Soft flaxen hair splayed over your legs, the usual braids that held the alchemist’s bangs back had been undone a while ago by your hand. He hummed contently when you had started combing through his hair as he leaned against you sketching, and eventually moved his head into your lap for more attention. Both of you sat under the tree at Windrise, having finished collecting ingredients for the latest experiment. The small notebook he was sketching in was now propped awkwardly against his stomach as he continued the delicate pencil strokes, though you could no longer see what he was fixated on. Your eyes were lost in the distance, unfocused in your reverie. Your fingers continued your ministrations through his soft hair despite this, almost like an automatic response to his presence.
Albedo appreciated the peaceful quiet of the moment. Sketching was something he loved to share with you, but the current image appearing on the pages would leave him somewhat embarrassed if you saw. He stole a glance at you again, a small smile gracing his usually stoic features when he saw just how distant your mind was. This gave him time to study your features; he traced your jawline with his eyes, your nose and lips also falling under his watch. His own turquoise eyes got lost in yours momentarily, his natural curiosity almost driving him to ask about your thoughts. He decided against it though, not wanting to disturb his subject. The geo user reverted his gaze to his sketchbook before you could notice his staring and continued making precise marks against the paper.
After a few more minutes, he set his sketchbook down on his chest, the pages still open to mark his place. Your rhythmic motions through his hair were lulling him to sleep and he didn’t have the drive to fight it. He knew this was a safe enough spot to take a nap, not that you would let anything happen in the first place. The afternoon sun was also hitting below the branches, adding to the warmth he felt in the moment. His tranquil eyes closed, a quiet sigh akin to a hum escaping his lips. The small noise broke your trance and you looked down at him, noticing the alchemist falling asleep.
It was rare to see Albedo this serene and vulnerable. His mind was always going a million miles a minute and scrutinizing every detail of the living world. His art as well as you seemed to be the only things that could slow him down. His breathing evened out pretty quickly, the blonde having taken to slumber easily. It was quite possible that he had been working too much on his experiments again. You ran your hand over his cheek, almost swooning at the way he unconsciously leaned into your touch. You slowly reached over his form towards his sketchbook, wanting to see his progress on the presumed landscape. What you weren’t expecting, however, was the myriad of images depicting you in the margins. It seemed like the original landscape hadn’t been enough to keep his attention in one place.
You thumbed through a few more pages, taking note of the various hilichurls, flowers, and insects. Every few pages you would run across more sketches of yourself, each one bringing back memories with the amount of detail Albedo added around them. One page brought you back to your first date with the alchemist. When he had told you he was sketching the landscape while you ate the dinner you packed, he had really been sketching you and the cecilias surrounding you. When you had asked him to show you the drawing, he must have flipped to a different drawing of the same landscape.
The last rays of sunlight caught in the geo user’s hair, setting it aglow. It would be too late to head back to Mondstadt soon. You softly shook Albedo’s shoulder and brushed a bit of hair out of his face.
“Hey, it’s getting late,” you murmured, “we should head back home.” The alchemist’s eyes slowly opened and he flushed, remembering where he was. Your hand returned to his cheek and you offered a small smile as he sat up, seemingly annoyed at having to leave such a comfortable state. His blush worsened when he noticed his sketchbook in your hand and he tripped over his words before he even said anything.
“Did you... Look at- through- um...” He took a deep breath to try and calm his racing heart. Only you could ever have this effect on him.
“Yeah... I wanted to see what you had been sketching. I didn’t realize how often you were sketching when we’re together. All of these look great,” you complimented his work. His eyes averted from yours. “Sorry I didn’t ask,” you finished while leaning your head onto his shoulder.
“I suppose it’s fine... I was planning on showing you at some point anyways, though this timing wasn’t ideal. No matter. Shall we head back?” You hummed in agreement as he helped you up. You took his hand and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek, smiling as he led you back home.
