i had a wolf oc once who was very obviously based on lapis from steven universe. an ex-friend of mine was scrutinising him really badly because "is he based on lapis from steven universe?" "not that original" "why would you base an oc on a canon character lol" as if inspiration isn't one of the most fun things of people making art
