Regarding Alucard/Integra do you think Alucard has a want to turn Integra? Personally, I can definitely see him turning her if for no other reason than to keep her alive and we all stan Vampire Queen King Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing. But I also feel a good portion of his respect/love for her is because of her humanity and her immeasurable willpower. Considering how upset he was with Anderson for becoming a monster I can definitely see him being apposed to his beloved master becoming a monster just like himself.

I think there is forever tension between what Alucard intellectually/emotionally may want for people he may respect or care about vs him existing as this corrupting, destructive agent— which is basically what vampirism is in Hellsingverse

It’s probably the old studio Gonzo show’s influence, but I do picture him as trying to tempt her into vampirism more than a handful of times at least lol. And my read on the canon epilogue is that she becomes a vampire in the end. So, yes, I do think he wants her to be a vampire at all? Out of a sort of latent malice for the concept of a Hellsing Master who has brought him so low, regardless of his specific feelings about her, but also just for bog standard reasons of a) she will no longer have a clearly finite lifespan while he remains immortal b) she would be soooo destructive and badass and it would be great

But also, canonically he does view vampirism, the state of being “a monster”, as a bad thing! So yeah, there would probably be some regrets if she does become a vampire, or the sense that he’s done her a grievous wrong if he’s done this himself (or sense of great loss if it wasn’t him!) which would itself probably have some horror and some relish

He contains multitudes! I think he’s just like forever feeling twenty different contradicting emotions tbh

Anyway, interesting side note that very early on Integra refers to herself, and all of the Hellsing organization, as monsters. When monstrosity, for the purposes of the themes of the story, basically serves as like a separate classification of being, rather than referring to vampirism alone. I don’t… think we know how Alucard may feel about this? If that factors in at all

It’s been several years since I revisited any Hellsing canon, so I may be misremembering, but I actually don’t recall him ever particularly going on about her humanity. There is of course the broader “only a human can kill a monster” stuff, and obviously he seems to consider Anderson human despite him being some kind of fucked up regenerating super soldier to begin with (which contrasts Integra calling Anderson “a thing” bc of these modifications) but I can’t remember anything specific about Integra! Obviously she isn’t literally a vampire and is literally human. But again, considering only thematic placement, I’m not sure she’s necessarily ever contradicted in calling herself a monster? So do with that what you will

This was, specifically the part I was referring to:

Ichigo has several mentors throughout Bleach. Urahara teaches him how to do absolutely horrifying things with no regard to his emotional state. Rukia teaches him the tenets of soul reaping and inspires him to be greater than himself. The ensemble of spirits inside him help him grapple with his own truths. And then there’s Renji, whose mentorship role is a little more subtle, in part, because Renji is really only figuring out stuff about two steps ahead of Ichigo, but mostly what he teaches Ichigo is how to lose and keep going. I’ve talked before about The Dodge, and its implications that experience isn’t everything, but it is something. This scene here also reminded me of this bit right after Ichigo loses to Grimmjow for the first time:

Renji tries, not necessarily to console Ichigo, but to offer him some perspective, and Ichigo isn’t having it. At this point, Ichigo isn’t able to accept himself as anything less than perfect. Renji’s own failures are still too raw, too recent in his mind, he isn’t able to get through to Ichigo.

If you look back up at that scene in the Royal Realm again, it’s such a different dynamic. The set-up is the same-- they’ve both been dealt stinging defeats, Rukia and Byakuya have been gravely wounded as result. But they’ve been through this before. Renji’s been vice-captaining for nearly two years now, and has the leadership skills and self-confidence to go along with it: he lays out the whole case to Ichigo calmly and logically. Furthermore, Ichigo is older and more experienced now, and ready to hear it. Not only that, but he and Renji have both been through a lot, separately and together, and he knows that Renji’s words aren’t empty or patronizing. Renji is telling him this, not just because it’s true and because Ichigo needs to hear it, but also because Renji shares his doubts, and this is how he’s choosing to move forward, this is how they’re both going to move forward.

Anyway, I love these two boneheads and their bonehead friendship and their bonehead character progression, no one’s doin’ it like them.
