a/n; summary based off my favorite song by sorry ghost, box breathing. this is a vent from a long while ago, but i think i like this fic enough to finish this.

humans are so confusing, you think. there's not a day that goes by where you don't think about them. most would call you need for understanding as curiosity. but it runs deeper than that. you are not fascinated like jade and his mushrooms, you are not calculating like azul with his carefully thought out plans, and you are not eager like floyd who awaits to pick out his next prey.
there is a heavier feeling, one you are unfamiliar with. having become a human now, you have recently learned how to navigate this life on land. you are learning quickly but you struggle with human emotions. you do not understand what goes on in their minds, why they make the faces they make, why they smile, why they cry. you were once a half brainless jellyfish for most of your life, now you are given a life that many humans live. full brain and all.
but nothing feels right. even in the dorms that were made for the best comfort— to feel like your home sea, it's not right. you try to speak with your dormmates, only to be met with strained responses or deceptive kindness. you had recently learned from jade that, no, they weren't always busy when you wanted to hang out. they didn't see you as part of their group. which is fair in your mind, you're a jellyfish. lone little fish you were.
but why does your heart ache?
so, naturally you try to make new friends. that feeling comes back but it's somehow different. these friends were kind to you, genuinely but nothing seemed to click. they say that when you find the right people, it's like you have known them forever. that's what all those human books tell you.
why does it feel so impossible?
you feel like you're drifting in the large sea again as you watch the groups you could've been part of, had you not messed it up somehow. they joke and smile. they look like the happiest school of fishies you've seen. happier than they have ever been than when they talk with you.
what is wrong with you?
you clutch the plastic server tray to your chest, clad in your stupid waiting staff uniform as you observe the group of friends.
"oi, y/n-chan, you're shaking." a bored voice cuts through your thoughts. it's floyd.
you stop, glancing at him for a moment before adjusting your posture and muttering an apology. despite the buzz of a busy dinner night, there's a sense of peace. but you are still restless, "sorry. i was thinking."
"i'm probably the last person you should be lying to, y/n-chan."
"but i was thinking."
floyd doesn't say anything. his lips pressed in a line with an unreadable expression. you instinctively tense up like a jellyfish waiting to sting. but instead of his usually harsh blunt remarks, he sighs. "staring at those schools of fishes isn't gonna make ya feel better. aren't they your little friends?" he asked.
your heart scrunches with an indescribable pain. "yeah. something like that." you glance away, holding your server tray away from your chest. your hands are clammy as you adjust your hold. you look again at the group and it's hard to hide your expression from floyd.
"you look like you wanna sting 'em." he comments.
"i don't want to.." you said slowly, trailing off. your eyes avoid his gaze and he can't stop the knowing look on his face from growing. "it's just.."
"you're allowed to feel terrible, y/n-chan." he speaks with serious clarity. you've always found it a little odd the way he speaks of your name, he's never called you by a nickname since you've started middle school with the mostro trio. somehow you've been integrated into this little group of friends, which you're very grateful for but even sometimes, you feel that same distance with them.
"is there something wrong with me?" you decide to spit out what's been on your mind this whole shift.
he blinks, not in disbelief or shock, but with a questioning stare, "why would ya think that?"
you look over at the table again and he follows your gaze, "did they tell ya that you're weird?" his eyes start to glimmer, that glint of mischief beginning to show itself, "do you want me ta squeeze 'em?"
"no! no... they didn't say anything like that!" you wave your hands in a brief panic, moving your tray onto a service cart in case you had to physically stop him from doing something azul would definitely not approve of.
his energy seems to drain immediately upon hearing your reply, "aw man. then what happened?"
your panic quickly subsides, hands resting on your sides, "they.. started ignoring me," you muttered. "i don't know what i did wrong. because they don't want to tell me. so, i think something is just wrong with me.." you slowly explain to floyd who seems bored at first but changes his mood once more.
"do ya want me to get it out of them?" he gives you a toothy smirk, arms stretching out as he seems to prepare to give your "friends" a hard time.
"please don't. azul is already stressed enough, floyd.."
"it sounds to me like there's something wrong with them! i'm gonna get it out of them right now!" you quickly grasp your arms around his waist before he could jump the group. people are starting to stare and jade is not intervening much to your dismay. you struggle to drag the crazy eel towards the break room, announcing to the other employees about your unprompted break with floyd.
it's a silly moment to watch you drag a very eager floyd but jade seems very entertained, "have a good break, y/n dear. thank you for handling floyd." he hummed. perhaps he'll handle these matters instead.
as you enter the break room, floyd pouts, "come on, you could've let me give them a piece of my mind and a big hug! why would those small fry ignore you?"
and your composure trembles, you don't know the answer to that. "that's what i ask myself everyday, floyd. i don't know. all i know is that, everytime i make a friend, i just feel like i don't belong." before you know it, you spill out your heart, "i tried texting them but no one answered or they just avoid the question. i just started realizing that they aren't actually busy all the time, they just want to avoid me! and i don't know why!" you sit on the couch with an exhausted groan, face buried in your hands.
floyd calms down again, watching you collapse on the couch, "all the more reason to squeeze them into giving an answer. i don't think you're weird. jade doesn't think you're weird. azul doesn't think so either." you look up at him, hearing the seriousness in his voice. "don't worry about those small frys who give you a hard time."
the door creaks open, revealing azul, "i heard that you've been feeling rather down as of late, y/n."
"so-sorry azul, it's nothing really. i can get back to work-" you quickly stand, brushing off the non-existent dust on your uniform.
"nuh-uh! no way!" floyd locks you in his tight hug, "they're a big liar! there was some little guppies that were their friends but now they're ignoring y/n-chan! what a bunch of weak plankton..." he grumbled, holding you tighter at the thought of them ignoring so blatantly.
azul adjusted his glasses, "well, we can't have that affect you during work, y/n. jade said he would be taking care of it now which is why i'm here to check on you." somehow, you were less worried about floyd dealing with that fake group of friends and more worried about jade doing it instead. "you can take a break for the rest of the day. floyd, please get back to work. i want to talk to y/n."
"man.. i'm always stuck doing the work.." floyd puts you back on the ground, your feet gently touching the floor before he leaves to find his twin.
you follow azul to his office, sitting down on a nearby chair. "it really isn't a big deal, azul."
"it's clearly been something heavy on your mind since floyd was making a fuss about it. and jade seemed to act on his own as well. rest assured they didn't do anything extreme at least. though we will lose on a few regulars." he shook his head softly before his face softens as he looks at you, "i just want to try and be there for you as well. you're our friend after all." you can tell that he's trying his hardest to be sincere, his face flushed from being so vulnerable.
floyd and jade come back with satisfied looks on their faces. they definitely did something slightly concerning.
"the issue has been taken care of." jade smiles.
floyd skips over to you, picking you up as if you were a cat before locking you into his signature squeezes. but clearly, this hug is much less deadly and more affectionate. "i gave em a real good talk!"
it's only then does it really click that you do have a place that you belong and you do have people that belong with you.

a/n; ha.. been a while. i said i was gonna write more and then my computer fucked me over again... classic. we chilling for now once more. i dont think this is really good though, but enjoy. i wanted to write sibling reader with the itoshis. probably ooc sae lmao.
this house is not a home. there is nothing that can convince you otherwise.
your feet walk down the same cold hallway, passing by empty rooms. particularly sae's old room, devoid of life and no sign of a past resident other than the worn-out bed sheets that are left behind. you pass rin's closed door. there's a quietness to it that almost makes you forget that he lives in the house with you.
you don't remember what his room looks like because he never lets you in. you only get brief glimpses and you can see the walls, unmarred and clean. clean walls are probably the last thing most would expect from a teen in their own room. either way, you're basically on your own.
the day sae and rin fought, it felt like your world got a little duller. your parents were busy working, barely seen in the morning and deep asleep at night. and when sae left, you and rin were left behind. and clearly, both of you took it differently.
rin constantly had anger bubbling under his skin, betrayal burned his heart. he wanted to fight, crawl his way to the top just to catch up to him.
you, who felt lost, couldn't even process your feelings because you were so young when it happened. all you saw was rin and sae coming back home with frustration etched on their faces. you were out of the loop. when you were old enough to ask, there wasn't even an opportunity to ask. rin was buried in his need to be the best that he forgot that you had lost sae too.
you were left behind. and at first, it felt like, there was nothing to grieve over. all you knew was that you had an older brother who lived far away and an older brother who never interacted with you past calling you for a one pan dinner. why would you have something to be sad about when you didn't know what was sad about it? and then you heard your classmates talk about siblings and family. and your heart ached.
why didn't your family act like theirs? why did your brothers not talk to you? who even is sae to you anymore? do you even know anything about sae? about rin?
it's a sad epiphany. realizing that you're different from other people. that your family life is not normal. learning that sitting in the living room, alone, and watching saturday cartoons on your own isn't really the peak family experience you could be having. you mourn the loss of a family you never had. you want to hope that maybe someday you'll experience having siblings that actually care for you.
but when you sit on the cold couch in the empty living room, you feel like having a home is an unattainable goal.
sae is supposed to come home today, according to the news. it's crazy that you have to get news about your older brother through social media. you are in a different world than he is, clearly. but you continue to wait for him anyway. you want to meet him. there is something deep in your heart that still wants to love your family even if you don't know them very well. but you want to know sae. you want to know rin.
you just have to hope they'll let you in.
you pull up your texts on your phone, clicking rin's chat room before typing to him. sae is coming home.
no response, only the indication that he read it. you figured as much. he was so tense when it came to anything about sae. he never told you what happened, only muttering about how he was a shitty brother and nothing more.
but you wait for him anyway. you watch the reruns of your old kid shows, just to pass time.
so, for the next few hours, you sit on the cold couch, hugging yourself as you count down the minutes. the tv becomes background noise, the light in the windows dims down as the sun disappears into the heavy night.
it's dinner time before you know it. rin calls out to you in an annoyed manner. he can't believe that you're still waiting on the eldest brother to come home. "why are you even waiting for that piece of shit?" he grumbled out, handing you a bowl of beef and rice.
"i want to meet him. because.. you know i barely know him." you reply, slowly eating your food, "i want to learn about my brothers." your voice grows soft and hesitant, feeling extremely awkward and vulnerable for putting your thoughts out there. it's weird speaking for yourself when there's actually someone listening for once.
your distracted gaze doesn't notice rin's own conflicted gaze. but it's long gone when you focus back on him. "don't you wanna wait for him too?" it's a stupid question, you admit, but you can't help but ask.
rin scoffed, "as if i would. i'm gonna be in my room. he can fuck off for all i care."
"oh okay," you respond awkwardly, "um, well, i'm gonna watch scary movies tonight if you change your mind on waiting." you internally cringe at how awkward the air is. why did your brothers have to be so cross with each other?
"no." he replied coldly. and the conversation ends, chopsticks click against the porcelain bowls as dinner is finished. you end up cleaning the dishes as an unspoken rule of cleaning when rin does the cooking.
maybe sae might be hungry when he comes, you think. you cook a quick meal with your limited skill and food available, sealing it up in a tupperware before leaving a note for sae.
and you're back to being alone again.
you lay on the couch, rested on stiff throw pillows and a think blanket. you watch a family movie. something about how family should always stick together and be there for each other. you can't help but scoff quietly. as if things like that would ever happen to you. but you can't deny the ache in your heart.
you internally curse your soft heart for feeling like this. you grab the remote to change the movie, but stop when you watch the after credits. the parents are watching over their kids on the porch as the kids play in the sun. the eldest and the middle child are playing soccer and the youngest is calling to join. and without hesitation, they let them join.
that could've been you in a perfect world.
and your heart aches again. you restart the movie without a second thought. and your eyes start to close, the sound of the movie fades as you dream about the home you wish you had.
when sae finally gets home, his manager can't help but wonder why he didn't choose to stay at a vacation home or a nice hotel. but nonetheless, he's dropped off at his childhood home. his parents are home but resting for their next long day at work. he still has the key to the house, so he lets himself in.
he slips his shoes off, noting your own pair of shoes neatly on the shoe rack as rin's pair aren't even straightened out. he can see how much you've grown just from the shoes alone. his eyes are trained on them for a second longer as if he's wondering how much you really changed.
and his question is answered when he sees the living room tv glow and he walks past the couch and finds you. you're curled up to conserve heat as the blanket barely covers your body well. he notices the movie you're watching and sighs quietly. his cold heart almost stings at the thought of you watching these feel good movies alone.
he looks to the kitchen, finds the meal you cooked him and the simple note you left. welcome home, sae with an awkward heart at the end. it looks like the heart was a late minute thought added to it.
after he's eaten the dinner and cleaned his dish, he looks back at your sleeping figure. sae does most of his nightly routine. but this time, when his hair is dry and he's dressed for sleep, he goes back to you with a larger blanket hanging off his arm. the elder brother tosses the blanket over you without any gentleness, causing you to stir and open your bleary eyes. you make a vague questioning noise while sae adjusts the blanket.
"go back to sleep, y/n," he muttered.
"you're supposed to say you're home, sae," even in your sleepy daze, your eyes brighten when you realize who it is, "welcome home, bro." you muttered tiredly, curling up into a more comfortable position as warmth seeps into your skin.
he can't help but roll his eyes at your comment, knocking a knuckle on your forehead before replying, "i'm home, now go back to sleep. it's not healthy to stay up, idiot." despite his lack of tone in his words, his eyes are warm. the corner of his lips twitch, but he contains it.
but it's clear that you see the warmth, you can feel the warmth he's giving you. the couch is not as cold anymore as sae takes his own spot on the end of it, right next to your head while he takes up the long part of the sectional. he changes the movie as he keeps you company into the late of the night.
for a brief moment, the house feels like a home to you. because you wanted nothing more to spend time with your brothers. but you were still missing one.
the one who stood in the dark, peeking through the crack of his bedroom door, unsure of whether he would like to be part of it or should he listen to the anger in his heart and deny himself a chance to feel warmth too.

malleus draconia is no stranger to the more different oddities of twisted wonderland. but when you're in a world of magic, it's hard to find a lot that is truly something new.
but he finds something new. you. the alien who is deceptively human-looking. he finds great joy in bonding with you. but despite your outgoing and outspoken self, you actually don't speak a lot of your origins and when he asks of your tardis and how time works, you give him the same response you give to many, "time is just a ball of.. wibbly-wobbly timey-whimey."
other than how you wave off your past, he really does like having you around. when he asks why you're not scared of him, you answer, "i have bigger things to be scared of than a powerful mage. and i've seen a lot of scary things. you are not very scary, prince." and he is very pleased by that answer.
he tells you about the magic of his home, and the interests that he loves to speak of. and you do something similarly, but you speak of millions of worlds, millions of species met, timelines you've landed into, magic that is truly mine bending. you have the heart of an adventurer. malleus even suggests showing you around briar valley someday.

"my world?" your eyes grow wistful, holding a shine that isn't always seen from you. he sees how you relax for just a small moment before straightening out. "it was beautiful." and he doesn't need to hear anymore, the reverence and warmth heard from it is enough.

lilia vanrouge is no stranger to pain. he's a man who's lived a long life. but you're someone who's lived many lives. so similar yet so different. you totally clock him for it. he finds amusement in that. both of you speak of different times, times long gone, times that don't stay.

you swallow back your disgust, "big red rubbery thing covered in suckers... like a octopus arm but worse and they have.. venom sacs in their tongue." you sigh.

rook hunt has something new to study, and you are the unwilling subject. despite being someone who can catch a lot of attention, you don't really like being perceived as large groups as the center of attention. you are neither of those things, you believe. the good you do will never cover the past. but rook doesn't need to know that. but he wants to know. he has a morbid curiosity over you. why do you look so human? what lies underneath your skin? why do you have two hearts? why do you regenerate?
while you are flattered, you're also slightly uncomfortable by being so heavily watched. not like that hasn't happened before but now it's just that you always seem to spot him and now you're just extremely aware of his presence whether you like it or not.
when he does decide to actually talk to you instead of just staring in the dark like a cryptid, he asks you about different lifeforms you've met. he does ask about your biology which while you love to indulge in teaching others, he can get real personal about it. he hopes to know your true name one day but that's just never gonna happen.
"ah! médecin mystère, i would love to know more about the creatures you meet! is there anything that is truly beautiful?"
"hate to disappoint, but most of the time, i'm encountering quite violent things..." you rub the back of your neck with a exasperated look. "i think... the most beautiful creature i've met.. are humans." rook listens with a unreadable smile.
"what is it about humans that you like so much, médecin mystère?"
"well, your persistence is annoyingly commendable. i have seen humans stand the test of a time in times of trouble and in times of hopelessness. they always seem to find a way no matter what. and while i don't commend everything they do, i give them credit where its due."
riddle rosehearts is absolutely annoyed by you at first. you act like you're all that. you ruin the freshman ceremony with your... alien-ness! you break all exceptions of reality. he hates it. he thinks you're on par for trouble with ace and deuce. but he's far from the truth.
since you're not exactly fit to be in the school, you sort of sit in a few classes once in a while, to learn of this world. you talk to students with odd but friendly disposition. you truly have a smart mind, speaking of science and quickly understanding how the world works. what you don't really know is being social. and in a weird way, riddle relates to that. especially after his overblot. he feels like he's starting everything over, he's picking up pieces of himself and trying to build back everything to make himself new.
and slowly he finds the courage to truly speak to you. and you talk to him like nothing happened. you speak to him as if you didn't experience the trauma he's been through. you ask him about his dorm and how interestingly nonsensical the rules are from an outsider's perspective. you sort of teach him that he's allowed to relax.

when you finally manage to stop floating, the situation settles a little bit. at least for the two men that were floating with you.

a yordle creature is trying to question you and your origins, but your mind can't seem to conjure up anything that would be a viable answer. "i.. don't know. but where exactly am i?"
the yordle, heimerdinger, informs you that you are in piltover and introduce you to viktor and jayce as well.
"piltover.. i definitely didn't know that this was piltover because i've never been around there."
"do you remember anything about your home?"
"not much. but i'm from the undercity." you answer. and that leaves the young scientists to ponder why exactly the hexcore brought you here. was it really that powerful to just teleport people from the undercity to piltover?
nothing seemed to be clicking. and so, they decide to escort you back to the dark lanes of the undercity.
but when you reach the bridge, viktor can spot the shine of confusion in your eyes.
"wait.. this is the undercity, right?" you looked over at the glum streets. "but.."
"but what? it always has been like this."
"this isn't.." you head pulses with pain as a memory tries to break through. "the undercity wasn't like this. it was-" before you can even speak about your home, it feels like you have the wind knocked out of you. your breath heaving as you cough near uncontrollably. jayce and viktor are quick to offer a hand to help you. jayce holds you steady, and viktor offers a hesitant but gentle hand. "it wasn't like this.." you can only mutter as another cough tickles your throat, threatening to come out. it doesn't take long for the two men to come up with a different thought instead.
"i don't think you're from our world." viktor said slowly.
"but i'm from runeterra, i live in zaun, i know that much." you get a little defensive. "and i know that, this isn't the zaun i live in."

viktor should've realized sooner as a zaunite himself. you didn't wear any worn-out dirtied clothing or had that scent of undercity smoke and gasoline that always permeated around the lanes. you were different from the undercity he knew.
with enough convincing to heimerdinger, he agrees to let you stay in piltover, but viktor and jayce would have to be responsible for you. which admittedly feels a little offending as you're not any kind of irresponsible pet or kid, but you wave off the annoyance for a more pressing problem.
"i'm from a different timeline?"
"it sounds crazy, i know." jayce immediately tells you, just seeing the incredulous look on your face. "but it seems like the most logical conclusion. you said you were from runeterra, you were from the undercity, and that the undercity you know doesn't look the way our undercity does."
"it could be entirely possible that you can even be from a different universe in general, ehh... i suppose that would be like a timeline, too." viktor sucked in a breath through his slightly clenched teeth as he tried to wonder over the details of what counted as a universe or timeline.
"the point is, this isn't the runeterra you know. and we don't know how to get you back."
and so you basically had a reset button on your life, now living in a world that was close to yours.. but not quite.
heimerdinger had concluded that there was some sort of magic binding on your memories, not allowing you to speak too much detail of them. and there seemed to be no loopholes for it. you would be stuck like that for an unknown amount of time.
that was concerning, to say the least. but not as concerning as trying to remember that this isn't the world you know. you're not meant to be here. but you'd be lying if you said that you weren't curious about how this world functioned compared to yours.
you were naturally really interested in the hextech. and it seemed like the hexcore was interested in you, it spit you out into here after all.
"do you think the hexcore is the reason i can't talk about my home?" you asked the two scientists as you stared at the core of magic and science.
"it would make sense. in a way. it's the only magic you've been exposed to. and directly in contact with.. obviously." viktor said with matter of fact tone.
it seemed like it was the only somewhat reasonable answer. and there was only one solution to you; live this new life. you don't remember everything that happened in your old life, and even if you did, you'd be coughing up your lungs before you can get a word out about it.
alternate reality and timelines really aren't fun, you realize quickly. you live in this.. new piltover and zaun and it's.. really off-putting. like knowing that everything is fine, but your mind is telling you that there's something just so wrong.
your identity blends in just enough with the support of viktor and jayce. but you don't feel right. viktor easily can sense that feeling of isolation. he understands it too well. it's the face he's seen on multiple zaunites like himself. when they don't know if they really belong in this world.
he tugs you away into his side of the lab as the gentle whirring of the hexcore hums with life, mocking you that you have no way home. jayce had left to pick up some dinner for you three, and you stayed behind for the sole reason of not having anything better to do (and maybe even keep viktor company).
the look in his sharp amber eyes is hesitant before he speaks. "how are you feeling?" he asked within the ambiance of the lab. he doesn't look at you, turning to mindlessly fiddle with his work-in-progress hex claw.
you shrugged halfheartedly with a hum, "i don't know. it just..." you let out a sigh. "it doesn't feel right."
"what doesn't?"
"being here." he lets you continue if you want, stopping his tinkering to look at you. your eyebrows furrow with a frown on your lips. "i don't know. maybe i'm just being delusional."
he pursues his lips, trying to find the right words to say. "i'm sorry we can't find a way back to your home." he said softly. "i can't imagine how it feels like to live in a world so similar but so different from home." he takes your wrist gently to guide you to an empty chair next to him.
you sit down slowly. he looks at your disheartened face.
"i'm not great at comfort like this. jayce would probably do much better than me right now. he gives a great hug." he laughed weakly, trying to lighten the mood. "but i'm not going to sit back and let you be alone on the pain." his eyes swirl with warmth. you can tell he's trying his best to comfort you.
"do you think.. we would ever meet back in my timeline?"
before viktor could answer, the door opens, revealing the golden boy himself.
"i got us some dinner!" his smile oblivious and bright, unware of the heavy air as his presence seems more bright than the setting sun.

And reader basically came from the reality ekko and heimerdinger were transported to, and how they got to the main reality where everything take place originally is when viktor and jayce activated the machine to stabilize the hexcore i imagined the arcane freaked so in the moment of astoundment there was a second boom after the first. Bright, loud and BOOM this strange person is floating in the air with them. So naturally jayce and viktor had to find out why this happened, who is this person? Turns out they remember nothing. Little fragments of vander, silco, fighting, and death. They live this new second chance of life with curiousness, this isnt the world she remembered though they never went to piltover in the other world either.
Spending they’re time helping helping viktor and jayce with hextech, enjoying their life with new people who they hold now so close to their heart.
