Ladies and gentlemen, this is vitiligo. For those who don’t already know, vitiligo is a skin condition effecting just a handful of people worldwide. During the 50’s up until recently, little has been known of the disease or even said about it. Michael Jackson however, is the worlds most famous victim of the disease. He got the genetic condition from his Grandfather, and Michael’s son Prince also has the disease. It effected Michael from early childhood, and continued to do so for the remainder of his life. In earlier eras such as Jackson Era, Off The Wall Era, and Thriller Era Michael was able to cover up his vitiligo spots with makeup as it was less evident. However during Bad Era onward, his entire body began to get lighter and so Michael would spend hours daily applying full body makeup to try make himself seem less hideous than he already did to himself. Michael’s self confidence was ridiculously weak anyway as he would often describe himself as ‘ugly’ and ‘not a handsome man’. Once he even said he looked like a ‘lizard’. Michael went to desperate lengths to try make himself appear better so he could be at peace within himself, but what i can tell you is that bleaching his skin is not one of those lengths. His body was wrought with the disease and these pictures show just a small part of that. One major factor that’s often forgotten is that Michael grew up in front of millions, watching his every move. He wanted to look good, and he would do anything possible to achieve that. He continued to wear makeup on areas which he would show- hands, chest, face, neck etc.- But wouldn’t you do the same? People would speculate about his condition and still do today, while many are still convinced that he was ashamed of his race. How was he supposed to defend himself? Run around stark naked carrying all his medical records, so that everyone could see for themselves? No, because Michael had dignity and Michael had pride. Reblog this post to spread the word about Michael’s disease and hopefully bring these disgusting rumours to an abrupt end.
