remember when people would draw their interpretations of frisk in the genocide timeline? kind of the same uncanny valley until there’s no way they’re what they’re pretending to be. kind of the same concept? i read a post on tumblr (im pretty sure i reblogged it) where the poster was questioning whether Ralsei even looks like his pixel art. At the end of chapter 5, Asgore says something about ralsei, that if he looked long enough, ralsei would begin to look uncanny, and he’d even question whether he was a goat monster at all.
They’re really rough sketches, just got something on the page. It’s not what i think ralsei would really look like. But I have an idea.
There are these hatchimal toys i used to have as a kid that would move around, flap their wings, and talk. They look light fluffy, but whenever i would pick it up, i would be met with a hard, uncomfortable surface and they’d be surprisingly heavy. That’s kind of what I imagine Ralsei’s fur would be like? It’s like when people stapel fabric onto something 3d printed.
I personally have the theory that Ralsei isn’t an object but a memory of asriel, and when it comes to memories, they can be very idealised; two dimensional. That’s not to say ralsei as a character is two dimensional, just that Kris forgot the details of Asriel when he was a kid, the similar age of kris. Like those artworks where it makes sense in one perspective, but… when you look at it from a different angle, it completely breaks apart.
