theres been an influx of new blogs into our space since the hard launch, and it's been awesome to see how lively things have been 💕 here's a few tips for those of you who may be new to tumblr specifically:
tags don't transfer: there's not really much of a point in reblogging something with the exact 'broad' tags that op would use when making a post (such as 'dan and phil') unless you're planning on using that tag to specifically search it on your blog later. if you want to, pick 1 or 2 specific tags you'll specifically use to search with.
don't tag unrelated things on an original post: there's no algorithm, so using tags for 'visibility' when making a post will not do so, but it will lead to people who use that tag properly to getting annoyed at you for doing it
replying in a reblog: replying to a post does not work like twitter where it's a quote tweet and you respond 'publicly'. more often than not, your side comment goes in the tags (this is why you dont spam include every possible tag, as mentioned above).
reblog things: reblogging can be intimidating, but it's the only way this platform works. likes don't do anything, as there isn't a true algorithm (if youre in algorithm mode, turn it off in settings as most users don't use it) the more you reblog, the more someone gets to know your blog. by writing things in the tags, people get a feel for your personality. it's all connected.
making friends: the best way to make friends in this community is to make or share posts, send positive asks, and be yourself. someone here will match your freak, it just takes patience. but also, if someone isn't matching the vibe, they may not be open to new friends rn and that's okay. there's lots of us here.
it's okay to make a mistake: don't worry about 'messing up' tumblr etiquette--we were all new at some point. you're allowed to learn and grow. but once you're aware of a mistake, just work to fix it/don't repeat it. watch how your favourite bloggers blog, and imitate them. soon enough it'll feel second nature.
