One thing I miss the most about NOLA (other than the food and my friends) is THUNDERSTORMS.
Nothing quite like curling up with a book and a cup of tea in the middle of July while everything outside is crackling and electric and listening to the torrents of water pounding on the glass as the deluge comes down and cools off the miserable summer heat. Or getting caught in the sudden downpour at the beginning and being drenched in warm rain as you sprint for shelter and everyone is shrieking and laughing too hard to breathe and then you just stop running bc you’re all soaked through anyway so you just casually walk home or to wherever you parked as though it’s totally normal to be walking under those conditions.
I’ve been in NY for seven and a half years now and I’m pretty sure I can only remember two or three REALLY satisfying thunderstorms. Funny, the things that make you homesick.
That feeling when the air is thick and the wind is heavy and you can smell the rain just about to start is my favorite. I tell people it is when I get my full Stevie Nicks witch powers.
