Gordian Cot Separated

So, I was looking at separated beds, and I came across the Gordion Cot separated on MTS. Cool, right? So why did I make this? ...It required Outdoor Retreat. Odd, because I don't own that pack, but it looked familiar. Lo and behold, it turns out that the Gordian Cot was made BGC at some point! Not exactly sure when or why, but hey, not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth. ((I made this mainly bc I didn't know if the pack-dependent one still required the pack))

Hi. So, learnt that CC bedframes can cause issues with dorms, roommates, stayovers, etc if tagged as beds. I've fixed the issue, and the frames are now categorised under Decorations (Misc). If you have trouble finding it in the catalogue, search "mothy" and it should appear.

Cheers! Redownload the bedframe from the same links, and send an ask if you run into any issues :^)

might just be me but when a flat model has AO.. there's a certain je ne sais quoi that makes it look so stinkin' pretty.

it does bother me tho that the texture has a little bit of noise in it, despite having 250 samples AND denoise enabled. might have to do a higher samplecount, or I might do a little blurring to smoothen things out

W.I.P. Sneakpeek

Finally getting back into CC-making and picked up an old project. It's a little slow going, because my project organisation is awful, so I've been cleaning it up.

First thing other than spring cleaning: redoing textures! There's a suuuuper subtle difference between the two benches, which is baking AO with a floor VS without. I'm aiming for this set to have total 2 benches, 2 couched and a maaaybe an armchair if it doesnt look too bad? Ive got a few more items I want to add, but for the sake of my sanity, I'll put them in a Part 2

TUTORIAL - Changing the default layout when S4S exports a Blend file

Only found tutorials online for changing the layout when you make a new file with The Cube™, but it doesn't affect S4S-exported Blend files. This will do that.

What this doesn't cover: Actually editing the layout. You'll have to play around yourself, but you'll be able to find most things by right-clicking.

*Pay Attention*

I might lose some popularity over this, but I'm not entirely concerned over that - what I am concerned about is people who play this game who aren't creators or who don't test every piece of content they put in their games, and their computers which they paid good money for.

I know as a creator how quickly polycount can rise, and I also know how much it sucks to lose details because you're trying to keep polycount low. But let me show you something -

Do you see a difference in these? Look closely, really study it for a second.

One has 14,077 poly. One has 4,014.

You tell me which one is which.

Here's the thing, I downloaded a beautiful set that I knew had to be high poly simply by looking at it. I always drool over this particular creator (and others) BECAUSE their stuff is beautiful, I get it. I'm an addict like all the rest of ya. Knowing this, I checked each mesh and was disappointed to yet again find thousands of polys on these meshes. One was over 35,000 polys for a decorative item.

That's stupid.

I decimated this object down to 4K without it losing any quality. I've done this with several items in my game because there's NO POINT in having 10,000 extra faces or more for the game to carry for absolutely no purpose whatsoever.

Please, creators - converters - players and downloaders, pay attention to what you're putting in your system. If you can lower the polycount when you're converting to TS3, take the extra step and do so. I have a tutorial on my page - it takes a few minutes to click a button a few times and maybe separate parts of the mesh to help it out a bit. If you're going to put it out for download as is, PLEASE for the love of all things holy put a disclaimer on it TELLING people that it has thousands of polycounts in it, so they can at least be aware of the bomb they're adding to their mods folders.

We all like to cram a bunch of crap into our games and decorate to our hearts content, but stuff like this puts our systems and save files at LITERAL risk. If you have an amazing computer to handle it (I have an amazing computer to handle it) great, but not everyone does. Keep that shit in mind before you release something with the digital weight of an elephant.

This is even more important for TS2. Our beloved elderly game is _terrible_ at handling high poly objects. TS3 only shows what it has to, things that are nearby. It and TS4 can both use lower poly versions of things that aren't nearby. TS2 loads every single thing on the lot, at whatever poly count it is. So if you're not careful, a sim wearing a 7000 poly outfit, 30k poly hair, sitting on a 20k poly sofa...you get the idea. It can cause the game to lag, and worse. It could harm your computer. It doesn't really matter how good your computer is. If you use a ton of high poly stuff, it's still a risk.

listen to me, I get it, hp stuff is easy and pretty, but good lord it puts a strain on your game and even on your computer if it's old. if you're a creator, especially for older games (but in general really) I implore you to at least list the polycounts of the stuff you're releasing to the public. If you're not a creator, at least pay attention to poly counts, learn what the averages are for your preferred game. request that creators and converters list the polycounts so you know what you're putting in your game. I've downloaded lovely deco objects and then lowered the polycounts by hand because they wrecked my frame rate when I tried to play with them in game. and tbh there really isn't an excuse for a deco object or food clutter or whatever to be 20,000 polys. A bowl of fruit or a stack of books shouldn't be that high a number in a game. I see it a lot from objects that are purchased off of turbo squid or whatnot and converted to ts4/etc. those objects aren't meant for gameplay, they're meant for animation. they're high poly as hell because they're meant to be rendered not put in a live system.

[ReShade 5.1+] No More CAS UI & More

Well, dang. I guess it is possible after all. I was looking for a way to hide the UI in CAS via some complicated method, but instead found a site which led me to this guide to a ReShade add-on called ShaderToggler 🤩 I haven’t found someone create a TS4 tutorial for this yet so here ya go.

Plaid PJ Pants

I am incredibly in love with the original mesh and textures, however, I needed more colours and plaid options! Unfortunately, lots of plaid CC I've come across are a little too alpha-looking for my tastes (and some kinda hurt my eyes ngl). So, I've made these fashionable recolours. Initially just for masc frame, I ended up making matching textures for child and fem frames! If you're in Creator Musings on Discord, these may look familiar bc these were my submission to the gift pile :D Anyways, enjoy!

I used @madameriasims4 's Customisable Plaids resource and made these! Mesh is unedited, but they are indeed 3 different meshes bc I hate the weird stance fem framed sims get when given masc bottoms. If you like these pants, be sure to check MadameRia out! She has high-quality everyday wear for your sims (yes, even for masc sims!!!).
