Monster Trail issue #3 is here! The books look great so I’ll be signing, packing, and shipping them out by Friday!
Remember that pre-orders for Monster Trail issue 3 are going on now through August 10th! With each order, you’ll get an exclusive, one-of-a-kind original Polaroid drawing like this one!
Order form is here.
Monster Trail Issue #3 is now available for pre-order!
At a secret Blue Ridge summer camp for monsters, friends Cheyenne, Veronica, and Lupé take classes to hone their powers. Veronica and the other vampires learn shapeshifting while something continues to stalk the outskirts of camp. Finally, a surprise encounter with the fae leave the counselors with more questions than answers.
This issue of Monster Trail is 28-pages, full-color, and costs $10 plus shipping. It picks up right where issue #2 left off. Please click the link above to order your very own copy, or a copy for a loved one! Pre-orders close after Aug 10, 2020, so if you’d like to support me and make a purchase, please don’t hesitate!
Also, I’m offering an exclusive, free pre-order bonus for issue #3 - each copy you order comes with a one-of-a-kind original hand-drawn Polaroid!
*Orders are for contiguous US customers only - I’m shipping them out myself so I can’t ship outside the US. Sorry!
Cover reveal for Monster Trail issue #3! This time highlighting Nathan and Veronica. Details about printing and sales to follow.
Monster Trail is about a secret Blue Ridge summer camp for monsters. Once-dormant magic has reawakened on the mountain, creating new challenges for the counselors and campers as they also navigate their relationships with one another.

Monster Trail issue #3 is now underway!
I’ve sketched about half the pages now. Here’s a fun panel of Nathan.

I've been pretty quiet on the Monster Trail front, but after working in a coffee shop today like some kind of hip cartoonist, I've almost finished the script for the whole of arc one (about 5 issues). It's almost time to start drawing issue 3!
All issue #2 pre-orders were filled and shipped this past week! Thanks so much to everyone who pre-ordered. If there’s any problem with your order don’t hesitate to let me know, and if you didn’t pre-order but you want a copy, I still have plenty in stock!
This wraps up most of my Monster Trail activity for 2019. Originally I wanted to start drawing issue #3 this month, but instead I’m going to spend Nov and Dec writing as much script as I can. So issue #3 will likely be out spring 2020. Thanks for a great year!

Issue 2 is in! The books arrived the day before Halloween, which is perfect timing for the spooky cover! The printing is great, just like the first issue!
I’m ahead of schedule now so I’ll be able to take my time packing and shipping orders. I’ll post an announcement when they’ve shipped!
11/3/19
I checked on the status of my print order for MT#2 and it says my copies have been printed and are awaiting shipping! Sounds like they may come sooner than I thought. I’m excited!
Also I made a bit of a breakthrough on the script today which is great cause I kinda wrote myself into a corner at the beginning of issue #3. I’m trying to just write a lot and make things up as I go so I don’t lose momentum. I think it’s working so far!

Got an email today saying the books have been shipped! Looks like I’ll have them for Halloween after all, haha. They should arrive on the 30th.

Worked on writing the rest of the first arc today. I got the outline to a point where I could print it out and mark it up, which is exciting. Something about printing the outlines/scripts and writing all over the paper really helps me think of the story in different ways and make progress.
Anyway the outline is still super rough but it’s way better than it was even one week ago! Really hoping I can finish the outline soon and then write much of the actual expanded script before the month is over.

Who’s that Pokemon??!
Yesterday I made a full-body reference drawing of the beast, but showing the whole thing would be a spoiler. This’ll have to do for now.
As for a proper update: MT#2 is awaiting print now and should arrive in my hands around Nov 4th, so that’s exciting! I’ve vowed to spend this month plotting out the whole first arc and beyond, if I can. Basically I want to draft as much of the script as possible in 2019 and hopefully start drawing issue 3 sometime next month.
10/9/19
I’ll be sending MT #2 to print in the next couple days! This is exciting but the downside is that the first issue was really successful in terms of money/numbers the second one will not do nearly as well.
I was able to order 180 copies last time, I sold 140 of them, and I made around $1,000. This time I can’t afford to order even 100 and I’ll be lucky to make any profit at all. I’m not saying this to guilt folks who didn’t order or anything like that - it’s just the facts. Print media can be expensive!
So it’s a bit disappointing, but I saw this coming so I just need to deal with it. I’m not sure what the future of MT will be in terms of print, but at least I know I’ll continue to produce it either way! Anyway wish me luck and I’ll post an update when issue #2 has actually been ordered from the printer~
Today is the last day to pre-order MT #2!
This morning I did the final editing pass looking for mistakes in the art or dialogue and places that could use more clarity, etc. I found a lot but hey, that’s typical. Unfortunately I found one pretty big art mistake but it would be too much trouble to redo it, so I think I’ll leave it in and hope folks don’t notice. Or I can make it a fun easter egg, like “hey readers, can YOU spot the mistake in issue #2?” haha
9/28/19
Whoops, I haven’t posted here in a while - I finished the back cover for issue 2 on 9/13/19 so I’ve been enjoying a few weeks off after finishing it. Orders are going pretty well! I’m happy that October will be a break month as I wait for the books to be printed. I’ll also use October to plan out the rest of this arc of MT and maybe beyond... I should be ready to dive into work on issue #3 as soon as November starts. Gonna finish the year strong!
Also! It has now been 1 year since I pitched Monster Trail as my senior thesis project. Kinda wild that I’ve already basically completed a second issue in that time. Pitching it was pretty scary but look how it turned out! Very well, haha.
9/24/19
I finished all the interior pages for issue 2 today! Only thing left is the back cover. Then I’ll run through everything to check for spelling and art mistakes, clarity, etc... and it’s off to print next month!

Don’t forget pre-orders are going on all this month!
