Tim Johnson’s Mud Fund Announces Cyclocross Scholarship Recipients
Tim Johnson’s Mud Fund, a program that provides scholarships to deserving junior and U23 boys and girls in the sport of cyclocross, is proud to announce the early season 2013-14 scholarship recipients.
After sorting through 68 fantastic applications from boys and girls throughout the United States (and Canada), the review committee decided on the following…
These 12 kids will receive financial scholarships:
Melissa Seib, Bryant Point, Maine
Denzel Stephenson, Boulder, Colorado
Gage Hecht, Denver, Colorado
Ivy Taylor, Bend, Oregon
Sofia Gomez Villafane, Fort Lewis College, Colorado
Austin Vincent, Simsbury, Connecticut
Spencer Petrov, Mason, Ohio
Gavin Haley, Louisville, Kentucky
Ian McShane, Louisville, Kentucky
Josey Weik, Wrenshall, Minnesota
Emma Swartz, Madison, Wisconsin
Caleb Swartz, Madison, Wisconsin
"This year’s applicants showed a wide range of age and exposure to cyclocross. Picking deserving applicants from the list wasn't difficult, but I wish we could help everyone in some way," said Tim Johnson.
Fortunately the Mud Fund received continued bicycle industry support from Giro and was able to extend product support to the following 10 athletes:
Mackenzie Green, Mason, Ohio
George Schulz , Alexandria, Virginia
Mitchell Stevens, Bend, Oregon
Stephen Bassett, Knoxville, Tennessee
Conor O'Brien, University of Ottawa, Canada
Donovan Birky, Bend, Oregon
Cooper Willsey, Hinesburg, Vermont
Maxx Chance, Boulder, Colorado
David Lombardo, Crystal Lake, Illinois
Ciara MacDonald, Pullman, Washington
“Giro has been supportive of the Mud Fund since day one,” said Johnson. “Giro came up with product and a discount code specifically for the Mud Fund that we were able to distribute to some of this year’s applicants.”
In addition to awarding scholarships and Giro gear, all 68 applicants will receive a pair of Mud Fund-logo DeFeet socks and Mud Fund stickers.
Stay tuned for an announcement about a late season scholarship application process, aimed at supporting junior and U23 boys and girls for Cyclocross Nationals and Cyclocross Worlds.
