Astrology + Exercises + Journal Prompt for Thursday July 23rd
Sun (Leo) square Chiron (Taurus); Mercury Stations Direct (Cancer)
On Thursday, the Sun in Leo immediately encounters tension as it forms a square to Chiron in Taurus. These are fixed signs, which means the energy can feel stubborn, sticky, and emotionally charged. The Sun in Leo wants to shine, express, and radiate confidence â but Chiron in Taurus highlights insecurities around worth, safety, and visibility. This square can trigger feelings of wanting to hide, pull back, or protect yourself. It may feel unsafe to share parts of yourself freely, especially the parts that feel tender or deeply personal. Yet this transit asks us to choose differently. We can continue dimming ourselves, or we can be brave and shine anyway.
This energy helps us understand what keeps us from expressing ourselves authentically. It reveals the places where weâve been shrinking, the fears that keep us quiet, and the old wounds that make us doubt our gifts. But it also encourages us to step forward with courage. Not everyone will understand you, and not everyone is meant to. Authenticity is not about pleasing the masses â itâs about sharing your truth and in doing so, it speaks to the people who are meant to be in your corner. If you are creating for âlikes,â âfollows,â or external validation, the energy will feel hollow. But if you are sharing your art, your voice, your creativity, your joy â because it fulfills you and uplifts others in the processâ then you are aligned with your natural gifts. Ignore the naysayers. Keep doing your thing. âLet themâ misunderstand. You shine anyway.
Later in the day, Mercury stations direct in Cancer, beginning its forward motion once more. Mercury will retrace its steps a third and final time until August 6th, when it then leaves its postâretrograde shadow. From now until then, we gain more clarity on the emotional attachments, stories, and beliefs that once held us back. We begin releasing the narratives we previously created to stay safe. This is a time of purging, letting go, and seeing things from a new angle. The emotional heaviness begins to lift, and what once felt confusing starts to resolve.
In the end, our only true obligation is to ourselves â to live with full heart and authenticity. To shine even when others cast shade. To be brave in our search at discovering who we are. Once we embrace our light, everything else becomes easier. We become more generous, more compassionate, more giving. We heal others simply by being ourselves. Imagine how much better the world would be if everyone did that.
What it feels like: This energy feels tender, vulnerable, and emotionally charged. You may feel both inspired to express yourself and afraid to be seen. Both can feel true at the same time. There is a sense of confronting old insecurities while simultaneously feeling the pull to step into your light. Mercury stationing direct adds emotional understanding, helping you get clear about why certain fears arise, the old patterns behind them, and how to heal and move through them.
Positive expressions: This transit can bring breakthroughs in confidence, authenticity, and selfâexpression. You may feel empowered to share your gifts, speak your truth, or show up more boldly. Mercury direct supports emotional clarity, helping you release old stories and see yourself with more compassion. This is a powerful day for creative expression, healing visibility wounds, and reclaiming your voice.
Shadow expressions: The shadow may show up as hiding, shrinking, or retreating out of fear. You may feel triggered by old wounds around being seen or feeling misunderstood. Another shadow expression is egoic overcompensation â believing you are the best and refusing to grow. Both extremes block authentic expression. The key is humility paired with courage.
The invitation: Shine anyway. Share your gifts because they bring you joy and meaning. Be brave enough to be yourself, even when it feels scary. Release the old stories that kept you small. Trust that the people meant for you will support you. Let others misunderstand â âlet them.â Your job is to live with authenticity, warmth, and heart. When you do, you heal yourself and you heal others simply by being who you are.

Healing opportunity & Actionable Step: Releasing the Stories That Kept You Small
Aligned with Mercury stationing direct â emotional clarity, lifting of retrograde fog, and releasing old narratives.
Positive Expression:Â Emotional clarity, releasing old stories, seeing yourself with more compassion, breakthroughs in confidence and authenticity.
Shadow Expression:Â Hiding, shrinking, or retreating out of fear. Egoic overcompensation. Both extremes block authentic expression.
Actionable Step: Write a Narrative Release letter: Â Address one old story youâve been carrying about yourselfâabout your worth, your voice, your visibility. Write: âDear [old story], you kept me safe by ________. But I no longer need you. I am releasing you with gratitude.â Then write a new story: âThe truth Iâm learning is ________.â Read the new story aloud. This is not about forgetting the pastâitâs about no longer being ruled by it, and choosing differently.

Journal Prompt:
1. The Story Iâm Ready to Stop Telling Myself: Mercury direct and Sun-Chiron invite us to release old narratives that kept us small. What is one story youâve been carrying about yourselfâabout your worth, your voice, your visibilityâthat youâre ready to stop believing? Where did this story come from? Who would you be without it? Write a new storyâjust one sentenceâthat feels more true to who you are becoming.

The Large Magellanic Cloud Image Credit & Copyright: Monica Mesa Text: Cecilia Chirenti (NASA GSFC, UMCP, CRESST II)
Explanation: Have you ever seen another galaxy with your own eyes? The featured image shows the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), one of the closest neighbors of our Milky Way. If you are anywhere south of latitude 20° N (but the further south, the better), you can see it with the unaided eye if you go to a dark sky location, away from big cities and light polution. It is a dwarf irregular galaxy about 163,000 light-years away, and a member of our Local Group of galaxies. Despite being small, with a total mass approximately equivalent to 10% - 20% of the mass of the Milky Way, the LMC is very actively forming stars. This is likely due in part to the gravitational push and pull of tides caused by the Milky Way on the LMC. Some astronomers have predicted that it will collide with the Milky Way in in about 2 billion years.

today's horoscopes thursday, july 23, 2026 âš
today feels like the first deep breath after holding it for weeks. mercury stations direct in cancer this evening, beginning to lift the emotional fog that's lingered since late june. don't expect every answer to arrive at once, but conversations can finally start moving again. with the moon still in scorpio and the sun freshly in leo, honesty and courage go much farther than perfection today. đŠđ
aries âïž the pressure to fix everything immediately begins to ease. instead of rushing ahead, notice which relationships simply need a genuine conversation. your honesty opens more doors than your urgency ever could. â€ïžâđ„
taurus âïž someone may finally say what they've been holding back. listen without planning your response. understanding each other is more valuable than proving a point today. đż
gemini âïž your motivation starts returning. if work, money, or a creative project has felt stalled, today offers the first glimpse of forward movement. don't wait for perfect conditions. start where you are. đŠ
cancer âïž your voice becomes easier to trust again. you've spent weeks second-guessing yourself. today reminds you that your feelings deserve space without needing to be defended. đĄ
leo âïž leo season is here, and the spotlight isn't asking you to perform. it's asking you to be yourself. stop waiting until you're "ready." your authenticity is the whole point. âïžđŠ
virgo âïž clarity arrives in small pieces today. don't overlook the tiny breakthrough because it isn't dramatic. sometimes the answer you've been praying for whispers instead of shouts. đŒ
libra âïž you're seeing your worth a little more clearly now. stop negotiating against yourself before anyone else even has the chance. what you bring to the table deserves to be valued. âïž
scorpio âïž the moon in your sign turns your intuition all the way up. trust what feels consistent instead of what feels intense. not every strong emotion is meant to become a permanent decision. đŠ
sagittarius âïž today asks you to slow down before your energy picks back up. rest isn't delaying your path. it's preparing you to enjoy where you're headed instead of just surviving the journey. đč
capricorn âïž an old plan deserves another look. what didn't work three weeks ago may have all the pieces it needs now. revisit it with fresh eyes instead of assuming the answer is still no. đȘš
aquarius âïž communication gets lighter as the day goes on. if there's a text, email, or conversation you've been avoiding, today is a good time to gently reopen the door. đŹïž
pisces âïž hope returns quietly today. not as a lightning bolt, but as the realization that you've already survived the hardest part. now you get to imagine what comes next. đ

Itâs officially Leo season! âïž
Leo reminds us that confidence is something you build by allowing yourself to be seen⊠which is something my 12th house Sun shies away from. So, donât feel discouraged if you personally feel insecure, shy, or anxious about this energy. We all have our own unique struggles we have to work through, right?
As the Sun moves through Leo, the collective (us) will move toward themes of creativity, self-expression, romance, fun, and reconnecting with what makes us happy. The days are still warm but the pace of life is beginning to change during this time.
Vacations wind down, students prepare to return to high school or college, sports seasons begin, and people start stepping back into routines after months of summer spontaneity. Itâs a time when weâre naturally more visible. I love how astrology works like that.
This is a season of taking up space, sharing your talents, embracing your individuality, and remembering that your personality isnât âtoo muchâ for the people who are meant to appreciate it.
Additionally, this yearâs Leo season carries a more reflective tone than usual. With Saturn and Neptune retrograde in Aries and Mercury recently stationing direct, keep in mind that confidence wonât come from chasing attention or proving yourself. Leo shines naturally, so let this season be about becoming secure enough to stop seeking permission and exist entirely as yourself!
Let yourself create, flirt, laugh, wear the outfit, post the photo, start the project, or say what youâve been holding back. To become the person you want to become, you have to learn to enjoy yourself. Because⊠Who are we without self-expression?
Leo season is approaching, you know what that means đ„”đ đ
sun in leo
âš âïž
sun enters the sign of leo on july 22nd. when the sun enters leo, we see the purest expression of the sun. sun in leo falls in the middle of summer, which is perfect for leo who demands to be the center of all. during leo season we see people embrace themselves in ways that other sun cycles cannot achieve. during this season it's important to embrace the self in ways that allow for expression to shine in unfiltered ways. you say, think, and act however you desire. it's also important to step into creativity. so taking up projects that enlighten the soul is important. use this time to start new journeys of self expression, and creativity. another theme during the sun in leo is courage. this could look like anything. whatever it means to YOU, is how you will embrace courage. whether it be doing things that you have never thought possible, or finally standing up for yourself, or even finally letting go of people who were doing nothing but bring you down, this time will ask you to be courageous. this time is really beautiful for the self, it's a time to shine without fear of what others think. step into the child like spirit that resides within. embrace the fixed fire energy that is leo. use you sun/moon/rising to see the perfect affirmation for this season.

leo season || being seen is scarier than we admit
the sun moves into leo on july 22nd (happy birthday my leo fam!) and after a month in cancer, you're probably going to feel the shift in your body before you understand it in your head.
cancer season was inward. it was home, rest, staying close to the people and places where you didn't have to explain yourself. that was the point, but leo doesn't work like that. leo pulls you out into the open and asks you to be seen, and honestly that's a harder ask than it sounds.
most of us think we want to be seen. we say it all the time. i want to be recognized, i want to matter to people, i want my work to land. then the moment it actually happens, the moment someone really looks, a lot of us flinch. we deflect the compliment. we shrink the thing we just made. we get busy or we get quiet or we make a joke so nobody looks too long. wanting to be seen and being able to tolerate being seen are two different skills, and leo season tends to expose the gap between them.
so this is the season to notice what you do when the attention actually comes. do you let it in, or do you find a way to dodge it. there's no wrong answer here and you don't need to fix it overnight, but it's worth watching, because you can't receive what you keep swatting away.
leo can also tip into performing instead of being. there's a version of visibility that's really just management, where you curate the version of yourself that's safe to be seen and you show that one instead. it looks like confidence from the outside but it's actually the opposite, it's you deciding people can look at the polished part but not the real part. leo season can pull you toward that if you're not careful, especially if being truly seen has ever cost you something. and it might have. if that's you, go gentle. the goal isn't to throw yourself wide open to everyone. it's to let at least the people who've earned it see the version of you that isn't rehearsed.
here's what i would do with this season. pick one place where you've been hiding a little, a piece of work, a want, an opinion you keep softening, and let it be seen without the disclaimer attached. no "this is probably dumb but." no shrinking it before someone else gets the chance to. just put it down and let it be looked at. that's the whole practice.
leo season runs until late august and it builds toward something big, the sun meets jupiter in leo on the 29th, which is one of the most expansive days of the whole year. so consider these first days the warmup. get comfortable being looked at now, while the stakes are low.
if you want to know where leo season is lighting up your personal chart and what it's asking you to step into, readings are open at casa de novas âĄ

How do you feel about using multiple spells for a single goal? Doing wealth spells one after another until you're out of difficulties, for example, versus doing the one and letting it be?
I've got a chapter in a book I'm probably never going to publish about this. It's long. tl;dr: hell yeah cast a lot of spells for one thing, that's a great idea. Upg alert, etc.
Compound Magic: Many Hands Make Light Work
Compound magic is the phrase Iâm using to discuss two similar ideas.
The idea is that if working one act of magic can affect our physical world to any degree, then working multiple acts of magic on the same subject can affect it to a greater degree.
This works at both the macro and micro levels.
By âmacro,â I mean casting entire spells to influence various situations.
If youâre casting a home prosperity spell, casting multiple prosperity spells tends to be more beneficial than casting only one. Following our Witch-as-Monarch metaphor, you can cast spells that are like geologists seeking resources, like road-builders to strengthen trade routes, or like festival celebrations to revitalize your citizens.
More literally, if there is a situation that is resistant to change or in need of serious transformation, you can build a spellcasting altar dedicated to that single issue.
Spellcasting altars are useful in the practical sense that if youâve got a whole altar for it, you might not forget that itâs something you wanted to work on.
Theyâre also very useful in the magical sense that as you dedicate a new âcounsel roomâ to this topic and begin filling it with advisors, knights, heroes, spies, managers, and agents, and then continuously empower your Allies to work on your behalf through dedicated spellwork, all of these powers begin to compound and support each other.
In other words: the action of casting multiple spells can have additive or supportive effect which helps all the spells work better.
Not only this, but spells can begin to file away the rust on a situation and get the gears working - but run out of energy before the mechanism is truly brought to life.
If a single spell didnât appear to manifest as desired, that doesnât mean it didnât do anything. It could mean that the situation was improved behind the scenes, laying a better foundation for success for your next spell.
Therefore, compound magic also means cleverly assigning spells to loosen up a situation and prepare it for change, to banish potential roadblocks, to protect the desired outcome, to empower the desired aspects of the situation, to bind the unwanted aspects, and so forth. In this manner, casting compound magic doesnât necessarily mean to cast prosperity-generating spells over and over â it can also mean to cast banishings, protections, cleansings, and so forth, in the pursuit of prosperity.
This may all sound like a lot of work, but recall that weâre talking about very resistant situations, or situations in need of a lot of transformation before they suit your tastes. However, I hope youâll agree with me that this concept in general actually really helps take a load off, because:
If your strategy is to work multiple acts of magic, then no single act of magic you work ever has to be perfect, or even exceptional.
Spellcasting anxiety is very real, and in my opinion boils down to the worry not only that unless everything is perfect then everything is ruined, but furthermore, that if any single spell doesnât work it means the practitioner is a fraud.
If you instead adopt the mindset that itâs quite alright to need to work three or four acts of magic to influence a sticky situation, each spell feels less like youâre an actor making your debut performance in front of a judgmental audience, and much more like youâre going to try and treat the problem with a vinegar spray first, but if that doesnât lift the bonds thatâs quite alright because youâve got a baking soda scrub to try next.
This isnât to say that I think every single situation is going to require multiple spells to make the magic âwork.â Far from it. But I donât find there to be any utility at all in assuming every situation should be fixable by only one spell, and if that spell fails then thereâs something wrong.
Overall, I find that the witch who often engages in acts of magic to keep the home safe and prosperous will find that this compound effect begins to work organically, and that over time all acts of magic eventually lead to an enchanted life, to greater or lesser degrees.
On the âmicroâ side of this concept we can examine the enchantment of a single object or formula.
Instead of considering that we can use multiple spells to influence a situation, we can see that we can work many smaller acts of magic over time to produce a single powerful spell.
Think about woodburning a very hard, difficult piece of wood. During the first session you may only get an outline of the design before youâre exhausted and in need of a break. The wood is still imprinted upon, but itâs far from the completed project you envisioned.
During the next woodburning session, and the next, the design is slowly filled in until it meets your standards of satisfaction.
This is conceptually very similar to re-casting the same enchantment over and over on a single object until desired results are obtained.
This is extremely useful for the pragmatic witch who may not have the ability to plan out spells on specific times and days, or who must act now without every ideal ingredient on hand.
And not only that, but itâs also useful for the witch who would just like to have some fun with magic and doesnât want to twiddle their thumbs waiting for the most ideal possible moment to act.
If a witch would like to work up a pot of Noontide Shield Oil (pg. 34), but the working felt less than lustrous, the formula can simply be re-enchanted again next Sunday to deepen and solidify the enchantment. Or, suppose the original oil had to be worked in less than ideal conditions, or perhaps even with entire ingredients missing: the missing ingredients can be added later on, the spell re-cast over the same vessel in more ideal conditions, and so forth.
The same goes for any spell vessel, formula, charmed ingredient, or enchanted object.
These things can be fully re-enchanted by performing the original spell over again, switching focus from adding ingredients to empowering and instructing ingredients already added.
But they can also be encouraged in more minor ways, especially through regular feeding (pg. 9).
I think itâs important to note here that weâre basically talking about cooking. A chicken soup where you have to omit the chicken, and then shred up rotisserie leftovers and just add it to the broth when having leftovers, is not going to produce identical results as if you had been able to cook the chicken in the soup.
Either way, youâve still got chicken soup - it's just that an enchantment made in the most ideal conditions is not going to be identical to an enchantment made in non-ideal conditions and later fortified.
So I donât believe that itâs correct to say that ideal conditions donât matter. I think they do matter, and that practitioners will notice an appreciable improvement if they are able to work with ideal circumstances.
But I also believe itâs correct to say that if you continuously re-cast enchantments towards the same objects and formulas over and over again, while supplementing missing or lacking factors, over time that enchantment deepens and becomes more permanent and more powerful.
Just like macro compound magic, I think that this helps reduce the difficulty in working powerful enchantments. You donât have to work yourself up to exhaustion casting a single powerful enchantment that wipes out your ability to work magic for three days. You can meter your energy and pour out small amounts of your power, when needed or as desired, and slowly build up powerful magics around you.
Then, when an important âmacroâ situation arises, consider how it would feel to be able to reach for a variety spell vessels and formulas youâve already been empowering for months, keeping them fresh and alive through periodic attention and feeding. Things begin to feel much less like a witch alone in a room, and much more like an empowered monarch surrounded by Allies.
sun into leo
happy leo season, and happy birthday leo sun people! the sun loves to be here, and even in the dog days of summer there is a real magic to sunny leo season imo.
