I am a proud Harry Styles Defender
to all the critics of what Harry had to say in his new Rolling Stone interview:
I get really fired up about some of the debates and critiques that I see from LGBTQ+ people about Harry. "He needs to come out! He's queerbaiting!" "We've only ever seen him with women like Olivia Wilde and Taylor Swift!" Listen!!! When we say things like this, we are forgetting very important principles of our community AND ignoring a behavior of Harry's that needs to be included in this conversation! And I need to call this out!
i know this take is a little ironic but *shrug*
i go into more detail about my thoughts on the queer representation in DC Harley Quinn here
Taylor is going to have a giant inflatable plane fly over the stadium on her next tour
a crazy clown riding off into the sunset with her super-powered ecoterrorist girlfriend is something that can be so personal
May I ask your thoughts on cis straight people doing drag? For context, I'm questioning, but there's still a chance I might just land on cishet & gnc. I recently discovered drag kings exist & I'm a bit obsessed? It's like a love letter to gender and hate mail to the enforced gender binary all in one, & such a cool way to play around with expression. I'm mesmerized. I'd love try it but I'm worried if I end up being cishet I'll be intruding. What are your thoughts, if you're comfortable sharing?
Your understanding of drag is so spot on! and for that reason I think you should shake off that fear of intruding and give drag a shot.
I think declaring who can and can't do drag is a slippery slope - where do you draw the line? What if you end up excluding people who are in the process of self discovery and act as a roadblock on their journey, instead of a beautiful, magical help?
That being said, though, I do think that cis straight people should be conscious of the way they move through the drag scene and the space that they take up within the community. Drag is an LGBTQ+ art form.
This is a great question with a variety of complex answers, but that's my opinion!

Harry Styles didn’t end up playing Elvis but he should absolutely play David Bowie in the eventual Oscar-bait biopic
