this pride month we’re all going to be radically pro transgender. or else.
hey so this means radically pro ALL transgender. don’t put limitations on this. all trans people are radically accepted here.

My dear lgbt+ kids,
I want to talk about a very specific trans boy experience today: female friends or family members trying to pull you into „all men suck“ conversations.
These might not be outright biological essentialism conversations (some pseudoscientific nonsense like „Men are biologically hardwired to be abusive and violent“). Most often, it’s just private rants: their boyfriend did something shitty or a male customer at work acted creepy or their ex cheated and they are actually just mad at that guy specifically but express it in a „why are all men always shitty“ way.
It’s a special type of uncomfortable. They are indirectly, subtly misgendering you by excluding you from „all men“ as a group (even if they do not directly say „I see you as a girl and therefore expect you to agree with me that men, which to me you are not a part of, are assholes“ out loud and they may in fact not even consciously think that, they do put you in a separate category than men just by silently assuming that they can say „all men are shit“ to you without insulting you.)
But it’s a type of misgendering that can’t just simply be fixed by changing the words used. It’s not a „You are my sister“ „Please call me your brother“ situation that can be corrected just like that. You likely would not feel much better if they went „all men, including you, are shit“ instead.
It’s not a linguistic problem, it’s a worldview problem, and those are much harder to correct. The actual issue is, of course, the assumption that a group of individuals can be by default bad due to something that’s out of their control - and that applies to „men“ as a group as much as it would apply to „women“ or „people of color“ or „elderly people“ or „gay people“. Saying „all of them suck“ just… sucks.
Individuals can be shitty for lots of things that are within their control: their behavior, the way they treat others, their opinions etc. And some groups hold a special power position in society that makes it easier for them to be shitty and not face serious consequences. That does apply to „men“ as a group, and maybe for that reason we can not fully equate saying „all men suck“ with saying „all women suck“ - the latter is born in a misogynistic society, the former may just be a simplistic way to express „the patriarchy allows or even rewards male individuals for shitty behavior“. Which may just be why this stereotype of „women bond by getting together and complaining about how all men suck“ exists in the first place!
But that’d be a whole lot to say when all your sister wants to do is just to go „Ugh all men are the same, I just found out my boyfriend cheated on me again, I hate men!“ and get a sympathetic „Men are the worst!“ back. You may not want to go „well actually, gender does not make anyone a cheater, your boyfriend is just an asshole, but then again growing up in a patriarchal society may play a role in why you forgave him the first time, so I understand your frustration, it’s a nuanced topic“ right there - or at least I do not when I find myself in that position.
So, I just want to give you a hug and tell you that I get it. You’re allowed to feel uncomfortable with it.
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad
You're allowed to ask people not to do this with you by the way. Like it's completely okay to say, at a time they're not actively upset, "Hey, as a trans man I struggle with people making negative generalisations about men. It puts me in a really weird position, which makes it hard for me to support you the way you need. Could you please vent about your boyfriend/customer/boss/etc to someone else?"
If I have a strong relationship with them, sometimes I talk about how that stuff makes me feel, like worrying that they think I should go back in the closet. A good friend of mine flipped from trying to trying to rope me in to that stuff to being a really staunch ally when I pointed out to them that it was messed up to ask me to say I hate the gender I transitioned to. But I tend to save that stuff for people I know really care about me as a person, because most of the time they don't have any reason to care.
I also want to stress that you don't have to suck it up to prove that you're a good man. Trans men and transmascs face unique pressures that cis men don't -- namely, the pressure to go back into the closet as a woman -- so people making negative generalisations about men to us hits differently than it does for cis men. I can only speak for myself, but I used to just try and suck it up and mentally exclude myself from the generalistations; eventually I hit a wall where I couldn't do it any more and the self-loathing I'd built up hit me like a tidal wave. So don't be me.
There really is no feeling quite like discovering a new song that fits your blorbo to a T. Best I can do to convey it is something like
Shoutout to the person who reblogged this 185 times in a row. I understand completely.
men or women it doesn’t matter at the end of the day this is an england test team
"no children are being forced to take hrt or have surgeries that change the appearance of their genitals" intersex children are, actually
"everyone was assigned a gender at birth" there are intersex people who were not assigned a gender at birth
"trans women are amab trans people and trans men are afab trans people" there are intersex people who were assigned male at birth and later transitioned medically and socially to male, and intersex people who were assigned female at birth and later transitioned medically and socially to female
"assigned gender at birth is a 1:1 predictor of tma vs tme experience" there are intersex people who were assigned female at birth and experienced violence for being a woman with a penis + testes + secondary sex characteristics like facial hair + having a testosterone-dominant hormone profile, and had to transition medically and socially to be socially and medically recognized as women as adults
"bodies born with sex variations are medically nonbinary" no, they are intersex, and intersex people can be a binary gender if they want to be
"nonbinary people who want non-cisnormative sex variations are mentally ill/diseased for wanting a disordered body" no, bodies with sex variations are not disordered, and it harms intersex people for them to be seen as disordered regardless of if the body in question was born that way or created through surgery
"cis women don't experience transphobic body policing/will never understand how it feels to have your womanhood constantly in question and subject to violence over things you can't change" intersexism overlaps heavily with transphobia and an intersex woman can both identify as cis and have a penis, testes, be testosterone-dominant, etc, and have visible signs of those traits. an intersex woman can also have been amab or be currently legally designated as male by the government and still identify as cis.
stop saying intersexist shit in your trans discourse thanks
