These three fucking legends
Friendly reminder that the intro to Lion King….the non english bits leading up to the “circle of life” is not random yelling in *Africa voice* it is an actual language, Zulu, spoken by 10 million people, it is the most widely spoken language (out of 11) in the country of South Africa (1 out of the 54 countries in the continent of Africa, the continent home to somewhere between 1500-2000 languages and around 3000 distinct ethnic groups)
this isn’t to say that you have to friggin learn the language to sing along with a disney film, it just means that you should be mindful, respectful, appreciative and respectful. don’t be yelling out whatever noise comes in to your head when you hear it
Ok but someone knows what does this say?
The lyrics before the english comes in…in “circle of life”
Nants ingonyama bagithi baba [Here comes a lion, Father] Sithi uhm ingonyama [Oh yes, it’s a lion] Nants ingonyama bagithi baba [Here comes a lion, Father] Sithi uhm ingonyama [Oh yes, it’s a lion] Ingonyama [It’s a lion] Siyo Nqoba [We’re going to conquer] Ingonyama Ingonyama nengw’ enamabala [A lion and a leopard come to this open place] (repeats) [queue English lyrics]
I would like to further add that language has there own cultural nuances so something that can sound extremely meaningful in one languages may not sound as majestic when translated to another (I know this as someone who has an understanding of 5 languages and speaks 3 of them fluently) so if you are thinking “oh it ain’t that deep they are just yelling: the lion is coming!” dial it back
Worth noting that “lion” and especially the word Ingonyama is a very respectful word to talk about a Zulu king, especially in praise. It’s so heavily associated with royalty in isiZulu that a different word is used for an animal lion - Ibhubesi. This isn’t just announcing the arrival of an animal, it’s celebrating the arrival (or coronation?) of the king
/\ Whoop, I didn’t know this
This is so informative thank you so much

We need a Karamo Bible
“Gay parents will damage their kids” BITCH WHERE.
One of my few complaints about Queer Eye is how it buries Karamo’s training and experience as a SOCIAL WORKER in the title of “culture” or whatever. The world needs many more social workers and much more respect for the field.
He’s gonna be a mighty king and he’s working on that roar.

No matter what she says, that was no joke. Particularly not when Betsy DeVos has made it clear that she fully intends to accelerate the school-to-prison pipeline to incarcerate black children en masse. And Ms. Swearingen is very obviously, FULLY aware of what would likely happen to a black child if she made that false report to the police. Shanna Swearingen’s “joke” was barely more than a veiled death threat to special needs black children.
This was not just another racist educator, but a school principal. I feel sorry for the black children under her “supervision”. She obviously doesn’t think much of them, nor does she care about their safety.
Fuck you Shanna Swearingen. I hope you fucking lose your job.
I can’t wait for the day a woman’s strength isn’t dictated by how much abuse she can endure
On the National Day of Prayer, he establishes a new faith-based initiative that's bound to be bad news for LGBT people.
Yesterday was the National Day of Prayer, and our hate-thy-neighbor-ing president marked the occasion by issuing an executive order that could end up hurting LGBTQ people.
The White House Faith and Opportunity Initiative, to be led by a yet-to-be-named White House adviser, will “provide recommendations on the Administration’s policy agenda affecting faith-based and community programs; provide recommendations on programs and policies where faith-based and community organizations may partner and/or deliver more effective solutions to poverty; apprise the Administration of any failures of the executive branch to comply with religious liberty protections under law; and reduce the burdens on the exercise of free religion,” according to a White House press release.
The initiative will “help ensure that faith-based organizations have equal access to government funding and equal right to exercise their deeply held beliefs,” Trump said at the White House Rose Garden ceremony this morning, CBS reports. This could perhaps mean that religious groups could evade antidiscrimination law and continue to hold government contracts even if they demonstrate bias against LGBT people, members of other faiths, or any other group.
Sigh. We cannot catch a break.
