Cinderella...
Okay, so everyone is all over this one:
Right now it’s like the only thing that exists, it’s canon, it’s the best, it was expensive, the dress and all that. Yeah, yeah.
Well, I would like to present you yet another version that rocks Christmas every year in several countries in Europe, such as Germany or Norway. Because once you try it, you can’t let go.
Three Wishes for Cinderella
What I’m gonna put against the blue dress of 2015 is actually a seventies Germany and Czechoslovakia co-production. Yup, I said seventies. Costumes done by the same person as for the Oscard-awarded Amadeus. Every like three minutes there is a priceless phrase or pun. You literally don’t stop laughing while the story doesn’t loose it’s quality and pace. Let me introduce you.
Cinderella is a strong female character, seventeen. Old good story, mother died, father married again and died, leaving Cinderella with her stepmother and stepsister.
Yeah, just one sister and wow, she’s not ugly, because even pretty people can be mean and proud. They are not poor and they own an estate full of servants who all know who Cinderella is but can do nothing about it. Aside from secret support.
And then we have the prince. Early twenties, a bit spoiled and cheeky ninny, who runs from diplomacy and history lessons to do some hunting and pranks.
He and his two buddies. All ninnies.
The prince actually has both parents, who are actually intelligent. Father decides to marry his son to calm him down.
And Cinderella? No fairy grandmother, she gets three hazelnuts and eventually discovers that each of them hides a set of clothes. The rest is on herself.
First nut: Hunter clothes. She dresses as a young hunter and beats the prince and all his hunters fair and square in crossbow shooting (trained by her father).
Second nut: A ball gown. She goes to the ball, catches prince’s eye, they dance, he want’s to see her face, she gives three riddles, he can’t answer, she runs away and he goes after her. No midnight, no disappearing clothes, yay!
Third nut: When all seems lost. This one is a secret.
