DRAFT ARCHIVE: The Reign of Mad King Ryan
Part One, The Rise of The Monster Within
               Chapter 7: Exilation as EdgarÂ
Curious. Did you know that Iâve spent broken time over the span of almost two years trying to put together a trilogy for the Reign of Mad King Ryan as a written fiction short story, graphic novel, and an animated series? The project started with a lot of motion, but it had difficulty getting off, since I took so long to write it. Iâve completed PART ONE, am working on PART TWO, and await PART THREE upon completion of the second part. Well, enough jibberjabber, hereâs the teaser chapter (the most exciting one without giving away the more epic climax in later chapters)⊠although, from the illustration of Chapter 7, you could tell what happens after Chapter 5.

Chapter 5 Infiltration :
The citizens gathered around the heartof Achievement City. Normally, gatherings would occur in secrecy, but there was no time to waste. Geoff was EDGARâD. Â
âWe need to save him!â Ray told everyone. Michael shifted uncomfortably on his spot.Â
âYeah, okay. But how? Ryanâs not just gonna give him back when we ask for Geoff⊠no matter how nicely.â Michael said.
âWeâre not going to just walk in. Ryan stole Geoff from us. Weâre going to steal him back. We need to infiltrate the compound.â Ray replied sternly. âGavin and Iâll go through the back door. We are the only ones small and light enough to pass through the ventilation systems.â Gavin nodded in agreement.Â
âMichael, Jack, I need you two to take care of the guards and give us an escape route when we get out.â
âAlright. You have the strength of my diamond sword.â Responded Michael.
âAnd my Mark Nutt bowâŠâ said Gavin.
âAnd my iron axe.â agreed Jack. Ray smiled slyly at the impromptu reference. And there, the four citizens who dared to face The Mad King set off to their respective houses, preparing for the night that will come.
As the zombies and skeletons rose from the dark, the team reassembled outside what used to be Kung-Fu house. Where a humble mud hut with murals used to stand, now, there exists a fortress next to Geoffâs tall, ego-reflective, now barren, monolith. The team hid behind a step, near the sad lava pit. Gavin looked over his shoulder, at the sign with mild contempt, reminded of what a terrible use of the non-existent word, âGubbinâ.Â
Smack! Michael slapped Gavin on the back of the head to get him focused again. âDid you even hear a word what Ray just said?â Michael asked.
âUhhhh⊠wot?â Gavin shook the cobwebs out of his head. âRight. Totally. The plan⊠to get Geoff. We⊠uh⊠go in, and we get Geoff, and we get him out⊠right?â
âYes. Thatâs EXACTLY it.â Ray exasperatedly replied, full of sarcasm. âJust stick to me, and donât fuck up.â
âLike if ânot fucking upâ is even actually possible with Gavin.â Michael muttered under his breath. Jack just stood aside, sharpening his shiny iron axe, trying his very best to ignore the bickering of what would be Team Lads. âOh! Are we finally going to go now?â Jack suddenly acted up with mock surprise.Â
The team then split into two groups. Michael and Jack advanced up the front, pressing against each side of the fortressâ main gate. Gavin and Ray approached Geoffâs monolith to access The Vault, which King Ryan had expanded into for storage and EDGAR imprisonment purposes. Michael and Jack had come upon a slight problem. âWhat are those guards?â Michael whispered to Jack, whom was on the adjacent door side.âI think⊠no way. Minotaur-things?â Jack replied, forgetting to whisper, lost in shock. Apparently, King Ryan had decided to guard his new-found fortress with half-bull, half-man, full-on beast guards⊠and they just found out that our protagonists were trying to infiltrate the installation.âOh, balls!â Michael exclaimed.
âYou mean, âOh, bulls!â, Michael.â Jack taunted with a terrible pun.
âFuck off, Barbara.â Michael retorted as he nonchalantly drew his sword.Â
Meanwhile, X-Ray and Vav were still stuck at the door of Geoffâs house. No, itâs not broken. Itâs just the damn button.
âOkay⊠Gavin, you push the button, and I go in⊠got it? One, two-â Ray managed to say before being interrupted.
âBut I want to go in first!â, Gavin protested like a child.
âFinnneeeeâŠ.â  replied Ray, with a heavy emphasis on the âFâ. Gavin squealed with glee as he approached the doorstep.Â
âOn three, Gavin. One, TwoâŠââThree!â BAM! Gavinâs head just snapped back as the door swung open. He then quickly doubled over, face in his hands.âUGH! Muy Nouse! Duh dor het muy nouse!â Gavin blindly swung his head around as Ray facepalmed. How could he have not seen this ahead of time? It was technically impossible for Gavinâs giant nose to not hit the automatic door as it swung open⊠It happened before when he tried to ambush Geoff from his own house. Nothing stated that it wouldnât happen again. And so, it did.
âCome on, Vav. No time to waste now.â Ray sighed as he grabbed a nose-bleeding Gavin by the collar through the door, now stuck ajar.
âOh, jeeezus.â muttered Gavin as Ray struck the torch alight. Gavin evidently wasnât prepared for what awaited as they entered. Not only was Geoffâs place abandoned, the giant room was either ransacked or some tornado ran through it. The bed was destroyed, the indoor swimming pool was drained, and personal effects were strewn around. Gavin walked up the beaten nightstand and looked down. An unframed photograph laid on the ground. Gavin picked it up and blew off the dust. That wasnât enough, so he wiped it with the hem of his shirt. A light gasp left his lips.
âGriffon and Millie!â Gavin shouted out at Ray. âShite. We need to save them, too! Come on! Weâve got to stop wasting time.â and with that, he bolted over to the trapdoor and forced it open. He jumped down, and Ray quickly followed with a new sense of urgency.Â
âRAGH! Take that!â screamed Michael, as he took another swing at the guard. The minotaur deftly blocked Mogarâs attack, and countered with itâs own golden sword.
âOh, no, you donât!â roared Jack, as he came to Michaelâs aid, but he, too, was knocked aside. This isnât looking very good for the front team.
âNow what?â Ray sighed as he bumped into Gavin for the umpteenth time. âYou have to stop stopping abruptly.â
âStop stopping? At this?â Gavin replied with indignation, as if this time it actually was something meaningful.
âItâs dark. I canât see it!â Ray argued back.
   âItâs⊠itâs blocked.â Gavin whimpered back.
As Rayâs eyes squinted to focus in what was in front of them, he could see that, indeed, their way was blocked. âI didnât bring a pickaxe. Did you?â asked Ray.Â
Gavin sighed.âItâs in Michaelâs backpack.â Gavin said as his shoulders slumped.
âWell, we better start punching.â Ray surrendered.
âRight. And by âweâ, you meant âmeâ.â Gavin accused.
âGuilty as charged. Now start punching, Gavin.âÂ
âWeâre losing ground, Michael!â Jack shouted over to him, locked in battle with a guard.
âBullshit, Jack!â Michael shouted back with a smirk, slaying another minotaur. But as our heroes fight off the guards, more replace them. Eventually, they were getting worn down.Â
âDonât think we can actually provide a way out for the extraction, JackâŠâ Michael huffed. His face was covered in cuts and blood spatters. Exhausted to the point that he had no ounce left in him to fight, Michael knelt down in the mud. A shadow overtook him. He looked up.Â
âMICHAEL!â Jackâs distant voice yelled. The monstrosity of a minotaur towered over Michaelâs crouched figure.
Jack and Michael only hoped in this short second that Ryan does take prisoners. Â
âThereâŠâ Gavin said as he wiped sweat off his brow. Ray pushed some of the cobblestone out of the way and peered inside. âEYAAAK!â screeched Gavinâs phone. Gavin quickly reached into his pocket and picked up the call.
âGavin. Itâs Jack. Weâre in trouble. We could use some help. Get your ass to the clocktower and snipe.â
âRay, I gotta go. Good luck getting the prisoners out.â Gavin turned to Ray after hanging up. He then darted off, headed for the stairwell. Ray had an odd feeling about this, but he just shrugged it off. He prepared the rope and took off the vent cover. He sighed, and then crawled in, prone. Ray tried his best to stay silent as he made his way through the narrow pipes. He finally, after a mind-numbing labyrinth, made it through to the EDGAR-ing compound.
âNow⊠find Geoff.â Ray said to himself as he brushed the dust off himself.Â
Gavin made his way up the clocktower, running the stairs. Once he saw the night sky lit by the moonlight, he exhaled to breathe in the cold air.Â
BOOF! A blunt pain hits Gavin in the stomach. âBollocks! Why is it always me who takes the physical beating?â Behind the bell, a shadow formed. âRYAN?!âÂ
âItâs âYour Majestyâ to you, Gavin.â A deep voice replied. With a clatter, a cheap cellphone fell on the ground, before being kicked off the tower. âItâs the great part about having the same voice as one of your associates. I donât need to pretend anything to lure you here.â
âBut⊠Have you seen your atrocities?!â Gavin questioned in outrage.
âAtrocities? Youâre kidding. I am the Mad King. I shall do whatever as I please.â Ryan responded. Gavin let out a cry of frustration before pulling the bow, aimed at Ryanâs chest.Â
âGet that out of here.â Ryan said, as he easily knocked the bow out of Gavinâs hand. The bow fired into the bell, producing a loud âGONGâ as it dropped down to what seemed like an abyss from the high vantage of the tower.Â
âMINIONS!â Ryan called out as some shadowy figures arose out of the dust. âTake him. Punish him with Decree 80.â The dark figures closed in on Gavin. âKerry, you take Gavin to the treasoner room. Iâll see to him soon. The rest of you, find Ray. I know heâs here.â
Gavin stared at the short figure that just nodded, in complete shock.Â
