Half-brothers (Lore drop under the cut)

So... I usually make Haddad and Luca be adoptive brothers (Luca being the adopted one) But in this Witherwild setting I figured it'd be interesting if they were actually related. Haddad is a half-giant, and Luca is fully human. They have the same human mom (who passed when they were still children).

In this AU they still live together in their childhood home (modified for their current needs). It's located up in a mountaintown named Fjallskär. Haddad took a bunch of odd jobs (night guard, builder, lumberjack) until he finally ended up working as a blacksmith from his own home. Luca on the other hand was way more invested in botany and plant magic rather than manual labor, so he has a laboratory up in his own room. He tried to find a cure for the "wither" with his experiments, but was ultimately unsuccessful. The wither he was studying made him ill, and despite Haddad's attempts to save him, Luca died (and turned into a tree) as a result of it.

Haddad promised Luca in his last moments that he'd try to find a cure, if not for him, at least for others living the same fate. Haddad's current purpose is to fulfill his late brother's dream, and to protect his new party members from any harm (Partially to attone for the fact that he could not protect Luca)

Touched by Nikta's curse

These are Ophelia and Haddad. Ophelia is my sister's character for Daggerheart, and Haddad is my own.

One of the main aspects of the Witherwild setting is the 'wither', a sort of magic illness that is capable of altering you physically and give you wild or naturalistic features. Both Ophelia and Haddad have been exposed to its effects via injuries during battle, so currently they both posess it to an extent.

Ophelia is a half-Katari, and has spent most of her life traveling and hunting through the expansive forests of Fanewick with her father; now deceased from the wither himself.

Haddad, a half-giant, has lived a peaceful, hard-working life up in the Fjallskär mountains, until his brother Luca's death, also from the wither.

They might be the only ones in their party who are currently scarred by the wither. But, as Haddad often tells Ophelia, "We're the strongest ones, that's why we can bear it".

So last post I had mentioned I'd won a PvP combat against one of my teammates (a cocky monk). But next stage of the PvP tournament was a 3v3 against TWO of my teammates! My sister's indestructible cleric of life, and a friend's well-seasoned and insanely creative fighter...

Well... I still won! Luca won!! 👀✨

I have to be honest, it wasn't the most satisfying victory, because my last minute strategy was kind of bullshit... lol. I sincerely felt super bad right after the combat ended, not at all how I expected to feel! Which was eye-opening, and definitely a lesson for next time: I realized I enjoy cinematic, engaging, and character-driven combat more than just the achievement of winning.

If you're curious, I won by using Rope Trick on my turn, using my Steel Defender's action to pull the rope into our pocket dimension, and then hiding cozily in there until one of them was finally out of combat... 😭😭 it took about 10 rounds of doing nothing (at some point, the fighter tried to play dead to make me get out of my hideout--and it almost worked!) But in the end, it was a fight between my sister's cleric and my battlesmith. She was out of spells, so it was no contest at all.

Our characters are pretty much best friends in-game, so when it was my turn to shoot her, and Luca hesitated, her cleric opened her arms to let herself get shot OUGH!! It was super sad!! 🥺--But fortunately it was a non-lethal combat, and everyone got a hefty gold prize in the end, so no hard feelings at all. (Although... I still feel kinda guilty for how that went... lol 💀 lesson learned)

Anyway! Here's Luca in the Zaratian desert, from our current campaign! I imagine that even as he's traveling through Erdin (an entirely different continent) He'd still find himself reminiscing about the sands back at home
