You’re making money...life is good. One day at church, you hear about another woman whose addiction is rendering her helpless from taking care of her 3 kids. Not wanting to see the kids split up and/or placed in foster care, you raise your hand and say that the siblings can live with you. You’ll stand in the gap to love and provide for their needs. You’ve never been a parent before but you just trust that God will see you through. You’re getting the swing of things and within 3 years, you’ve become a family. But without warning, you lose your job. You kick into survival mode but the bills are kicking it into overdrive as you’d support yourself and this family of four. You deplete your 401K to keep a roof over everyone’s head, food on the table, and the utilities paid. Then the car dies. There is no money to fix the hefty repairs. With no one to really run to and offer relief, you figure out how to make it but just barely. Could you imagine the sadness...just 3 years prior, you had it all...so much so that you decided to be God’s hands and feet. Can you imagine the questioning of “God, where are you? I did this for you?” It doesn’t mean you’ve lost faith but your light is pretty dim. That’s the real life story of “Ashley”. • As I volunteer with Cornerstone School in Washington, DC, I learned of her story. Ashley is preparing to sell the house but her biggest need right now is a car to get to a new job and to transport one of the kids to medical visits that have become a bit more frequent. She stood in the gap for these siblings during one of the most devastating moments of their lives, let’s stand in the gap for her. Nothing fancy...just a car to get her from Point A to Point B, registration costs and insurance payments for two months. WE CAN DO THIS!
