001 - pristine christine / sullen eyes / everglades (the sea urchins)

honestly its nothing revolutionary or anything like theres lots of early and contemporary twee/jangle/whatever pop that sounds similar but its still just plain good and fun to listen to. one of those things that im maybe not seeking out all the time but if someone plays it youre like yeah this rocks

002 - i've got a habit / give me some peppermint freedom / apologies (the orchids)

kind of all over the place honestly. the first track is nice but unmemorable. the more i listen to it the more i actually hate the second track (the mixing is bad, not a fan of the instrumentation and the transition into the chorus). and the third is pretty good!

003/004 - anorak city (another sunny day)

im just going to lay my biases out and say that i am way more inclined towards the noise pop than the twee side of C86/jangle stuff so i think this is fantastic (other than the vocal mixing which is a little underwhelming). i think harvey williams is more known for that one incel smiths song he did later which like fine. but this is way better and my favorite of the earliest sarah stuff. (004 is some zine that this was packaged with which i am not bothering to find)

005 - come get me / sure to see / unhappy days (14 iced bears)

these songs all have a lot going for them but theyre each kind of less than the sum of their parts unfortunately. come get me is probably the weakest track but it still has very solid guitar work, the key changes on sure to see are very neat, unhappy days starts off like a jangle band covering wire (this is a good thing. obviously.) i think in all 3 cases the vocals are kinda bad and bland and they're very high in the mix so they tend to obscure the cooler instrumentation. i know people like the later records from these guys and i can totally imagine them finding their footing and outputting something really good even if this isnt quite there
