This is the time of wireless service. In 2016, there is 88.5% of Canadian access internet – an increase by 37.2% compare to 2000 (Trends and More: Internet Users: Canada Internet Users, 2016). Analyze what benefits internet has impacted on business, it is easy to tell that geographical boundaries are no longer obstructing project work and information sharing. Back to the very long time ago, when advertising was only through newspaper, radio and television, it was only focus on certain audiences. Nowadays, many business companies research their customer behavior online. It improves business-customer relationship; at the same time they will provide better customer service. Moreover, internet has a huge impact on business since it increases the opportunity of collaboration in B2B (business-to-business). Wireless service and telecommunication allow people communicate and send information in seconds. One of the most important things is the invention of cloud computing which enable the procedure and storing records in large quantity. Using internet at work is more efficiency and effectively since it has cost effective. Marketing department are concerning to use e-marketing to replace physical marketing. Also, the number of internet users which is rapidly increasing globally, shows that any company without internet could be consider backwards and slow down compare to the international development. Everything has their advantages and disadvantages, even internet brings more benefits, it could be the reason that employees excuse to the laziness and lack of productivity. In conclusion, the internet has opened up a new road of conducting business in both positive and negative way. The manager not only takes benefits from the developing business communication, but also protects their business from internet world.

It is understandable to use some times at work to release stress rather than working straight eight hours a day; however, using uncontrollable time is considered “time theft” at work. For example, in 2009 Mr. Andrews – working as a senior analyst in the Department of Citizenship and Immigration, was fired after spent half of his work time on download over 300 pornographic photos, and surfing unrelated sites at work (Waldie, 2012). The government believed he was using his “paid time” for non-related working which effect overall department’s performance. One of the reasons that people have time to surfing internet at work is they do not have enough challenges on their duties. Therefore, it proves the number of 46% worker seeking a new career while at current working place (Conner, 2012). Even there are a lot of numbers against the people who spend time on surfing at work, the employers should not consider totally banned private internet use at work. Mentally, employees happier and more productive when they have any stress reliever include surfing internet. However, the increases in the amount of time spend in worker’s personal internet usage also increases the number of employers monitor their employees. This leads to a conflict of privacy at work. Employees believe that monitoring is violating their privacy right which is often protected under the law. Nevertheless, employee’s activities while using employer’s network system are probably defenseless by law.

Each computer needs to be locked by owner’s passwords. Even we have the private network inside company, but it does not mean everyone can access to your computer. Each department has its own confidential information which the others should not know. Moreover, there is no guaranty for such a business spy in a company who is easy to access in any computer and take the information.

· Don’t monitor employees:

Employers often believe their employees are spending more time on surfing than working. A company could install a surveillance software and supervision their employees through theirs computer. More than that, employer has the right to track the information in their employees’ computer. However, there is the data prove that in fact, 99% of the working population will feel more comfortable without electronic surveillance (Heathfield, 2016). There are many alternatives way to monitor employees rather than kick in their computer and tracking during work time. Employers need to develop trustworthy relationship with their workers. It has a huge impact on employee’s attitude at work.

· Don’t isolate telecommunication developing:

There is one in every five workers around the world telecommute. The developing of technology and communications have enable individuals to work more effectively and efficiency rather than locking themselves in the office. Telecommunication allows people communicate through e-mail, online chat 24/7 from distance to distance. At least 65% of people worldwide believe it is more flexible to control their work duties based on telecommunication (Reaney, 2012).

· Do create the acceptable policy of internet use at work:

Make sure the employees understand clearly what they are allowed to access on internet while working. Some personal sites are acceptable such as personal email access, Facebook and Skype. However, the use of online shopping, watching YouTube or download irrelevant software needs to be banned.

· Do use e-mail as main communication:

The report from The Radicati Group predicts in 2020 almost half of the global population will be using e-mail (The Radicati Group, 2016). E-mail has been the leading form of business communication since it is more convenient and efficiency. Instead of waste papers for fax, or unprofessional like IM and chat, e-mail is the type of communication that can work for professional environment. In addition, some retail business start to apply e-commerce transaction by sending receipt through e-mail. Another example can tell from the bank industry that they go paperless by sending e-statement to customer instead of mail to their house.

· Do have good anti-virus software:

Protect company’s confidential information is the most necessary job at work. Since people easy to get communicate through internet, it simultaneous means people can get the other’s information easier. On the other hand, employees could accidentally download or access insecurity software online which causes virus to the company’s network system. It may lead to the shutdown of business communication for few hours or even a day. Worst thing is when the business does not have a connection; it lost the money of that time, lost potential customers as well as prospective collaboration with another business.

The impact of internet on business

During the past few years and go on, internet has been playing an important role in the developing of business industry. The word “E”, which means “internet”, has been used in various parts as e-business, e-commerce, e-marketing, and it improves the relationship between business and business as well as customer service in general. On September 2014, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) released the statistic of internet usage in Canada, which had increase rapidly compare to 2012. According to the report, 99% of Canadian population access to wireless service, and the revenue of telecommunication service had increased by 2% in 2013 (CRTC, 2014). This statistic emphasize the fact that people in general, as well as Canadian in particular, are using internet almost everywhere and every time. People can send the data from the corner of the world to the other side of the earth. The international business is improving since people can have a meeting on the internet, instead of flight few hours to meet. With more than 47% of the total revenues of telecommunication services in Canada is wireless services, CRTC’s report prove the power of internet in most of the business industry and society. Since the revolution of internet and technology, it increases the competitive among business, the company now can do faster research, advertising easier and study customer behavior. Therefore, business has developed from physical model to digital model.
