't feeling for years.
As soon as she was back on the ground she showered and changed as fast as possible. She tried calling you but got your voicemail instead. Deciding to try and find you another way she headed to your house only for you to not be there. She was starting to give up hope when she got a call from Bob telling her you were at the Hard deck.
Stepping into the bar she instantly saw you pouring drinks for the people in front of you. Waiting for you to be free she walks up saying your name.
“Y/n.” You stopped in your tracks. It was the moment of truth. You were about to find out if you just lost not only your friend but the love of your life. Turning you face her. Relived when you see her smiling back at you. “Are you able to take a break?” She asks. Your shift was almost over, you tell her you have 15 minutes left before asking if she wanted anything. She asks for a water and you get it for her.
The next 15 minutes feel like they are passing as slow as possible, but finally, when you look up they're over. You clock out before walking out from the back and over to her. “I’m good to go when you are.” She pays for her drink before standing up and walking out with you.
It's quiet at first, neither of you knowing what to say until you break the silence. “Did Bob give it to you?” You ask, your voice low.
“Yeah.” Is all she says at first. “I didn’t find someone else you know. I stopped writing because I thought you did and I didn't want to hold you back. When I told you we sound breakup it was because I didn't want to be the reason you didn't succeed. I thought things would go back to how they were when we were just friends. But they never did.” grabbing your hand, stopping you in your tracks she takes a step toward you. “And now I want to fix that. I want to make up for the years you lost.” You look at her and smile. She looks at you as if looking for a way to ask if she can kiss you without saying a single word, and you nod.
She leans forward placing her lips on yours. That part of you that felt broken before felt brand new with her. You knew that it wasn't going to be how it was before. But you didn't want it before, because last time it had an end.
