In a way Jay doesn't really know that Sun brought him to eat Pad Thai because it reminds me of his mom's cuisine. This "date" may be more meaningful than what it may appear to be. Also, if Jay was a bit taken aback at first, he still enjoyed it anyway. I know Sun made fun of Jay for not knowing how to season his dish, but he still took the time to explain it to him. I don't know, I felt like this scene was showing more about Sun. Again, he isn't as apathetic as he appears to be. He cares and feels a lot. It just doesn't as much as others on his face. He still feels regrets and sadness. The pain can't numb all of that. Pad Thai is his own taste dredging up a long-lost memory of happier time. He shared it with Jay even if the latter doesn't know it (yet?).
