Just trying to walk home was proving difficult. She’d convinced her new boss she wasn’t feeling well and needed to leave. It wasn’t hard considering how much the family that had owned the restaurant really took Hope under their wing. Even without the mark on her arm, they knew she was a meta and made a point to not bring it up. She knew their son was too and unregistered. Not that she really intended to sense him. She just started picking up on all of the powers within a block radius. It was like having an antenna on her head and it was beaming everything she’d been actively trying to avoid for the last few years directly to her. She pulled at her sleeves as she walked through the crowd muttering about the different powers she could feel. Occasionally she’d make a wider arc around someone she really, really didn’t want to copy. Not out here in the open. But it was getting worse. She was starting to sense something in everyone. Not everyone could be a meta. That was impossible. But no, there wasn’t a human anywhere near her. None at all. She must have looked like a crazy person because someone grabbed her arm and she yanked it free screaming, “Don’t touch me! Are you fucking crazy?!!?”
Julio had been doing everything in his power to contain himself, but wasn’t quite doing the best job of holding it all in. His senses were on fire, hearing what seemed like everything in the city, especially with all the chaos going on around them.
As he was walking along, he picked up a scent he was sure he recognized, getting closer and closer, until he bumped into someone and his hand shot out to grab their arm, only to narrow his eyes when he recognized the voice screaming at him.
“Whoooooa, calmarse, calmarse. Preciosa ¿Estás bien?”
