This bullshit is being rolled out this week and it’s going to be default!

This is dangerous and manipulative.

The main reasons for these “algorithms” that Instagram, Facebook and Twitter have rolled out are manipulating what people see. Content they want you to see gets pushed to the top, anything threatening to their interests gets quietly tossed to the bottom so you’ll be too tired or bored to see it.

Remember that time Facebook did the exact same thing, then conducted illegal psychosocial experiments on it’s users by tampering with their activity feeds to make depressing posts, happy posts, etc. show up more often to manipulate the emotional states of their users?

I’ve noticed a significant drop in notes/followers since this update happened. Original content gets pushed to the bottom of your dash, which is practically everything that I post!  If you use tumblr on your phone please check your app, and make sure you uncheck this! you might be missing out on a lot because of the algorithm.

You have to check it everytime there’s an updating of the Tumblr app: I turned it off, but then there was an update, I checked my preference and the little shit was turned on again (dunno if it’s only my dumb phone or Android bug or something, but check it out).

My numbers have dropped SIGNIFICANTLY since this happened. It’s not just small blogs affected by this. Seriously, turn this feature OFF. We STILL are being inundated with porn blogs and recommended blogs of stuff that we have blacklisted, but instead we get this feature which essentially is alienating literally EVERYONE on this platform. 

I already have a hard enough time getting my art seen, and the only way it was was being seen was to reblog it to my most popular blog… now my popular blog is barely getting 100 notes a day simply because my followers aren’t seeing it. I’m not an inactive blog AT ALL. I have consistent posts and high-interaction. Yet people are coming to me asking if I’m still posting… ALL BECAUSE OF THIS.

Nevermind that windmills are often most efficient off the coast. There they take up no land, impact no trees, don’t pollute the water, and are conveniently located where winds are often strongest anyway.

And solar panels can literally be built into roofs of buildings and in empty areas like deserts. The sun strikes the Earth with the same amount of energy in an hour that our civilization uses in a year.

But yeah, it would be impossible for us to ever have enough energy from clean sources.

Not writing related

This isn't writing related but I feel like it needs to be said. Kim Jong Un is not being irrational. He is trying to protect his people, just like any other leader. Trump is the one who is being irrational. Instead of threatening North Korea, he needs to talk peace not war. I mean what would you do if you were a leader of a country and some threatened your country? You would do anything and everything you could to protect your people. I am sick of seeing FELLOW Americans talking down on a country who are only trying to protect themselves. Let's try PEACE instead of war!

hey American followers – if you like public libraries I’ve got some bad news for you

the Trump administration’s proposed budget plan for FY18 includes cutting all funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) which is….. bad. I’m my library system, IMLS pays 11% of our total annual budget, which doesn’t sound like much, but in a lot of rural areas or states without as much state-level support for libraries, IMLS is responsible for the bulk of their operating costs and loss of this funding could mean the complete closure of central branches and loss of library resources for entire communities

I talk about this a lot on here, but libraries aren’t just free books – they’re a crucial service for under-served communities, they provide job search assistance to job seekers, crucial early learning and literary skills to kids, they provide information and access to people with no other way of getting them, they provide free internet and computer access, a free and safe place to be for homeless people, for teenagers after school, for families who can’t afford expensive daycare, and many of them provide free lunches for kids in the summer who aren’t getting lunch because they aren’t in school, and countless other things

there are so many communities out there who cannot afford to lose this funding and to lose the support that their libraries provide

go read about this. go call your senator. America’s pretty fucked up right now, but if we’ve done one thing right, it’s libraries, and we can’t afford to lose them
