Oh ya know what? I've been playing a lot of Pokemon lately and it reminded me of some old AUs where the animatronics had workplace Absols and stuff and it got me thinking...
Fazbear's probably wouldn't give them Absols. Their health and safety record is abysmal and the poor Absols would be nervous wrecks alerting to absolutely everything that moves, which is obviously bad for their public image. So, why not just lie and pretend Eevees (very popular Pokemon with zero negative reputation) can sense danger in similar ways instead? It's not like they've never lied about shit like that before
Eevees also open the way to more branding opportunities. Everyone can potentially have other Pokemon of course, but everyone having a different Eeveelution? When all of them are so popular and can work with all the different themes they could want? It's the perfect choice really!
So, Fazbear starts every animatronic off with an Eevee. As time goes on and the animatronic and their attraction get more established and well known, they can start to drum up some hype on what their Eevee will evolve into. This is predetermined of course, Fazbear has already decided what each one should become and will make sure everything happens as it should to get the desired evolution, but they make a big mystery out of it for the fans to stew over until the big reveal. Classic brand stuff.
They don't do this with Freddy, he has an Eevee with an everstone. Chica has either a Flareon or a Jolteon, Bonnie probably has a Glaceon, Monty has a Vaporeon, Sunny and Moon have Espeon and Umbreon and DJ gets Leafeon. All of them were chosen for how well they fit the image of each animatronic and attraction they would be representing.
Roxy, being a newer addition to the team, is set to get either a Flareon or a Jolteon, whichever one Chica didn't get. However, being upgraded to be Mimic's guard dog, kind of ruins the plan.
As each Eevee is supposed to be their assigned animatronic's partner Pokemon, Roxy being moved to security means that her Eevee is also moved to security. When that first incident with the Mimic goes down? When that entire construction crew goes down under the Raceway and gets themselves killed? Both Roxy and her Eevee are there trying to stop it.
What if, when confronted by the true horror of Fazbear, witnessing the deaths many and being shielded from many more, this little Eevee, so desperate to help it's partner and so desperate to help at all in this truly impossible situation, evolves into Slyveon?
What if all the joy and excitement is taken out of its evolution because it evolved in a place full of nothing but pain? What if it spends all of its time with its ribbons wrapped around Roxy in an effort to comfort her, but also as a reminder that she's still here? That Slyveon isn't alone and that its partner is still here? They're not underground any more. They aren't in danger any more... but it doesn't feel like it. It knows that Roxy can still see the monster. It flinches just as she does every time she looks at it through the floor, because it's just as afraid as she is.
Wouldn't that be tragic?
And after all of that, Fazbear execs are still more concerned about how they're going to work with a Sylveon instead of a Flareon or whatever. They've even tried to take Sylveon from Roxy and replace it with a new Eevee but all that happened was that someone got fucking moon blasted into next year.
It's too late now. They've trauma bonded.
